Listening to the vicious whispers, Audrey's eyes narrowed. So, the Sinclair family was hosting a grand homecoming party tonight to officially announce Rainey's return. Arthur knew exactly how battered she was from the shoot and deliberately lured her here with the photo to make sure she wouldn't have time to clean up or change. Leona splashing her with mud had been the final touch of their brilliant plan.
Audrey let out a soft laugh. They thought she still cared about her reputation in high society. They thought they were humiliating her. But they didn't realize that she had only ever cared about her image because she cared about Joaquin. She had always been poised, elegant, and forgiving, desperately trying to protect his reputation as his perfect wife.
But now...
She glanced at the butler. "Where are my aunt and uncle?"
The butler gestured toward the staircase.
Arthur and Beatrice were slowly descending the grand stairs arm in arm, dressed immaculately, playing the part of the perfect, loving hosts.
Seeing Audrey, Beatrice covered her mouth in exaggerated shock. "Audrey? Didn't your uncle tell you on the phone that tonight is your cousin's homecoming party? The entire social elite is here!"
She looked Audrey up and down, her voice dripping with fake disappointment. "Why on earth would you show up dressed like this? Do you think just because you're Mrs. Judd, you can disrespect your sister and our family?"
Arthur immediately adopted a stern, furious expression. "If you didn't want to come, you could have just stayed home! Showing up looking like this? You're an absolute embarrassment!"
His words acted like a green light for the guests, and the mocking laughter grew even louder.
"She used to try so hard to act classy to keep up appearances for the Judd family. Guess she finally gave up."
"She's not stupid. She knows Rainey is back, which means the fake Mrs. Judd is about to get kicked to the curb."
