Chapter 103
Chapter 103
“Alright!” Patrick agreed readily. He turned and called over Ethan, assigning him to handle the case.
At the same time, he had Victor taken away to be investigated.
After giving his instructions, Patrick turned back to Hannah.
“Ms. Carter, we’re already on it. Why don’t we head to my office, have a seat, and grab a bite?” he suggested.
Once we get out of here, everything will be easier to sort out.
“No need, I’ll just wait here,” Hannah said, turning down the offer.
If she left now, Gemma’s accusation wouldn’t stick.
Seeing this, Tristan couldn’t help but shoot a few WhatsApp messages to Barnaby.
Tristan: [Barnaby, no wonder you’ve got your eye on her. She’s something else.]
Tristan: [Damn, she really doesn’t mess around!]
Tristan: [Seriously, man, you better tread carefully. Don’t ever mess with Hannah, or you’ll regret it!]
Skycrest House, in the study.
Barnaby sat at his desk, elbows propped up, fingers steepled before his lips. His gaze was razor-sharp, locked onto the computer screen.
On the monitor, the surveillance feed from the temporary detention center played. The camera fixed on the room where Hannah was being held. Beneath the video, lines of white code scrolled across a black background.
Just then, his phone screen lit up. He glanced over, saw it was Tristan, and picked it up to check the message.
He shot back a quick reply.
On the surveillance feed, Tristan’s defiant look disappeared in a flash.
Barnaby: [Got the screenshot. I’ll send it to Hannah in a bit.]
Tristan was speechless.
‘Seriously, those two really are cut from the same cloth,’ Tristan thought.
Hannah wouldn’t budge from the detention center, and Patrick could feel the pressure closing in on him.
Having a VIP like her stuck here was a ticking time bomb. If he couldn’t get her out soon, he’d be the one in trouble.
So, he pushed Ethan to get things sorted ASAP.
Ethan led his team and split them into three groups.
One group headed to the Baker Villa to bring Gemma in. Another went to the hospital to double-check Jasper’s injuries. The last group made their way to Cavalor School to track down Owen, the witness.
At Grace Hospital.

As soon as Gemma left the police station, she headed straight to the hospital to check on Jasper

When she got to his room and saw that Daisy and Lauren weren’t there, a flash of irritation flickered across her face. But the moment she saw Jasper lying in bed, looking all gloomy, her heart just broke for him.
She walked over and said, “Jasper, guess what? Hannah’s definitely getting locked up this time!”
Jasper had been drowning in depression, thinking he might never speak again. But when he heard that, the emptiness in his eyes vanished, replaced by a sudden spark of hope.
With Hannah out of the picture, Owen will finally see her true colors and come crawling back to me, Jasper thought.
And then, my spot at Holroad University is basically guaranteed!’
But their joy barely lasted three seconds before the door was kicked open and a squad of cops stormed in..
“We are police, please cooperate,” Ethan said, flashing his badge.
Then he turned to Gemma. “Gemma, you’re coming with us.”
Gemma sensed something was off, but her first instinct was that Hannah was about to get convicted.
“Nice, Victor really gets things done fast!” she remarked with a self-satisfied smirk.
Ethan shot a look at one of his officers, who immediately got the message. The officer started recording and pointed the camera at Jasper.
“Jasper, we need to review the case details again. Are you able to speak?” the officer asked.
Jasper got annoyed as soon as he heard that. He opened his mouth and said, “No.”
His answer came out loud and clear.
The officer was speechless.
Ethan was speechless.
Gemma was speechless.
Jasper was shocked himself.
“I can talk! I really can talk!” Jasper gasped, unable to believe it. He kept testing his voice over and over, and before he knew it, he was so happy he burst into tears.
No more freaking out about being mute for the rest of his life.
“Mom, I can talk!” he called out, voice trembling with excitement.
He looked up, only to find everyone in the room staring at him like he’d just lost his mind.
Jasper couldn’t let out another word.
“Since you’re not too injured to walk, you can both come with us,” Ethan said.
Jasper, still convinced Hannah was about to get thrown in jail, just nodded and followed.
‘I can’t wait to see that hick locked up with my own eyes!’ he thought.
Ethan led the two of them back to the police station, with everyone watching, and headed straight for the temporary

detention center
By the time they arrived. Patrick and Tristan had already left, so it was just one cop and Hannah in the room.
Jasper felt pretty good when he saw Hannah just sitting there in the detention center, playing on her phone.
Man, I wish Owen could see her like this, he thought.
Gemma couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off, but her sense of superiority made her brush it off for now.
“What, Arthur couldn’t even get you a lawyer?” Gemma taunted as she walked up.
Hannah sat right in front of the surveillance camera, her phone angled away as she worked on the task Piggy had sent her She didn’t even glance up.
That was when it hit Gemma. She finally realized what had felt so off just now.
The cell door was wide open, and Hannah was sitting there, casually scrolling on her phone like she owned the place. Victor was nowhere in sight.
Wait, when you get locked up, they’re supposed to take away your phone and everything!
“Here they are,” Ethan announced.
Just then, Patrick and Tristan walked back in after stepping out for a moment.
Gemma turned around, and her eyes widened in surprise. Wait, that was the young master of the Pierce family and the chief himself!
‘Wait, did Victor actually invite these big shots over?’ Gemma thought, her mind spinning.
She’d been dying to suck up to the Pierce family, the real power players, but never got the chance.
‘How the hell did Victor get Tristan Pierce, the young master of the Pierce family, to show up?’ she wondered, totally baffled.
Gemma was suspicious, but right now, it was just her, Jasper, and Hannah left in the room.
‘Wait, did Tristan actually come here for Hannah?’ Gemma wondered.
‘Come on, Hannah’s just some country girl. There’s no way she’d know someone like Tristan Pierce,’ she thought.
So Gemma figured Tristan and Patrick were probably here for the Bakers.
Lately, the Baker family had been riding high, first those rumors about teaming up with Raven, then getting chummy with the Nameless Healer sent their stocks through the roof. It made sense Tristan would want in.
“Mr. Pierce, Chief Patrick,” Gemma greeted them with a bright, eager smile as she stepped forward.
Then, laying it on thick, she said, “Wow, I never thought my little issue would get the personal attention of you two. I’m honestly honored!”
“This isn’t a small matter. Victor couldn’t handle it, so I had to personally take over,” Patrick said, his voice firm and serious.
Gemma still felt something was off, but her smile didn’t falter. “Thank you both for handling this personally. I’m truly honored.”
Just then, a police officer brought in a man in a gray suit, wearing frameless glasses.
“Hello, everyone. I’m Andrew Flynn, Ms. Carter’s lawyer,” the man introduced himself.

Hannah stopped typing on her phone and glanced up.
A lawyer? she blinked, surprised.
Did Arthur send him?’ she wondered.
When Gemma saw Andrew, her smile faltered, the confidence draining from her face.
Andrew was a legendary lawyer, the kind only the rich and powerful could ever hope to hire.
Of all people, he’s actually representing Hannah?’ Gemma thought, reeling in disbelief.
Now that uneasy feeling in her gut was stronger than ever.
“Chief Patrick, Ethan, we’ve brought Owen Croft in,” another officer reported as he escorted Owen into the room.
“Owen, what brings you here?” Jasper blurted out, a bad feeling twisting in his gut as he looked at Owen.
Owen shot Jasper and Gemma a cold, expressionless look, saying nothing.
He’d already gotten the full rundown from the cops on the way over, and now he was totally fed up with Jasper and the Baker family.
By now, Gemma’s smile had completely vanished.
‘Hold on… This whole setup isn’t about throwing Hannah in jail at all. They’re here to go after me, aren’t they?’ Gemma thought, her heart skipping a beat.
