Chapter 64
–Theo–
It was finally the full moon night.
My heart was racing hard as I looked at my wristwatch.
:
I wanted to tell Kaia the truth before the full moon comes out.
But I hadn’t had time to do so.
Right now, she was chatting with Justine.
I smiled, looking at her from a distance.
She looked so happy, I can’t ruin her night with this.
Once the ceremony is done, I will tell her the truth, unfailingly.
Zane came up to me, smiling.
“How are you feeling, Alpha” Zane teased, smiling.
“Better than you’ve ever felt,” I retorted.
“Hey that’s not fair,” he protested, looking at me. “I was just trying to cheer you up”
“Who told you that I needed cheering up?” I asked, folding my arm.
Zane turned to look at me with an evil grin. He’s so annoying.

“Everyone who has their eyes on you can undoubtedly tell how nervous you look, Theo” Zane muttered, grinning. “Dont give yourself too much credit, you’re a nervous wreck”
“Isn’t Kaia and Justine getting along so well?” I asked, my eyes fixed on Kaia chatting happily away with Justine,
Zane’s mate.
“Yes, they are” Zane replied, looking at them as well. “If Kaia turned out to be your mate, we should go on double dates. Don’t you agree?”
Zane was grinning hard, and I wondered what was so exciting.
“Yes, we should” I nodded.
Soon, the moon appeared in the sky and it slowly formed into a full moon.
I’d been looking forward to this moment.
The moment the moon reached its peak, Kaia and I stood in front of each other.

Chapter 64
:
Hoping, we’d seal our relationship with the mate bond tonight.
My heart was beating a little too fast. I couldn’t understand what I was feeling at the moment.
Maybe it was hope or I was just terrified of the outcome.
But I stepped closer, staring into her pretty eyes. She looked nervous as well but she masked it.
“Kaia,” I whispered. “Are you ready?”
She nodded, breath trembling.

I reached for her hand. She stepped toward me, breathing unsteadily, her eyes glowing like something was waking in her too.
The full moon rose like a spotlight over the two of us, I felt all eyes on us.
I felt the pull immediately, my wolf pacing, restless and hungry to be close to Kaia.
And then-
A sudden crack of pain shot through my chest.
My wolf snarled, Kaia’s wolf snarled as well, pulling away.
We both stumbled backwards at the same time.
“What…Kaia, what’s happening?” I whispered, clutching my painful ribs.
She shook her head, terrified. “I don’t know. Something feels wrong.”
I reached for her again, this time tighter.
But my wolf recoiled, pulling away like it had been badly burned.
Hers did too.
She flinched away from me, shaking, her eyes wide with confusion.
“-I don’t know,” she whispered. “Why can’t I get close to you? It feels wrong. Theo, this doesn’t feel right”
The pack gasped.
Elders stepped forward to see what was happening.
Someone whispered, “Their bond. It’s rejecting.”
My heart dropped.
“No,” I said. “No, this can’t be true” I shook my head. “Kaia, don’t move. Something’s interfering. Just breathe. Just….”

Chapter 64
Cara’s voice cut through the crowd like a dagger.
:
“I knew it” Cara said, her voice dripping with venom.. “I knew you lied to us. Both of you.”
My stomach twisted. “Lied? What are you talking about?”
Cara stepped forward, and she had a satisfied smile on her lips.

“Theo, you deceived the Circle, didnt you? Dont even try to deny it” Cara said, seriously. “You embarrassed this pack. And for what? To run away from your duty? To escape from the responsibility of your father’s promise, you cheated the circle’s decree”
I clenched my fists. “Cara, stop. This isn’t what it looks like-”
“It’s exactly what it looks like,” she snapped, “Your desperation to avoid marrying Elara made you cling to a girl who was never your mate.”
Kaia flinched.
I felt something inside me crack.
Cara kept going. “You misled the Circle, Theo. You lied to the pack. Do you understand the shame you brought us?”
“Stop,” I managed. “Please, not in front of Kaia.”
Cara stepped closer. “If your heart wasn’t so weak, maybe you’d think clearly for once.”
My chest tightened. Harder.
It felt like a knife twisting inside of me.
Then pain ripped down my arm.
Not now, not in front of the whole pack. More than that, I can’t let Kaia see me in this condition.
I backed away, taking short breaths, but the world looked blurred in front of my eyes.
Kaia whispered, “Theo? You’re pale.”
I shook my head and turned, walking fast, then running, because if I collapsed in front of them, I would never live it down.
I made it to my private practice room before my knees buckled.
I threw a punch at the bag hard, anything to drown the thoughts.
I threw one more punch then another one.
Pain exploded in my chest. I grabbed the wall, choking on air.

Chapter 64
“Not now,” I whispered. “Please, not now, I can not”
I felt a stabbing pain rip across my chest.
I dropped to my knees.
Clutching my chest, gasping, choking….
“THEO!” Zane’s voice cut through the haze.
Then his arms were around me, dragging me up.
“You’re done. I’m taking you to your room. Now.”
I couldn’t protest, so I let him take me.
Everything went black.
–Kaia–
:
When Theo ran, I wanted to follow, but my legs wouldn’t move.
My wolf was howling inside me, confused and hurt.
We were supposed to be mates. Why did it suddenly feel wrong?
What made our wolves grow distant amd hateful of each other?
Why does it feel like something had been ripped out of place?
People kept staring at me. Whispering.
I couldn’t breathe.
But when I heard Zane shout Theo’s name from the far corridor, instinct hit like lightning.
I sprinted toward the sound.
When I reached the room, Zane was kneeling beside Theo, lifting him from the floor.
“Theo… Theo,” My heart almost gave out. “Damn it, breathe”
Theo wasn’t responding, and Zane looked shaken.
My heart fell into my stomach.
“What happened?” I whispered.
Zane’s jaw tightened. “His heart again. It gave out.”
“What do you mean again?”

Chapter 64
Zane didn’t answer.
:
My fingers shook as I reached for Theo’s hand. “Please wake up. Please.”
Zane carried him to his chambers. I followed, mortified and too scared to leave his side.
He laid Theo on the bed and called for the doctor.
Hours passed.
Theo didn’t wake.

I sat beside him, trembling so hard my teeth clattered. Every time his breath hitched, my chest twisted.
Why didn’t he tell me he was sick?
Why would he choose to fight this alone?
Did he think I wouldn’t be able to handle the truth?
Eventually, his eyelashes fluttered. His breath shifted.
He opened his eyes.
“Theo,” I choked. “You’re awake.”
He blinked slowly, confused. “Kaia…? Why are you crying?”
“I-” My voice cracked. “You scared me. You collapsed. You didn’t breathe for a moment. Why didn’t you tell me you are sick?”
Theo looked away. “Because I didn’t want you to worry.”
“That is not a reason,” I snapped, standing. “You owe me more than that.”
I stepped closer. “Do you think I’m weak? Do you think I can’t handle the truth? Or do you think I’m temporary, so it doesn’t matter if I lose you?”
Theo flinched.
“Kaia, no,” he whispered, his voice breaking. “I just… I didn’t want you to look at me the way Elara did.”
“I’m not Elara,” I shot back. “And you don’t get to make decisions for me out of fear.”
Theo swallowed, eyes almost glassy with fear.
“You could have died,” I whispered. “Right in front of me. And I would’ve never known why.”
His voice cracked. “I’m sorry. I was just scared”
I shook my head. “Sorry isn’t enough, Theo. Not this time.”

Chapter 64
:
What is the need to apologise now? Everything wouldn’t be the same for anyone.
We don’t have the mate bond; not like it doesn’t matter anymore.
Especially not when Theo doesn’t trust me enough to tell me, he’s been sick for years.
Theo was slipping away from me in too many ways at once.
And I wasn’t sure my heart could handle losing him.
