The Moment I Realized I Can't Lose You novel Chapter 15

Chapter 15

She had gone through the trouble of picking him up from the hotel, and the entire ride, he had been constantly shrugging her off and pushing her away. And now that they were in front of Audrey, he turns into this? What did he think she was?

Taking a step forward, she tried to peel Joaquin off Audrey. “Joaquin, I’m right here. It’s me, Rainey.”

But the man acted as if he couldn’t even hear her, blindly swatting her hand away as he dumped all his weight onto Audrey. “Honey…”

Shaken off like a nuisance, Rainey’s expression turned incredibly ugly. Still, she managed a forced smile and looked at Audrey. “He’s just too drunk. He’s confusing you with me…”

“I know.” Audrey smiled faintly, a wave of bitterness washing over her. Maybe over the past year, every time he came home drunk, he was just mistaking her for the woman he actually loved.

But right now, the priority was getting him sober.

Taking a deep breath, Audrey patted his head the same way she always did. “Go lie down on the sofa.”

“Okay.”

Leaning entirely on Audrey, Joaquin stumbled toward the living room. Almost all of his weight was pressing down on her slender frame. Yet Audrey moved with practiced ease, steadying his steps until they reached the couch.

Walking on the other side, Rainey watched the seamless synchronicity between the two, her eyes practically dripping poison.

Audrey was silent for a moment before she smiled. “Alright.”

She handed the glass to Rainey and turned sharply toward the stairs.

When she reached the second-floor landing, she stopped, as if suddenly remembering something, and turned back around.

Rainey instantly shifted, ensuring she was still blocking the man behind her. “Did you need something?”

“In the second drawer of the medicine cabinet by the door, there are the hangover pills he usually takes.” Audrey frowned. “It won’t make him completely sober, but they help. And if you two really can’t control yourselves, go get a hotel room. Not here.”
