Chapter 72
–Draven–

I slammed the report onto my desk and leaned back, my jaw tightening with rage.
This made no sense.
The numbers were clean at first glance.
It had my signature, clearly approved by me.
Looking at the timestamp, it was accurate and perfectly timed.
I flipped through the pages again, slower this time, trying to see if I missed anything.
“No,” I muttered. “This isn’t possible.”

Resource inflow from the eastern routes was higher than it should have been, while outflow from the northern stores was lower than it should have been.
On paper, it is balanced accurately. Nobody would notice that something was amiss.
But in reality, something was wrong.
The timing was off by days. I noticed small gaps in between expected deliveries and registers.
Looking at it on the surface, it was easy to miss.
Someone was falsifying the pack’s records.
And they knew exactly how to do it without raising alarms.
I looked up sharply. Then I linked my beta and Gamma
“Come down to my office right now, Rowan and Dominic”
A few moments later, the door opened. My Beta, Rowan, was already inside, leaning against the table with his arms crossed.
The Gamma slipped in behind him, looking at us with confusion.
“You wanted to see me, Alpha?” Gamma Dominic asked.
I nodded. “Sit. Both of you.”
They did.
“What the hell is going on?” I asked, throwing the papers at him.

Rowan took the documents, he frowned as he skimmed the reports.
“These are signed off by the right people.” He reported, “What’s wrong with it?”

“That’s the problem,” I said. “Someone is falsifying reports. Whoever did this knew which signatures would never be questioned.”
Dominic picked up the papers and glanced through them as well.
“How is this possible?,” he muttered. “A lot of the shipments have been reported to have been delivered but the storehouse doesn’t have anything stored”
I exhaled slowly. “Which means this has been happening for a while.”
Rowan stiffened. “You think it’s internal.”
“I know it is.” I nodded.
Silence stretched between us.
“But how do we find out who’s behind the forgery?” Rowan asked, his face looked complicated. “There are no CCTVs in the shipment or storehouse”
“I don’t know how we are going to go about it but I want the person behind this ratted out soon” I said, and they nodded.
Then Dominic cleared his throat. “There’s something else.”
I looked at him. “Say it.”
“I received an invitation a little while ago” Dominic stated, “A formal invitation from the Leader of the Northern Region.”
Rowan glanced at me. “A party?”
“Yes,” Dominic said. “High-ranking packs only. Every high-ranking member of the packs under the northern region is invited. It’s selective.”
I leaned back, cold understanding settling in my chest.
My jaw clenched.
“They expect us to attend, Draven” Rowan continued. “Not just us alone, every major Alpha’s refusal would be noticed.”
I looked up slowly. “Since when does the North host parties instead of councils to oversee the welfare of the packs?”.
Rowan’s mouth twitched, debating whether to say what’s on his mind or not.
“I don’t know but Alpha Lord is planning something big.” Rowan enclosed us, whispering. “It’s a gossip

circulating the North but I think the Alpha Lord is capable of doing something big”
The Gamma nodded. “It’s a powerful move. Inviting the packs under the North to party while putting his plans in motion.. A socially powerful move, I have to give him his applause”
I tapped my finger against the desk.
“And this is how it starts,” Rowan muttered.
“When will you quit taking gossip seriously? Rowan” I asked, irritated.
The Alpha Lord has been living and ruling the north peacefully since my father was Alpha.
Why would he move to do something big now?
It’s all nonsense gossip.
Rowan met my gaze. “That’s not all, Alpha.”
I raised a brow. “There’s always more with you. Just shut up and fish out who’s responsible for the irregularities in the reports”
“They’re moving pieces of our resources. And they think I won’t notice.”
I stood, walking toward the window. “And if I don’t go?”
The Gamma answered quietly. “Then you look like you’re hiding something.”
I stared out at the courtyard below, my reflection faint in the glass.
A party in the North, hosted by the Alpha lord himself.
Every Alpha watches every other Alpha, trying to weigh and compare.
It will be filled with tension and toast.
I turned back to face them.
“And what if this is a trap?” Dominic asked.
I let out a chuckle. “Then this is our chance to find out who set the trap”
“So, the three of us are going?” Rowan frowned slightly.
“Yes,” I replied. “And we’ll go prepared.”
My lips curved into a smile. “Because no one throws a party like this unless they’re about to do something big.”
And I intended to know exactly what was going on in the North.

Rowan hesitated. “Whatever Liora? Do we tell her about what’s going on?”
I didn’t think of this at first. When he asked, I froze and picked up the reports.
I glanced at the reports, and my frown deepened the more I looked.

“Not yet,” I said. “If someone is manipulating pack resources, they’re patient and careful. I don’t want to cause panic, especially not in my household.”
Dominic nodded slowly. “Then we go in blind?”
“No,” I said. “We go in there acting like nothing is amiss”
I straightened my collar, already thinking three steps ahead.
“Rowan, you’ll audit every supply route again but quietly this time. Use second signatures, and don’t alert anyone, not even Liora.”
Rowan questioned. “And if someone notices?”
“Let them,” I replied. “I want to see what they do”
I turned to Dominoc. “You’ll be in charge of security for the party. We can’t be too careless when things aren’t looking right”
Dominic gave a grim smile. “Nothing escapes my eyes, Draven, don’t worry”
“I know,” I smiled. “This is why I want you to handle it”
Someone is treating my pack like a chessboard.
And I hate losing at chess, because it’s one of the things I was good at.
Silvermoon will not be played with when I’m still Alpha.
Not on my watch!
