Audrey didn't have the energy to trade insults with a psychopath. Snapping her script shut, she stood up with icy detachment. "If we're not rehearsing, then let's get into positions."
Rainey raised an eyebrow, a wicked gleam in her eyes. "I'm a professional. I won't go easy on you just because we're family. And just a heads up for you, the studio is littered with hidden cameras capturing behind-the-scenes footage today."
Audrey countered coolly, "Since you love playing the fragile victim, I suggest you stay in character. It'd be a shame if you let your true colors show on tape."
Turning on her heel, she walked onto the set.
Left sitting on the sofa, Rainey glared at her retreating back, pure venom burning in her eyes.
Whether the threat of the hidden cameras had actually spooked her or not, Rainey was shockingly well-behaved all morning. Almost every take was flawless. The only two times they had to reset were because Audrey, being inexperienced, missed her marks and blocked the lens.
Even during the scenes where Rainey's character was supposed to physically assault Audrey's, she professionally utilized camera angles to fake the slaps without making actual contact.
"Do you think we misjudged her?" During the lunch break, Nora dropped a piece of chicken into Audrey's container. "She's actually being a total professional. She hasn't tried anything."
Audrey stared down at her food, a knot of unease tightening in her stomach.
Rainey had been out for blood at the ceremony yesterday, and she'd been practically foaming at the mouth in the makeup room this morning. Why the sudden saint-like behavior on camera?
"Gideon says we can't let our guard down." Seeing her silence, Nora lowered her voice. "He wants to push through and film all the heavy abuse scenes today while she's still playing nice. Once those are in the can, even if she flips a switch, she won't have the script as an excuse to hurt you."
Audrey's grip on her silverware tightened for a fraction of a second. "Okay. Let's stick to the assistant director's plan."
She still felt that things weren't as simple as they seemed.
...
Filming resumed shortly after lunch.
