Chapter 87
Elena did her best to keep her wits about her. She had to learn a lot about the human brain during her studies to become a doctor. She knew if she didn’t try to keep her spirits and good attitude up, she’d let Tyler win whatever sick game he was playing.
Elena knew the first thing to demoralizing someone was to take away control and their sense of time. She could do nothing about her lack of agency in her admittedly nice prison, but Elena could try to keep track of days.
Or she could try to. But with no natural lights or even a clock, it was difficult work.
By her estimates, Elena thought a few days had passed. During that time, she had learned that Tyler was even more thorough than Elena had expected.
He would routinely cut off the apartment’s water after Elena had gathered filled enough cups to keep herself from dehydrating. The faucets would only work again after Tyler had verified through his hidden cameras–which Elena still hadn’t found–that all the cups were completely empty.
Each day, a new cupboard would be unlocked. It would contain just enough food to keep Elena from starving. There was no way to keep up her energy or strength.
Between that, the plain environment, and the lack of things to do, Elena knew Tyler was trying to break her spirit. She was stubbornly holding out, but Elena knew even she had her limits.
Worst of all, the window between Elena and Aria’s rooms hadn’t been opened at all. Elena had no idea how Aria was doing. But considering she was just a civilian, Elena imagined her friend wasn’t doing well at all.
Tyler was trying to wait out Elena’s resistance. And he had all the time in the world. While Elena hated the man, she had to admit his plan had merit to it.
Day by day, Elena could feel her willpower dwindling.
Elena awoke in the living room. She must’ve passed out from hunger at some point. For a long moment, she thought she might be hallucinating the door knob rotating.
But then the door opened and in stepped Tyler.
Elena wanted to bolt–to escape from her imprisonment. But her body had no energy. It was frustrating.
Which, judging by the smirk on Tyler’s face, was exactly the type of reaction he was trying to provoke from Elena.
“Hello, my dear little lamb,” he greeted. He looked almost dreamlike in his white suit that nearly blended into the apartment’s walls.
Elena summoned all her strength to glare at her captor. “What do you want, Tyler?”
Tyler clicked his tongue. “No titles today? How bold of you.”
Leaving the door wide open, Tyler walked deeper into the apartment. He sat down on the cream couch next to Elena. Every nerve in Elena’s body tensed.
“I have a deal, dearest. I think i will let both you and your little friend live here, if you agree to marry me.”
“You already know I’m married,” Elena replied warily.
“Yes, to a fool who doesn’t know your true value, I suspect.” Tyler grabbed Elena’s left hand suddenly, ” Otherwise, he’s never let you go anywhere without your ring on.”

Elena pulled her hand back, but Tyler easily overpower her. He pulled her upper body to him. Elena’s torso nearly tumbled straight into Tyler’s chest.
“I can take care of that little piece of paper,” Tyler said. His hands squeezed Elena’s waist. “And I don’t care if you’ve already been deflowered and your purity is ruined.”
