The Moment I Realized I Can't Lose You novel Chapter 71

Joaquin shot Audrey a cool glance, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "You know exactly how much it upsets Rainey when you say things like that, yet you purposely provoked her. Did you think that if I went to comfort her, I'd let you off the hook tonight?"

"Yes." Audrey admitted it without a hint of hesitation. "After all, in your heart, Ms. Sinclair is much more important, isn't she?"

He lowered his eyes, typing a quick message on his phone before letting out a soft chuckle. "Don't forget, you're a Sinclair, too."

Stowing the phone away, he added, "I've already had Chase head over to the Sinclair Villa to pick up Mr. and Mrs. Sinclair. They'll take care of her at the hospital. Tonight, I need to focus on you."

Audrey pressed her lips into a thin line and turned to stare out the car window. Though she maintained a calm facade, panic was setting in.

With him sitting right beside her, calling Miles was out of the question. She could only stealthily shoot off two text messages. It was late; she had no idea if Miles would even see them, or if he'd be able to help.

...

Soon, the car pulled up to St. Jude's Medical Center.

Joaquin opened the door and offered his hand. "Let's go."

Ignoring the gesture, Audrey slipped out of the car and walked past him.

He stepped forward and grabbed her hand anyway. "What's the matter? Just a few minutes ago on the phone, you were eagerly emphasizing that we're husband and wife. Now you won't even hold my hand?"
