The Mafia King's Unknown Doctor Wife novel Chapter 322

Elena felt lost and confused. Two days ago, Luna was hugging Elena tightly and demanding she let her through a grand wedding for her. Now Luna was leading away Riley, pretending like she hadn't clearly heard Elena call out to her?

Beatrice rushed her husband and herself closer to Elena. "Do you mind if we sit with you?" she asked "Have you and your friends seen the scores—the Martin family has jumped up to the top fifty!"

"Really?" Lucilla asked. "But they don't have any special training. That's quite remarkable—why do you think that is, Elena?"

"And yes, please do sit," Jill added. "If there's room for a wolf cub, there's room for a fine couple like yourselves."

Elena knew what the women were doing. They were trying to sweep over the fact that Elena had just gotten snubbed by a friend. She'd seen this happen at plenty of parties in her youth—a teen girl would stand there, shocked and confused, before her friends descended upon her and tried to pretend everything was alright.

Elena appreciated the effort. She appreciated that these women were trying to help her save face and feel less embarrassed.

But that doesn't mean their efforts were working. Even as the conversation drifted to more pleasant things, she could only mutter a syllable or two. Elena felt simply awful that these two women she thought were her friends had ignored her.

The worst part was that Elena couldn't figure out why it had happened? Why would they suddenly change their opinion of her so drastically? What had Elena possibly have done to upset them?

Ruby, the little wolf in her arms, suddenly nuzzled closer to Elena. A horrible thought immediately came to mind.

Could Luna and Riley sense that Elena had taken a life?

It was a crazy thought but it made so much sense to Elena, who was already feeling immensely guilty about killing a wolf. After all, Elena was a doctor. She was supposed to save lives, so it was no wonder that she was still incredibly shaken up from taking a life less than a day ago.

And Luna and Riley had loved Elena because she was a doctor. Elena had saved Riley's life. Elena had stood up for Luna, like a doctor standing up for her patient's safety and health.

if they knew Elena had taken a life, they would surely think less of her. After all, Elena thought less of herself with how easily she had killed an innocent creature.

"The Ferraros are still in a solid lead," Beatrice said. "Elena, do you think Massimo will—"

"This party sucks. I miss you. I wish I was there with you right now."

Elena forced herself to take a deep breath. She was only getting more and more panicked as Max didn't respond.

She tried calling him. Still no response.

Elena, unfortunately, was on her own.

"Five minutes," she told Ruby. "Then we go back to the viewing tower and pretend everything's fine. I just... I just need five minutes first."

Massimo had taken—and hidden beneath his suit jacket—a staff radio today. Given the events of yesterday, he wanted a direct line to what the referees, event runners, guards, and everyone else he had hired were doing. He even got Luca to put an app on his phone that let him track their text messages.
