"Joaquin, you made it!" Rainey practically glided over to him, slipping her arm through his and leaning in with practiced sweetness right in front of the flashing cameras. "I asked Chase this morning, and he said you probably wouldn't come, so I drove myself. If I had known, I would have just hitched a ride with you!"
The moment she latched onto him, Joaquin's eyes swept the room, immediately landing on Audrey. She was sitting among the crew, sipping juice and chatting animatedly with Miles, completely indifferent to his grand entrance. A sharp pang of irritation twisted in his chest.
Julian had no idea who the mystery backer was until this very second, and he was ecstatic. To have the billionaire CEO of the Judd Group personally attend his kickoff was a badge of honor he would be bragging about for years!
He hurried over, practically glowing with sycophancy. "Mr. Judd, your timing is impeccable. We're just about to begin. With you backing Drowning in the Deep Blue, it's guaranteed to be a blockbuster!"
Joaquin offered a polite, clipped smile and allowed Julian to lead him onto the stage.
The ceremony was a drawn-out, tedious affair. Julian had been terrified the mogul would lose patience, but surprisingly, Joaquin sat through the entire thing.
Rainey remained plastered to his side the entire time, acting like his personal accessory. Even during the ceremonial cake-cutting, she hovered affectionately. Every time Joaquin cut a slice, she would tenderly hand it out to the people nearby, playing the perfect hostess.
Finally, the crew couldn't hold back their whispers.
"What's the deal with the actress playing the 'Sickly Beauty' and Mr. Judd?"
"Are you blind? The screenwriter literally tailor-made the role for her. What do you think their relationship is?"
"Wait, didn't Mr. Judd get married a year ago? I think her last name was Sinclair too... Could it be her?"
