The Mafia King's Unknown Doctor Wife novel Chapter 277

Massimo was on guard as Don Esposito waited patiently in one of Massimo's receiving rooms. He was pleased Luca had enough sense to put the traitorous don in the one without windows. Though the seats there were comfortable enough, there was nothing to do—which usually made people nervous.

That's why Massimo saved this room for meeting with people he despised.

Don Esposito took a deep breath. "Thank you for meeting with me. I didn't want to discuss this at the party—too many witnesses."

"Sure," Massimo said, failing to hide his annoyance. "So you can get on with it. Now."

"Right," Don Esposito agreed shakily. "I wanted to offer my services as thanks for saving my life."

The man looked at Elena gratefully—Massimo would give him that much. But that didn't mean Massimo believed the man's lies for a minute. In fact, the Don of All Dons barely managed to bite back a laugh.

"I'm sure you would," Massimo said accusingly. "But you should understand your word is worth less to me than the dirt beneath my shoes."

Elena looked up at Massimo sharply. "Massimo," she hissed, "must be so rude?"

"I don't extend kindness to people who are planning to fuck me over."

"Massimo!" Elena took a calming breath, clearly reigning in her growing temper. "Is it that hard to believe he's had a change of heart?"

Ordinarily, Massimo would've quickly replied "yes," but the look in Elena's eyes made him pause.

When he didn't say anything, Elena turned back to Don Esposito.

"You could've gone to the hospital," Elena said. "You should've—I basically just did a patch job, so you need to get looked at by someone soon if you don't want to risk any complications. This is a time sensitive matter."
