Leona's declaration sent a shockwave through the room, followed immediately by a fierce buzz of gossip.
"Wait, if what the agent said is true, does that mean Rainey is the actual Mrs. Judd?"
"I mean, in those elite circles, childhood engagements usually lead straight to marriage!"
"Then why wouldn't she just show up as his wife?"
"Are you stupid? If she announced she was the boss's wife, people would say she bought her way into the cast. Calling herself a 'friend' is way more discreet!"
"Calling the legal wife a homewrecker... Has this writer spent too much time making up drama that she's lost her mind?"
Listening to the whispers, Joaquin frowned, his gaze drifting back to Audrey in the audience.
This time, she wasn't chatting with Miles. She was staring at Nora, her brow furrowed in genuine concern. Yet, not once had her eyes flicked toward him or Rainey on the stage. It was as if he was nothing more than empty air, and only the screenwriter mattered to her.
His jaw clenched. Half a month apart, and this was how she treated him?
"That agent is clever." Miles murmured, leaning closer to Audrey. "She explicitly mentioned they grew up together and were engaged, but she conveniently left out whether or not they ever actually got married."
Audrey nodded. "Exactly."
People loved to fill in the blanks. With Leona phrasing it that way, everyone naturally assumed Rainey was the legitimate wife.
"Not going to set the record straight?" Miles raised an eyebrow at her. "Someone's trying to steal your crown as Mrs. Judd."
Audrey shrugged, utterly unbothered. "There's no point. The position was always meant for her, and I made peace with giving it back. Why bother explaining?"
A flicker of approval passed through Miles's eyes. He smirked. "So you're just going to sit back and watch?"
