The Mafia King's Unknown Doctor Wife novel Chapter 35

Chapter 35

Elena wasn’t surprised Capo Daniel was involved. But she was surprised to see every news outlet say that he was drunk at the time of the crash.

Elena tried to remember her brief encounter with the man. Had he been under the influence? She couldn’t recall, but it seemed hard to believe he could operate a car so precisely wasted.

And the newspapers said Capo Daniel was wasted, implying that he might have gotten that way from a party held at the Morello estate. After all, the reporters reasoned, Daniel was a close cousin of Tyler Morello.

Elena’s eyes widened at the implications. So this was Massimo’s revenge.

Elena had to admit that her bossrevenge was wellthought out. In the mafia world, reputation was everything. And while Tyler was known as a playboy, he had made sure everyone still knew he was cunning and dangerous.

Now though people would say Tyler was sloppy. That he had leaned too much into the partying playboy side of things and couldn’t be trusted to handle his people. One article had even suggested Tyler might have lent a clearly drunk Daniel a carwho would trust the judgment of Don Morello after reading that?

Elena put down her phone and got ready for work with a smile. She really could count on Massimo after all.

Massimo checked his phone. Still no messages from his wife. The last text was from himself, informing Aria that he needed to work late and miss their dinner date.

Well, Aria had sent a thumbsup emoji afterwards, but Massimo didn’t count that.

Massimo frowned. What had happened to his wife’s adorable habit of sending short, trivial messages? Already, over a week had gone by with no updates on her morning coffee runs or flowers she had seen on her walks or odd advertisements she had come across on her commute.

He missed those texts. Why had his wife stopped sending them? Did she think Massimo hated them?

Massimo thought that was likely. Most people would probably find such messages boring.

Massimo debated sending such a text himselfto show his wife that he had appreciated such messages. But he couldn’t come up with anything to say that wouldn’t give away his mafia involvement. It was much easier to just reply to whatever his wife said without admitting to being a crime lord.

A knock at his office door caught his attention.

Come in,Massimo said, quickly putting away his phone.

Elena entered Massimo’s office.

Good morning, she greeted him. “Before we start work today, I wanted to thank you for spreading the word about what Don Morello did.

Massimo scoffed. I only did what I did to prove the Ferraros family strength. It hardly had to do with you personally.

Elena resisted the urge to roll her eyes. She was here to thank her boss. So she pulled out an article on her phone and held it up for Massimo to see.

If that was the case,Elena said, isn’t it odd that so many articles mention a helpful bystander? I mean, if this was just about the Ferraro’s might, you could have had the mention my name and that I was the Ferraro’s family doctor.

That had been the biggest surprise of all for Elena. Massimo had managed to both give her credit for her quick acting but kept her out of the spotlightsomething perfectly tailored for a quiet, humble woman like Elena who
