"What the..." Nora's hand jerked in shock, spilling her latte across the table. She scrambled for napkins, wiping up the mess with wide eyes. "Didn't his mother say he was away on a business trip? What is he doing..."
"Take it easy, Rainey," Joaquin said, his voice dripping with gentle concern as he helped her out of the back seat. "If you're really not feeling well, I can talk to Julian Chandler and have him pause production. The shoot is going to take months anyway, and your role isn't that demanding."
"It's fine..." Rainey's voice was raspy, sounding far weaker than she had yesterday. "Audrey and I just have a few scenes left. I want to power through so she can wrap up her work here and get back to her own life."
At the mention of Audrey, a flicker of darkness crossed Joaquin's eyes. He let out a dismissive scoff. "She's a housewife. What 'life' does she have to get back to?"
He kept a protective arm around Rainey, his lips curling into a cold smirk. "Your only priority right now is your health. Stop worrying about other people."
From start to finish, he didn't even glance toward the corner where Audrey was sitting with Nora.
Audrey simply sat there in silence, watching her legal husband escort another woman past her and onto the set. To him, she was just one of those 'other people' Rainey shouldn't waste her energy on.
"Audrey..." Nora murmured after tossing the soaked napkins. Seeing Audrey staring at their retreating backs, she lowered her voice in concern. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," Audrey snapped out of it, flashing a reassuring smile. She took a bite of her pastry and pulled out her phone to check the news, desperate for a distraction.
A push notification popped up.
[BREAKING: Rainey Sinclair Collapses! Joaquin Judd Flies Across the Globe Overnight!]
Audrey frowned and tapped the link.
The first photo showed Joaquin rushing through an airport. He wore a dark gray trench coat, the hem billowing around his legs. His chiseled face was stoic, but the raw anxiety in his eyes was unmistakable.
