The Mafia King's Unknown Doctor Wife novel Chapter 278

Elena felt sick. She hated how calmly the don talked about all this—and she also hated how calmly Massimo listened to it.

The people they had captured hadn't even known much—they in fact swore that they never met with Tyler or his advisors at all! There was nothing incriminating they could say or prove! Yet, now, capturing one of them would lead to deadly consequences.

It was terrible. It was horrible.

Yet Elena wasn't surprised. This was how the mafia was. And it made her sick to her stomach.

Massimo wasn't impressed with Don Esposito's information, but it was nice to have some things confirmed outright. That didn't mean he had to like the traitor though.

"That's enough," Massimo said. "You may leave."

Massimo rose from his seat, using his full height to tower over the other don. "Remember," Massimo warned, "that working with a snake like Tyler will have serious consequences. One way or another."

Instead of flinching, the don just frowned. "I'm afraid I don't have much choice," Don Esposito stated. "I am at the mercy of his new woman advisor."

Massimo rolled his eyes. He didn't like dealing with weak people. "Then make better choices," Massimo growled.

"I can't," Don Esposito gritted out. "My family would be decimated. I cannot disobey Tyler—the other dons in my state have made that a death sentence, Don Massimo."

Don Esposito stood up, too. He fixed his suit jacket.

"I know the next time we meet, it will not be pleasant," Don Esposito confessed. "That's why I insisted I meet you tonight. I can only hope I can be of some use to your cause as a double agent before that final meeting happens."

The man nodded politely to Elena and then headed out of the room with the grim determination of a man marching to his death.

Massimo figured that was the last foolishness he would have to deal with tonight. But he was wrong.

"We need to go see that fake server from tonight," Elena said immediately.

Elena didn't wait for Massimo to reply. She simply stormed out of the room.

Elena knew it was childish, but she didn't care. She used one of her sick days to schedule a meeting between her half-brother and Sloane. She just wanted comfort from her family, was that so wrong?

Matteo was healing up well, though he was still a little slow to respond to anything. Also, he couldn't stay long without risking suspicion from his parents.

Importantly, Elena was able to confirm that Matteo was meeting Sloane for the first time. If there was any lingering doubt about Sloane maybe working for Tyler, it was gone in that moment.

They got along okay. Sloane was still jumpy, even around a no rank mafia man like Matteo. Elena figured the fact Matteo was visibly injured helped Sloane feel more at ease.

It was surprisingly normal. And Elena needed that more than anything.

Sloane walked Elena back to the Ferraro estate after Matteo left. She turned to Elena with a shy smile. "So," Sloane asked, "have you or Massimo thought about my husband's offer?"
