The Moment I Realized I Can't Lose You novel Chapter 28

Dead silence slammed into the hallway. Every single person—save for Audrey and Joaquin—stood completely paralyzed with shock.

Zeller thought he was having auditory hallucinations. "Mr. Judd, surely you must be mistaken? This lady is undeniably beautiful, but she's exceptionally violent and vulgar... She couldn't possibly be your wife..."

While he had never formally met Mrs. Judd, he had hosted plenty of people in Joaquin's social circle over the past year. The gossip was always the same: Joaquin's wife was a manipulative, gold-digging country bumpkin who masked her greed behind a fake, submissive persona. The lethal, unapologetic woman currently being restrained looked nothing like the rumors.

"Mistaken?" Joaquin's eyes turned murderously dark. "Do you often mistake your own wife?"

He slowly shifted his gaze to the security guards holding her. "Are you going to let her go, or do I need to make you?"

Cold sweat broke out across Zeller's forehead. He frantically waved his hands, signaling the guards to release them immediately.

Finally free, Audrey let out a long breath. She rubbed her wrists and immediately turned to Nora. "Are you okay?"

Nora's eyes were practically swollen shut from crying. Hearing the gentle concern in Audrey's voice, she broke down again, shaking her head. "I'm fine."

"Then why are you crying?" Audrey chuckled softly, reaching out to wipe the tears from the girl's face. "See? Everything is fine now."

Nora sniffled and nodded. Her gaze inadvertently drifted past Audrey and landed on the towering man behind her. "Thank goodness... Thank goodness your husband showed up..."

The reminder snapped Audrey back to reality. She turned to Joaquin. "Thanks." She delivered the word with the casual indifference of thanking a stranger holding the door.

Joaquin's jaw ticked. "Just 'thanks'?"
