The packs outcast Luna (Kaia and Theo) novel Chapter 35

Chapter 35

Chapter 35

I walked to the pack clinic with the news still ringing in my head.

I couldn’t get Maliya’s voice out.

Elara has been chosen as Luna. Cara pushed for it.

The decision is already made.

I feel hollow. Heavy.

Too full of emotions I don’t want to feel.

So I do the only thing that makes sense – I put distance between myself and everything.

The training yard.

The pack house.

Him.

Trying to forget everything that’s happening.

I walk fast, hoping the movement will shake off the jealousy burning under my skin.

But halfway down the path that leads to the clinic, I hear footsteps behind me.

Firm. Familiar.

Theo called out. “Kaia.”

My heart stutters.

I force my legs to keep moving.

“Kaia, stop.”

“I can’t,” I say, not looking back. “Not right now.”

He appears in front of me in one smooth movement, blocking my path. His wolf must’ve helped; he’s too fast otherwise,

His eyes searched my face, I could see his concerned mixing with frustration.

“What’s going on with you?” he asks. “Why don’t you just talk to me. Tell me what’s going on”

I look away. “I don’t want any more trouble, Theo.”

His brows knit. “Trouble? What trouble are you talking about?”

“Yes.” I clutch my arms around myself. “You already have the council on your neck. Your father. Cara. Your ex from the past just showed up. And now they’ve picked a Luna-”

His jaw tightens. “Who told you that?”

“It doesn’t matter who did,” I retorted.

I am not snitching on Maliya. Ever

Theo takes a step forward. “Kaia-”

“Don’t.” My voice cracks, but I stand firm. “Please don’t make this harder than it already is. I don’t want to stir anything. I don’t want people looking at me like I’m… causing trouble for you.”

“You’re not,” he says instantly.

“But everyone else thinks I am.” I force a small, painful laugh. “And honestly? I’m tired. I really am.”

Theo reached out like he wants to touch me but hesitates, his fingers curling back.

“You’ve been avoiding me,” he says quietly.

“I’m trying to protect myself,” I whisper. “And you.”

His chest rises sharply. “Kaia-”

I shake my head.

“You should go,” I say. “Go deal with… everything else. Elara. The Luna thing. Your family. Your pack.”

I feel a sharp pang in my throat.

“And you?” he asks, voice low.

I force the words out. “I’ll keep my distance. For everyone’s sake.”

Theo looks like the words hit him harder than a physical blow.

“Kaia… don’t do that,” he murmurs. “Don’t shut me out.”

But I step back, giving him space he doesn’t want and space I desperately need.

“I’m sorry,” I whisper. “I just… can’t right now.”

And before he can say anything else, I turn and walk away.

For once…I hope he doesn’t follow me.

After work hours at the clinic, I decided to go for a run.

I walked into the forest, the damp earth streaking my legs as I walked.

It was eerily quiet but I didn’t mind.

:

I needed peace and quiet. To let Tamara out for the first time.

I pushed my legs harder, heart pounding not just from the walk, but from the knot in my chest that wouldn’t

loosen.

My heart tightened with something I can’t name.

Still, I needed to let my wolf stretch, to feel… alive. To feel free.

Branches scratched my arms, leaves slapped my cheeks. My breaths came in ragged bursts.Tamara stirred in my head.

I rounded a bend and froze. Someone was there.

Theo.

He leaned casually against a tree, arms crossed, watching me like he had all the time in the world.

My pulse jumped. Why here? Why now?

I tried to slow down, tried to act like I hadn’t just been running from… everything.

“Fancy meeting you here,” I said, forcing a lightness I didn’t feel.

He straightened, pushing off the tree.

“I could say the same. Didn’t expect to see you out here.” His eyes softened slightly.

Concern, maybe curiosity, maybe something more dangerous flashed in them.

I clenched my fists. “I could say I didn’t expect to see you, either. But apparently, surprises are a thing today.”

He took a careful step closer. “Kaia… I—”

I held up a hand. “Don’t. I’m… I’m fine. Just… running.”

His gaze softened, but he didn’t step back.

“You’ve been avoiding me. And now you run into me in the middle of the forest. You’re not fine.”

“I am,” I said, though my voice cracked a little. “I just… need space. That’s all.”

He sighed, stepping closer. “Kaia… I know I don’t have the right to push. But I need to know why you are doing this? Why are you shutting me out?”

I hesitated. My wolf howled inside; raw, impatient, restless. But the human part, the part that had learned to survive betrayal, stepped in.

“I’m… keeping myself out of trouble,” I admitted. “You’ve got enough on your plate. And I… I don’t want to

Theo’s jaw tightened. “Kaia, I don’t care about the Council, or Elara, or Cara right now. I care about you. Don’t act like your distance is protecting me. You’re not.”

The words hit me harder than I expected.

My wolf surged, wanting to leap into his presence, but I held back, trembling.

“I… I can’t,” I whispered, finally. “Not yet. Maybe… maybe later.”

He stepped closer, close enough that I could feel his warm breath fanning my face.

My face was so close to his chest,I could see his breath rising and falling.

“Later?” he echoed. “Kaia… when? You can’t keep running forever.”

I swallowed. “I’m not running… I’m just trying to survive.”

For a heartbeat, we just stood there, neither of us spoke.

Just the cold forest engulfing us, and thick tension.

“Kaia…Are you-”

I didn’t let Theo finish as I turned around.

And then, like the wind, I spiraled and ran again.

He didn’t follow, not yet.

But I knew he would.
