Massimo knew the server who had almost shot him must work for one of the Massachusetts dons. He probably snuck into the party and then changed clothes to match with the other servers. The Grasso's servants were dressed in dark green tuxedos—while the Grasso's didn't hide where they had their servants' uniforms made, they were expensive, which meant only another don could afford to buy them.
The fact Don Grasso and even his other servers didn't recognize the attempted hitman just solidified Massimo's suspicions. At least Tom was gracious enough to let Massimo and his subordinates use his basement to question the failed assassin.
It was obvious this was Tyler's doing. Massimo just didn't like the new precedent this set. After all, Tyler had switched up his patterns.
For one thing, this man didn't have a phone on him. Instead, he had a backpack that contained a bunch of useless junk to sell the fact it was actually his—keys, wallet, some receipts from coffee shops, and the like. But at the bottom of the bag was an outfit not dissimilar to the Ferraro's servants uniform.
It lacked the right details—only having one 'F' embroidered on the left chest pocket instead of on the back of the shirt as well—but it was the same shade of gray. At a distance, Massimo could see anyone easily mistaking the fake outfit for one of his people's.
But why? Did Tyler want to discredit Massimo against the other mafia dons in the area? Or was this a taunt for something bigger?
Massimo thought back to Joshua's warning—the feds were opening a case against him. Was Tyler planning to frame him for something big?
Normally, Massimo would keep these thoughts to himself. But since Don Grasso had helped him out—and Elena was always going on about the importance of allies—Massimo decided to be more open about what he had discovered.
Besides, if it got out that Massimo had hidden what looked like his servant's uniform from even Don Grasso, his name would be worth less than dirt.
So Massimo stood in the old man's office. He could still faintly hear the music from the ballroom a few rooms over. Massimo wondered if the party goers were still pretending to have a good time.
The old don kept his hand on his chin for a long moment. "That does complicate things," he said slowly. "I think I'll file a police report."
