Chapter 86
“I’m so sorry,” Aria continued. “I panicked and did something so terribly stupid, and now you’re stuck here, too.”
Elena took in Aria’s story. While Aria may have gotten them both abducted, Elena couldn’t blame Aria for it. Her roommate was a civilian, after all.
Aria didn’t know how dangerous the mafia world could get. She had no idea how the criminal underground operated. While Elena could keep calm under pressure, she couldn’t blame a normal person like Aria for freaking out and getting scared.
“It’s not your fault,” Elena insisted. “It’s the fault of the man who threatened you.‘
Aria sniffled. “You’re too nice, Elena. We’re both gonna die here!”
“We won’t. Massimo will realize what happened and come save us.”
At that moment, Elena heard static above her head. She looked up to see another set of speakers in the ceiling- she must have missed that in her panic upon walking up.
“Massimo? Coming to rescue you?” A voice echoed from the speakers–a voice Elena immediately recognized.
“Tyler Morello,” Elena said harshly. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“Correcting an error,” Tyler’s voice echoed. “Massimo can only save one of you. Don’t look so surprised, Elena–I never lose a game.”
Elena’s blood ran cold. The way Tyler was talking meant he had cameras and microphones hidden around the apartment. Not only was she trapped here, but Tyler could see and hear her every movement.
“Tyler Morello?” Aria repeated. “You mean the man who almost killed Massimo?”
Elena turned back to Aria. She could tell the civilian was getting really scared. “It’s okay, Aria-”
There must have been a hidden groove inside the hole because a steel plate thudded down. It blocked Aria from Elena’s sight.
“Aria?” Elena called.
But she heard no answer. Elena knew her friend was panicking, but with the steel plate in place, Elena could hear no noise her friend made.
From the speakers above, Tyler laughed. “You talk to your friend, but only on my terms. And right now, I think you both need a little alone time.”
With that, the speakers made no more noise.
Left seemingly all by herself, Elena could only think of how horrifying her current situation was. The little crack in the wall wasn’t a mistake–it was intentional. Tyler wanted Elena to see her friend–only for her to get yanked away.
Tyler had spent a lot of time making this prison. He thought of how exactly he wanted to trap Elena here. How to cut off her means of escape, but also how to provoke the most fear into her heart.
And, all alone, Elena could finally admit that Tyler had done an excellent job. Elena Vitale was horrified and frightened.
Meanwhile, Massimo returned to the dock and managed to convince the cruise ship’s captain to let him back on

board. Massimo found neither Elena nor Aria anywhere on the large boat.
Massimo quickly pivoted and started asking the cruise workers whether they had seen any women on board later than they should have been. It was annoying. No one seemed to have a clear memory, and Massimo quickly grew frustrated talking with them.
Which, of course, didn’t help the situation. Massimo knew he could scare civilians without trying–letting some of his real anger show had them fearing for their safety.
This night really couldn’t get any worse.
“No–wait! I remember! I remember!” one man cried out.
Massimo raised an eyebrow. “You do?”
“Yes! I, uh, well they might not be the women you’re looking for, and I’m sorry if that’s the case-
“Get on with it,” Massimo growled.
