The sticky red wine soaked through Rainey's perfectly styled hair and drenched her pale designer dress. Her carefully crafted image of fragile beauty shattered in an instant. Through her ruined makeup, her face twisted in shock and sheer rage.
Taking in the scene, Joaquin barked, "Audrey! Are you crazy?"
He immediately stepped in, pulling the dripping, humiliated Rainey behind him. "She was apologizing to you! Is this how you treat someone who's sick?"
"Apologizing?" Audrey let out a cold laugh. "Begging on her knees in front of everyone, twisting the truth, and trying to manipulate me into forgiving her—is that an apology or a provocation?"
Moving with perfect elegance, she set her empty wine glass back onto a passing tray, her tone completely flat. "This afternoon on set, Rainey threw a cup of scalding hot coffee directly at my face I'm simply returning the favor with a glass of chilled wine."
She met Joaquin's furious, blazing eyes, the corners of her lips turning up in an icy smile. "We're even."
"Even?!" Joaquin scoffed. "Audrey, you are becoming completely unreasonable. I've told you a hundred times, that cup of coffee was just acting! Are we on set right now? You want to get 'even' here? You—"
"Audrey!"
Before Joaquin could finish, a piercing shriek cut through the room. Arthur and Beatrice had finally snapped out of their shock. Like two enraged beasts, they charged forward, their faces contorted with fury.
Seeing her precious daughter in such a state, Beatrice jabbed a finger right at Audrey's nose. "You uncultured brat! Have you lost your damn mind? How dare you do this to Rainey in public! She is the star of tonight! Look what you've done to her!"
