The Mafia King's Unknown Doctor Wife novel Chapter 335

Elena held back a sigh. Between Lucilla previously trying to flirt with Massimo and Massimo's generally unfavorable view of women, Elena could feel the atmosphere of the room already turning awkward. She did her best to save the situation.

Elena guided Lucilla to a seat on the opposite side as Massimo—and two chairs away from him. Elena sat across from her and quickly poured them both a cup of tea.

"Anyways, Lucilla, how is your little sister Priscella doing?" Elena asked. "I didn't see her at the winter party."

"She was stuck at school," Lucilla explained. "Though she was very disappointed she missed seeing you again. But she's trying for an accelerated graduation track, which means her workload is pretty difficult."

"I can only imagine," Elena replied. "Graduating from med school on its own is difficult."

"She's a tough one," Lucilla said with a smile. "She's stubborn, too—once she got it into her head, she's going to do it. But she has enough sense to manage it, I think."

Massimo wasn't trying to eavesdrop on the conversation. He was just trying to check some reports on his phone while he enjoyed his coffee—and forget the fact Lucilla, one of the countless women who flung themselves at him before he was married, was even here.

But as Elena smiled and laughed, it was impossible to ignore what was going on. And the more Massimo listened, the more he could tell Elena really enjoyed Lucilla's company. The two, surprisingly, were rapidly becoming good friends.

They probably would have more fun without his presence though.

"I should head out," Massimo muttered after a minute.

"I thought your meeting wasn't for another few hours?" Lucilla asked. "Please, don't leave your own home early on my account."

"Am I not allowed to go where I please?" Massimo shot back.

"For the master of the house, you certainly don't act like it," Lucilla replied. "Though I applaud your newly acquired social awareness and gentlemanly talents, I'm requesting you stay, my good lord."

Massimo's mouth twitched at that. Her words didn't seem as sharp as they used to be.

"I apologize, Elena," he said suddenly. "Lucilla is more like my cousin Luna than Aria."

Elena laughed at that. "Does that mean you like her more now?" she teased.

"It means she's more dangerous," he replied. Massimo was surprised to hear a deep laugh from Lucilla.

Elena didn't know how it happened that the three of them started playing cards and joking like friends, but she wasn't going to question it. Even as she learned that both Massimo and Lucilla were extremely competitive—and fine with cheating.
