The Mafia King's Unknown Doctor Wife novel Chapter 281

"What?" Elena asked. "He said his name was Max..."

Elena thought back to her first in person meeting with her husband. When she really thought about it, she recalled how her husband had stumbled over his words when introducing himself. Elena had clearly heard the sound "Ma-" before her husband's voice had cracked—likely due to his nervous state.

It was Elena who had asked if his name was Max. But then her husband had instantly confirmed it.

Was he just so nervous that he couldn't correct her? Elena felt bad that she had been calling her husband by the wrong name for so long. She wished he was more comfortable to tell her what he had meant to say.

But they had grown closer recently. Maybe he just felt too awkward to fix the understanding. Elena resolved to bring up the subject next time they talked—or would it be better to text him about this...

Mr. Fabio stubbornly shook his head. "Forget I said anything," he said gruffly. "Like I said, I'm done meddling with young love—you and my grandson can figure out your relationship on your own."

Elena smiled as Mr. Fabio went back to organizing his belongings. It was clear that he truly wanted what was best for his grandson—her husband was lucky to have such a caring grandfather.

Between the two of them, they were able to finish up quickly.

"I hope you have a great trip," Elena said as she gathered her own things and prepared to leave. "Are you going with your grandson on a vacation?"

Mr. Fabio barked out a laugh. "No, it's more like I'm doing him a work favor," he explained. "Some old associates of mine are giving him trouble, so I'm helping out—and going to enjoy the sights while I'm there."

"Fingers crossed everything goes well then! Good luck!"

"Of course not," Massimo said. "It's also incredibly manipulative and disrespectful."

Elena didn't have time to respond. Massimo barely waited a moment before launching into a rant—he clearly had thought of this for a while.

"I know I allow bride prices and human trafficking when it comes to adults," Massimo continued in a huff, "but this feels especially manipulative—Sloane and Noah are insisting you're your own person, yet they're trying to manipulate you like you're a child. They act like I kidnapped and forced into this marriage, which completely dismisses the fact that you made a lot of sacrifices to not end up in that situation with Tyler. The only reason you're here is because you made your own choices and you honed your medical craft to such a high degree that no one can doubt you—I mean, have they even discussed with you if you would be able to still be a doctor under their protection?"

Massimo huffed once more for good measure. He took a sip of wine.

Elena was stunned. She knew Massimo valued her, but it was another thing entirely to hear him praise her directly. She wasn't aware he thought so highly of her.
