The Mafia King's Unknown Doctor Wife novel Chapter 383

"Remember," Luca whispered from the ear piece, "you're looking for where their database is stored. That should be downstairs and then straight down the hall. If it's not, then there are still a few other places we can look."

"Roger that," Massimo replied.

He didn't voice his skepticism—namely that if their schematics are out date, their entire mission has a much larger chance of failure. Massimo instead followed Luca's directions to where the precinct's server room is supposed to be. After all, Massimo is a man of action, not doubt.

His steadfastness was rewarded. No guards were down here yet. And even better, the door to the server room was exactly where it's supposed to be.

It took Massimo mere moments to crack open the simple lock.

"I'm in the server room," Massimo reported. "Now walk me through this again—where do you want your flashdrive installed?"

"Send me a picture of the room."

Massimo did as instructed. Luca quickly pointed out where the flashdrive goes, and Massimo, just as quickly, got the job done.

"Do you have access to their database yet?" Massimo asked, impatient.

"Not yet, sir," Luca replied, voice clipped. Massimo could hear the faint but rapid tapping of Luca's keyboard. "This is a discrete way to enter their system but not an instant one."

"I'm aware. But we are on a schedule here, Luca."

His advisor didn't respond for nearly minute. Massimo started to wonder if the ear piece was malfunctioning.

"Luca, report—"

"Got it!" Luca replied instantly. "Sorry, just give me a second to sort through these things..."

Luca hummed to himself. Massimo checked his watch. He'd need to be out of this room in the next five minutes if he wanted to avoid the night shift.

"Alright, I found it," Luca reported. "They do have some evidence on your case—namely what was collected from the apartment complex you and Elena visited when Tyler's men attacked. I can get rid of the digital copies, but the physical stuff looks like it's stored in section 2 of the record room in under case 'Ferraro 5xt.'"

"Good," Massimo replied. Massimo ran through his mental map of the building's schematics. "I'll track that down while you get rid of any digital traces of their case."

"Just be careful," Luca warned. "I'll have my attention split between keeping an eye on you and getting rid of all the dirt they have catalogued. And your path to the record room is full of security measures."

"I know," Massimo replied, already heading out of the server room. "But no risk, no reward."

Meanwhile, in California, Elena suddenly woke up. It was late, nearly midnight, but Elena had woken up with a startled gasp. She shot up in bed, overcome by the feeling that something was terribly wrong.

She did her best to slow down her breathing and calm down.

Elena couldn't determine what exactly was wrong or why she had woken up. Maybe it was just nerves from running away? She had been rather startled by Lucilla's sudden and unexpected text message...

Elena sighed deeply. She knew, objectively, that she had nothing to worry about. Things were going great.

Her mother was excited to see her again, and Noah was also excited, too. Elena felt like she finally had a good relationship with both her parents here—they treated her like their real daughter. It was exactly the perfect little family Elena had dreamed about when she was younger.

Sloane had also put in a good word for Elena at her hospital, and it had paid off. Elena was going to be working as a doctor there! Her first shift was in a few days.

Massimo gritted his teeth. He was suddenly very grateful that Fabio had made him practice lock-picking so often when he was twelve that his fingertips bled.

It was slower than Massimo would've liked, but he managed to unlock every one in five minutes. But the second door didn't have physical locks on it—it had digital ones.

"It's got a fingerprint lock and ID scanner," Massimo reported back to Luca.

"Give me ten minutes," Luca replied.

"You have five."

It took eight minutes before both the fingerprint lock and ID scanner to light up green.

"You're good to go," Luca informed him.

Finally, Massimo was let into a big room—it was more fit for a warehouse than an office building. There was a little booth that led into a giant fenced cage. Inside that cage were hundreds of steel shelves, and on each shelf was at least fifty labeled case boxes or more.

But despite all that, Massimo quickly spotted a box labeled 'Ferraro 5xt'—it was near the entrance to the cage. Yet Massimo didn't immediately smile at his luck. At the same moment he spotted the box, he noticed there was a security guard sitting in the little booth. He quickly ducked around the corner before she could see him.

Massimo couldn't risk getting spotted right now. There were good odds the security guard would recognize him as the Mafia King, and then Massimo would be in grave danger. Yet he had come all this way—he wasn't returning home empty handed.

"Everything okay?" Luca asked. "The night shift's route should be headed your way soon for another perimeter sweep. You need to head into the record room now."

"There's just one problem," Massimo hissed, careful to keep his voice low. "There's a cop guarding the room. So do you have any bright ideas—otherwise, things are about to get very messy."
