The Mafia King's Unknown Doctor Wife novel Chapter 342

"She sounds like a lovely woman," Elena replied. "That sounds like a great way to spend your afternoons—just hanging out with someone you love and chatting away."

Massimo nodded. He picked a bouquet for Elena. He pulled one of the white daisies from the arrangement and tucked it behind her ear.

Elena chuckled. "How do I look?" she asked.

"Perfect," Massimo stated simply. "Like always."

Elena was having a magical night—and they hadn't even gone to the masquerade party yet! Granted, she didn't understand why he picked the places he did. The first two locations made sense—the night was, after all, about welcoming spring so it was perfectly reasonable to visit a few other local gardens.

She wasn't sure why they stopped by at a casino though. She hadn't even known the ABC Casino had a local branch here.

"They have a special drink menu tonight," Max explained. "I thought we could have a drink before dinner."

Elena quickly ordered a tequila sunrise—after all, she knew they served decent orange juice here.

She blushed at that memory. Though Massimo had managed to free her from her engagement to Tyler, Elena had quickly messed up by ordering a non-alcoholic drink at the bar, making the bartender think she wanted it spiked with other drugs. Elena was lucky Massimo had, apparently, been married to Aria at that time—otherwise things could've gone badly.

Elena liked to think she was well past that ignorant phase of her. She had grown much since then—both as a doctor and a member of the Ferraro's mafia family.

After they finished their drinks, Max insisted he wanted to get her a small gift to mark the occasion. To her great surprise, he stopped at a store across from St. Camillus Hospital, the hospital owned by the Ferraro family and the first hospital Elena ever worked at. She had completely forgotten about the small store that sold knickknacks across the street.

Max told her to pick out anything she wanted. There were plenty of small ships in a bottle, snow globes, and little trinkets. Elena ended up picking out a tiny wolf figurine—and a matching one for Max.

The food was good but forgettable—especially compared to her company. Elena was growing a little restless. She was excited to dance with Max again and hold him close and—

Well, they'd see where the night took them. But Elena wasn't afraid to fulfill her wifely promises, so long as her husband fulfilled his.

As they finished up their meal, Max got up from his chair. All of a sudden, he got down on one knee.

"Elena, I wanted to ask you something," he said.

There wasn't an engagement ring in his hand but rather a simple wedding band. But the moment he held it out to her, the surrounding tables full of customers started gasping and making a scene. Shouts of congratulations began to fill the air.

"But you've already asked me," Elena said helplessly, still smiling despite the chaos. "Stand up, Max. We're already married!"
