“Mr. Pierce, your presence truly graces our humble office! Please, have a seat, Victor said, bowing and nodding obsequiously as he hurried over.
He gestured toward the sofa, trying to look as welcoming as possible.
But Tristan just shoved his hands in his pockets, settled himself right in Victor’s chair, and propped his long legs up on the desk. He lit a cigar, looking completely at ease.
The assistant standing nearby was stunned.
He’d never seen anyone act so brazenly in front of both Patrick and Victor.
‘So that’s Tristan Pierce, the legendary Young Master of the Pierce family, one of the four great clans, and grandson of General Pierce. No wonder everyone calls him the Young Master,’ the assistant thought, his mind spinning.
“Not bad, this seat’s pretty comfy,” Tristan said, taking a slow drag from his cigar and letting the smoke drift out lazily.
The smoke curled around his face, framing his striking good looks.
Victor felt a chill run down his spine. He snapped to attention, his smile freezing on his face.
“Mr. Pierce, you must be joking,” he said, forcing a laugh.
“Joking?” Tristan’s expression turned cold, his voice cutting through the air. “You had the guts to lay a finger on my sister-in- law, and you think I’m here to joke around?”
Victor flinched, a jolt of fear running through him as confusion clouded his mind.
“S-sister-in-law?” Victor blurted out, his voice trembling.
‘Wait a minute, isn’t Tristan the only grandson General Pierce has? How could he possibly have a sister-in-law?’ Victor’s thoughts raced, completely thrown for a loop.
‘Where did this sister-in-law come from?’ he wondered, utterly baffled.
“This is absurd!” Patrick had already finished reading the file from the assistant and, fuming, slammed it against Victor’s chest.
“Let her go, now!”
Victor stared at the scattered files on the floor, his eyes locking onto the top page. The name “Hannah Carter” was front and center, and he froze, his breath hitching.
‘Hannah is Tristan’s sister-in-law?’ Victor’s head spun.
‘Didn’t Gemma say Hannah was just some country bumpkin with no power or connections?’ He was totally stunned.
‘What the hell is going on?’ he thought, panic rising in his chest.
Tristan personally brought Patrick here to get her released!’ Victor’s mind was spinning.
‘Whoever Tristan calls “brother” must be someone absolutely terrifying!’ he thought, his heart pounding:
Victor suddenly felt a chill running down his spine. His job was on the line, and Gemma had really set him up this time!
“It’s all a misunderstanding! I’ll let her go right now!”

Chapter 102
Victor stammered, scrambling to get the guards to release Hannali
Hannah was being held alone in the temporary detention center.
The room was dim and damp, and the other inmates nearby looked completely defeated But Hannah sat on the bench, her cool and aloof aura setting her apart, eyes closed as if she were meditating.
She was so unfazed, it was like she didn’t even care she was locked up.
Victor swung open the cell door, and Tristan’s eyes lit up when he saw Hannah sitting there, calm and composed, meditating as if the dingy cell didn’t even exist.
So this is the woman who managed to catch Barnaby’s eye? I always wondered what kind of little wife could pull that off Now I see it for myself, Tristan thought, genuinely impressed.
Her beauty and that cool, almost untouchable aura were even more breathtaking than he’d expected.
‘Seriously, she and Barnaby are a perfect fit, like they were made for each other, Tristan mused, a hint of admiration in his
eyes.
“Ms. Carter, Mr. Pierce is here to get you out,” Victor approached, speaking in a hushed, respectful voice, like he was worried she might get spooked.
Hannah’s thick, long lashes fluttered, then she slowly opened her eyes, soft, alluring, with a frosty, unapproachable look.
She shot Victor a cold look, taking in his groveling attitude, a far cry from how he’d acted in the interrogation room this morning.
Her gaze shifted over to Tristan.
‘Who is this guy? Did Arthur send him?’ Hannah thought to herself.
He looked decent enough, with that air of wealth and privilege, dressed to the nines, definitely someone from the upper crust. It all clicked for Hannah why Victor was suddenly groveling.
‘Pathetic little sycophant,’ Hannah thought, her lips curling in disdain.
Without so much as a twitch, she shut her eyes and slipped right back into her meditation.
Tristan found this pretty interesting.
‘No wonder Barnaby picked her. She’s really something else,’ he thought, a glint of admiration in his eyes.
Victor was totally baffled.
“Tristan and Patrick came all the way here to get her out. Shouldn’t she be getting up and leaving right away?’ he wondered, completely lost.
‘Why isn’t she budging?’ he thought, totally confused.
‘Is she actually starting to like it here or what?’ Victor thought, totally baffled.
“Ms. Carter, Mr. Pierce is here to bail you out. You can leave now,” Victor said, his voice low and deferential as he stepped forward.
“Can you talk like a human for once?” Tristan swung his leg and kicked Victor. “Bail? She didn’t do anything wrong!”
Victor stumbled, nearly losing his balance.

He steadied himself and stammered, “Yeah, yeah, you’re right, she didn’t do anything wrong. It was my fault, I’m sorry”
Only then did Hannah lazily lift her eyelids, her lips barely parting as she said in a chilly tone, “My stuff”
Her phone and needle case had both been confiscated.
Seeing her finally speak. Victor wasted no time. He ordered her things to be brought over and handed them to her himself. practically groveling.
At that moment, Victor truly understood what people meant when they said, ‘Getting her in was easy, but sending her away is a whole different nightmare.
Hannah slipped her needle case into her pocket, then took her time accepting her phone. She opened the camera, pointed it right at Victor, and hit record.
Tell me, what exactly did you do wrong?” she asked, her voice cold and commanding.
Tristan’s interest was piqued even further as he watched Hannah in action.
‘She’s got that same energy as Barnaby. No wonder they’re a perfect pair, Tristan thought, genuinely impressed.
Victor’s face went stiff. ‘Why does this feel just like an interrogation?’ he thought, a chill running down his spine.
“Speak up!” Tristan snapped, kicking him again.
Victor felt utterly humiliated and wronged, but with Patrick just standing there watching and not saying a word, he wouldn’t dare say a word.
He hesitated for a moment, then finally said,
“I disgraced my position, broke professional ethics, and failed to be fair and impartial. I jumped to conclusions based on one side’s story and wronged Ms. Carter. I’m sorry! I promise, when I get back, I’ll seriously reflect on my mistakes and write up a formal apology so everyone knows not to mess up like I did.”
“So, you’re not denying that Gemma Baker teamed up with you to set me up and get me locked up?” Hannah asked, her eyes cold and unflinching.
Even though the holding cell was nice and warm, Victor was sweating bullets.
That tone, that icy stare, wasn’t this exactly how he’d grilled Hannah in the interrogation room this morning?
Now she was flipping the script, giving him a taste of his own medicine.
And she was doing it right in front of Patrick, putting him on the spot with such a ruthless question.
If he admitted it, he’d basically be confessing to taking bribes. If he denied it, he’d be admitting to negligence and would still face an investigation.
He couldn’t survive an investigation.
And if he kept quiet, with the way Hannah was acting, there was no way she was leaving anytime soon. Getting her in was easy, but sending her away? That was a whole different nightmare.
After weighing his options, he finally said, “Yes, I shouldn’t have listened to Gemma’s lies. I neglected my duty and made the wrong call.”
“A wrong call?” Hannah sneered, her laugh icy. “This is a false accusation. You’re trying to pin a crime on me!”
Victor felt a chill run down his spine. As a cop, breaking the very laws he was supposed to enforce, that was a serious offense.

“Ms. Carter, I’ve already got my team digging into this case. We’ll get to the truth and clear your name. Is there anything else you need?”
Patrick finally couldn’t stand watching anymore and stepped forward to ask.
He was sharp. He could see that if things kept dragging on like this, they’d be stuck in a stalemate. If nobody handled the case. Hannah wasn’t budging an inch.
He used to think Victor was a real smooth operator, knew how to play the game, stuck to his professional ethics, and was pretty damn competent.
If Tristan hadn’t dragged him back at the last minute and he hadn’t witnessed this disaster himself, he might’ve actually given Victor a promotion.
‘Smooth operator? More like a bootlicker to the bosses and a tyrant to everyone else!’ Patrick sneered to himself.
Now, not only did he have to rethink who’d take over after him, he was definitely going to shake things up in the whole department.
Hannah shot Patrick a cool, detached look. “Yes. I’m reporting Gemma Baker for false accusation.”
