Chapter 36
Elena was relieved. Helping Massimo shop for his wife was way more pleasant than what she had feared Massimo was going to propose.
“Of course, Don Massimo,” Elena said. “I’d be delighted to.
“Luca has a few assignments for you to get through first,” Massimo reminded her. “Once you’re done with him, come back here and we’ll get started.
Elena’s day of work went fairly smoothly. Nothing too exciting could happen when she was just checking key Ferraro medical stores around the city and restocking them
Still, she couldn’t keep her thoughts away from her later assignment. She couldn’t be done with her work soon enough. Luca must have felt similarly because he dropped her back off at the estate quickly.
Massimo was already waiting for her outside. He stood in front of a discrete small black car.
“Are you ready to go?” he asked.
Elena nodded.
“Let’s go then.”
“Shouldn’t we wait for Luca to bring around your limo?”
Massimo just stared at her as he opened the box–shaped car’s door. “We don’t need Luca or the limo for this,” he explained. “Now get in.”
Elena discovered that Massimo was not a good driver. He took forever to merge and switch lanes and nearly side- swiped seven cars on their way. Elena was concerned he was going to cause a car accident, but they made it to their destination in one piece.
Safely out of the car, Elena could admit that it was kind of endearing that even the Don of All Dons was bad at something. Massimo had been so effortlessly perfect in front of her constantly–it was nice to know he was still just as human as she was.
Massimo had said they were going shopping, but Elena hadn’t realized he meant shopping at a luxury department store. The massive building they entered was Belle Vie, a woman’s department store that exclusively sold French imports. Immediately, they were ambushed by the women who worked there, asking how they could help and offering drinks and snacks.
Massimo, completely oblivious to these women’s good looks, waved them off. Elena wondered if the reason Massimo never looked at other women was because he had beautiful wife. She could certainly imagine that, with Massimo’s own good looks, he could attract a gorgeous woman easily.
Elena shook her head. She needed to focus.
Elena knew from her first meeting with Massimo that he was clueless when it came to giving gifts and what women wanted. He would need a lot of help from Elena today.
“Alright,” Elena said. “What does your wife like?”
“I’m not sure,” Massimo admitted shamelessly.
“What sort of clothes or jewelry does she wear?”
“I’m not sure.”
“Makeup?”

“I think she wears some?”
Elena pinched the bridge of her nose to stop from screaming. “How about you just describe her to me?” she suggested.
Massimo stayed quiet for a long time.
“Sometimes, she is very hesitant but kind and smart. She doesn’t let anything escape her notice or admiration- even if it’s something others think are unimportant. She can be very stubborn but thoughtful and sweet.”
“She sounds very-”
“Other times,” Massimo continued, “she’s blindingly bright and confident. She can be very romantic and forward but then change her mind at the last second. She will be incredibly honest and harsh, but in a way that doesn’t bother other people.”
