The packs outcast Luna (Kaia and Theo) novel Chapter 47

Chapter 47

–Theo–

She wouldn’t look at me.

:

Heck. She didn’t even take my hand when I offered to help her up after the fight.

Kaia brushed dirt off her palms. She had her head down the whole time, avoiding my gaze.

I knew her too well. The tension in her shoulders, the way she swallowed hard when she was holding back something painful.

I stepped toward her. She stepped back.

That hurt more than any punch she’d thrown.

“Kaia,” I said quietly, “talk to me.”

“I don’t have anything to say.”

“That’s a lie.” I say. “You and I have a lot to talk about. And we are doing so right now”

She let out a single, shaky breath, still refusing to meet my eyes. “Theo… just leave it alone.”

“No.” My voice came out sharper than intended. “You’ve been avoiding me for days. You won’t look at me, won’t speak to me. I deserve to know why.”

She lifted her chin, eyes burning. “Why? Because you make everything complicated.”

I blinked. “…Complicated?”

Her jaw tightened. “You show up everywhere. You look at me like-”

She cut herself off and shook her head.

“It’s too much. And I can’t… I won’t get in the way of whatever you and Elara….”

“Stop.” I raised a hand stopping her harsher than I meant. “There is no ‘me and Elara.’ There hasn’t been for a long time.”

But she just gave a humorless laugh. “Yeah? You think so? Because she sure acts like there is.”

“I don’t control her.” I say

“You didn’t correct her.” she replied.

That hit me like a punch.

I stepped closer, searching her eyes, trying to guess what she’s thinking. “You think I want her?”

She didn’t answer.

She didn’t have to. I could already tell she believed it.

And damn, that hurt.

“Kaia,” I said slowly, trying to hold her hand but she hide them behind her. “I haven’t wanted Elara in a long time.”

Silence stretched between us.

She didnt say anything neither did I.

Her heartbeat raced so fast I could hear it.

“We both know Elara is going to be your Luna soon” Kaia managed to say. “Then why did you call me? Why did you sound like- like you needed me?”

“Because I did.”

Her eyes shot up to mine.

“And you didn’t answer,” I continued, my voice cracking despite me trying so hard not to. “You weren’t there. And when you didn’t answer, I thought… Hell, I thought you didn’t give a damn about me.”

Her lips parted in shock.

“I-I didn’t see your calls until morning. I went to bed early, of course I would-be awake to see you calling me so late”

“I waited,” I whispered. “Like a damn fool. Then you came to my room and looked at me like you wished I’d never call you in the first place.”

“I was worried,” she snapped, emotions spilling. “I thought you were hurt. And then… Then I saw the lipstick

“Kaia.”

I stepped in front of her.

“…and you thought I’d kissed someone.” Finished for her

She looked away. That was my breaking point.

I gently, carefully caught her chin and forced her to look at me.

“I didn’t kiss anyone.” My voice dropped to a raw whisper. “I didn’t want anyone.”

“I wanted you.” I swallowed hard.

Her breath hitched.

“And maybe I was drunk,” I said, “but the things I meant to tell you that night? I meant them sober.”

She stared at me like the ground had vanished beneath her.

“Theo…” she whispered, voice trembling.

I leaned in, forehead almost brushing hers, our breath mingling.

“One more thing,” I murmured. “And I need you to hear this without running.”

Her hands curled into fists at her sides.

I”You’re not the one complicating things, Kaia.” I lowered my voice. “You’re the only thing that’s ever made

sense.”

Her breath brushed my lips.

That was all it took.

One soft exhale, warm and shaky. And suddenly my entire body went tense with the effort not to close the distance.

Kaia’s eyes flicked to my mouth.

And gods, I felt that.

I felt everything.

Slowly, painfully, I lifted my hand and cupped her jaw. She didn’t pull away this time.

She leaned into it just barely but enough to break every bit of control I had left.

“Kaia…” I whispered, my forehead lowering to hers.

She closed her eyes, I saw her lashes trembling.

My thumb brushed the edge of her lower lip.

She inhaled sharply. I could smell her pulse racing.

I could feel her walls crumbling, piece by piece.

I tilted her chin up. “Tell me to stop.”

Silence. She didn’t say a word.

Her fingers came up, hesitant at first, then curled into the front of my shirt, pulling me just an inch closer.

Just enough. My heart stopped.

“Kaia…” I was begging now, and I didn’t care.

:

“If I kiss you, I’m not stopping at one.”

:

Her lips parted, the slightest, sweetest invitation I’ve ever gotten.

I leaned in. But, a sudden howl ripped through the training grounds.

Urgent. Panic-filled. Calling the Alpha.

Kaia jerked back like she’d been struck.

I spun around, instincts snapping to full alert.

A warrior sprinted toward us, almost breathless, shouting, “Alpha! The barn-there’s a fire! Kids are trapped inside!”

My heart dropped.

Behind me, Kaia’s scent changed. I could sense fear and determination in her breath.

I turned back to her.

“Kaia-”

But she was already running. Her adrenaline rushing.

Straight toward the burning barn. Straight into danger. And away from me.

Totally forgetting the kiss that almost happened a minute ago.

My chest twisted painfully as I went after her.

Because in that moment, watching her sprint into fire without a second thought – I knew one thing for certain; I was already hers.

And she didn’t even know it.

I won’t let anything happen to her. Without Kaia, I’m as good as dead.

I rushed to the burning barn and truly the fire was raging mad.

Everyone of my warriors tried to put out the fire and rescued the kids but it was too much.

“What are we going to do, Alpha?” Zane asked me.

“Call the fire service,” I ordered.

“They are already on their way. But, it might be too late by the time they get here” Zane said..

“Okay, prepare thick shawls for me. I will go rescue the kids” I say.

“What? That’s too dangerous, Alpha” Zane exclaimed. “Your wolf might get trapped inside”

“What do you suggest we do then? Wait around and let the kids burn to death?” I questioned. “Get me what I asked”

“Alpha…” He wanted to argue but he walked it when he saw my harsh stare. “Alright. I will get it”

Suddenly, we heard screams.

“Kaia… What do you think you’re doing?”

“Get out of there. You’ll die”

“Whats going on?” I turn to Zane.

“I’m not sure. Alpha, let’s check it out”

When we returned to the burning barn, the pack members were screaming and waving at someone.

Then, my eyes caught her.

Kaia. She ran into the burning barn.

“Kaia…” My heart flew out of my chest.
