"No," Noah said, rising quickly and grabbing his jacket. "Even if I would stoop to such unprofessional behavior, it's Elena's first day of work tomorrow—which she told you already. So if you'll excuse me, my family and I will be leaving now—good night."
There was some grumbling but as Noah helped Sloane from her seat, all chatter died down. Protesting at this point would make the Winslows seem too desperate maybe? Regardless, Elena was impressed by how Noah had forced the issue and got her and her mother out of that of horrible restaurant.
Elena would've loved to actually talk to Noah more, but she did have work the next morning. So instead, she simply exchanged good nights with her parents and headed to bed.
The next morning, Sloane and Elena entered the Golden Gates Hospital together.
"I'm rarely at this main building," Sloane explained as she helped Elena get her credentials sorted out. "Like I told you, I'm mostly doing house calls for the elite and rich in California."
"So Hollywood stars and old money types?" Elena joked.
"Pretty much," Sloane confirmed. "But I wanted to help show you around. So now that we've got the last of the paperwork sorted, let's get you your badge and I'll give you the grand tour!"
"Sounds great," Elena replied.
Elena was ecstatic. It was nice being shown around by her mother—it reminded her a little of all those "take your kids to work days" Elena had missed out on as a child.
Besides, the hospital itself was gorgeous. They had plenty of state-of-the-art equipment along with well documented procedures and forms. It wasn't exactly as nice as Elena's own renovations to St. Camillus Hospital, but the place was much better than she had expected.
Elena wondered if she'd ever be able to suggest and implement those changes later. Would Golden Gates be able to afford them? Would they trust her expertise as easily as Massimo had?
The staff was certainly much nicer than any Elena had encountered before. The head doctor had smiled at her and firmly shook her hand, enthusiastically stating that he was happy to have new blood on board.
