Chapter 111
Chapter 111
“Barnaby, you’re not exactly hurting for cash, are you?” Oliver teased
Oliver squinted at Barnaby, thinking he looked familiar. Then it hit him.
Seventh Young Master of the Thole family, the one Leopold Thole spoiled the most.

Too bad, after Leopold passed away, Barnaby’s status as an illegitimate son wasn’t exactly welcomed by the new head of the family, so he got shipped off to the army for some tough love.
Still, the shares he held, second only to the family head, were nothing to sneeze at, especially once they kicked in.
“Don’t try to butter me up. I don’t do free house calls,” Barnaby said coldly.
Hannah lost her words.
Van could only stare, lost for words.
“Relax, I’m not here to freeload,” Oliver said, whipping out his phone and scanning the QR code. He transferred two million on the spot. “One million for the house call, one million for the treatment.”
He could feel his stomachache vanish almost instantly. The effect was so immediate, it put any shot or pill he’d ever had to shame.
Hannah lost her words.
Van could only stare, lost for words.
Barnaby pocketed his phone with a frosty look and turned to leave.
Hannah asked Van to grab a pen and paper, then scribbled out a prescription.
“Follow this list, brew the medicine, and take it three times a day for a week,” she instructed.
Once she was done, she packed up her things and hurried after Barnaby.
She watched Barnaby’s retreating figure, thinking, ‘Wasn’t his leg supposed to hurt?’
‘So why is he walking so fast?’
‘Is he mad or something?’
She really couldn’t figure out what Barnaby was so worked up about.
She followed him all the way to the shore, only managing to catch up when he finally stopped.
“Your leg doesn’t hurt anymore?” she asked.
Barnaby noticed how long it took her to catch up and felt like he didn’t matter much to her.
“It hurts,” he replied.
“Then why are you walking so fast?” Hannah retorted.
Barnaby paused for a moment.
He pulled off his shirt, carelessly tossed it and his phone onto the sand, then handed the camera to Hannah.

“Take my picture,” he said, walked right into the water, and swam away without another word.
Hannah wanted to chase after him, but with her long dress, there was no way she could wade into the water, so she was stuck on the shore.
The waves washed over her feet, cool and a little chilly.
It was nearly sunset, the sun hanging low and casting flecks of gold over the deep blue sea. The whole scene looked absolutely stunning.
Hannah switched on the camera, snapped a few shots of the scenery, then tried to spot Barnaby in the waves.
He was swimming around, his head popping up every so often. Hannah was honestly baffled. What exactly did he want her to take pictures of?
Just then, Ronin came over, walking the little piglet on a leash. Hannah just ignored Barnaby altogether, handed the camera. to Ronin, and started playing with the piglet.
Barnaby spent half an hour swimming to cool off before finally coming ashore.
When he got out, he saw Hannah and the piglet digging around in the sand, totally absorbed in their game, while Ronin was busy snapping photos of everything.
Barnaby just stared at her, not saying a word.
He ran his fingers through his wet hair and walked right up to Hannah.
Hannah looked up, her gaze traveling up his long, lean legs. The water droplets glistened on his skin in the sunset, making him look almost too good to be real, so mesmerizing she couldn’t tear her eyes away.
She was totally entranced.
They locked eyes in the golden dusk, their shadows stretching long across the sand.
Ronin aimed his camera at them and snapped a photo.
“Who’s got the better body, him or me?” Barnaby suddenly asked.
Hannah blinked, confused by his sudden question. “What?”
“Is that actor’s body better, or mine?” Barnaby repeated, as he crouched down in front of her.
“I didn’t really notice,” Hannah replied.
Barnaby frowned. “You had your hands all over him!”
“I was just doing acupuncture,” Hannah explained. “To a doctor, patients are just patients. It doesn’t matter if they’re men or
women.”
“So, am I just a patient to you too?” Barnaby asked, his eyes fixed on hers.
Hannah’s gaze unconsciously drifted to his chest, then she snapped back to reality and quickly looked down. “Yes,” she mumbled, feeling a little flustered.
Barnaby didn’t miss a single one of her little tells. “You know, you always look away and drop your eyes when you’re lying,” he teased.
Hannah lost her words.

Chapter 111
Her little secret exposed, she felt flustered and a bit annoyed. “So what’s your point?”
“Didn’t you notice I was jealous?” Barnaby asked.
Hannah lost her words.
Ronin was speechless as well.
Barnaby, do you have to be so straightforward? Ronin thought.
Seriously, nobody else just blurts stuff out like you do!’
“You need to coax me and make me feel better,” Barnaby said, totally serious.
Hannah was wordless.
She’d never met anyone who could just admit they were jealous so openly.
This was way out of her comfort zone. She was completely lost.
She’d never had to cheer anyone up before; she’d always been the one getting pampered as a kid.
Besides, she didn’t think she’d done anything wrong. She was just doing her job as a doctor. ‘Seriously, what’s there to be jealous about?’ she wondered.
“Then go swim for another half hour and cool off,” Hannah said, pointing toward the sea.
Barnaby just stared at her, not saying a word.
‘Man, this girl is savage, Barnaby thought.
“You’re really not going to feel bad for me? At least tell me, what’s up with you and that pretty face?” Barnaby grumbled, sounding all jealous.

He stretched out his long legs and just sat down right there on the sand, casually joining in the digging like it was no big deal.
Hannah gave him a sidelong glance. She’d totally seen this coming, of course he’d ask. Good thing she’d already given Van a heads-up.
“We’re just internet friends,” she said.
“Internet friends, and you’re sending him photos?” Barnaby raised an eyebrow, clearly not letting it go.
Hannah paused for a moment.
‘Does an ID photo even count as a real picture?’ Hannah muttered to herself, feeling a little awkward.
She could already guess what he was going to say next.
“You’ve never even sent me a photo of yourself,” Barnaby grumbled.
Hannah paused for a moment.
‘Of course,’ Hannah thought to herself.
“I must’ve sent it by mistake,” she blurted, just making something up.
She definitely couldn’t tell him the real reason. It was just for that contract with Van.

Chapter 111
Barnaby just stared at het, not saying a word
Van’s gay, so we’re just close friends, like sisters, Hannah added, hoping to clear things op
That explanation made Barnaby feel a lot better, though he kept his face stoic
Hannah’s mine. Only mine, he thought, possessively
Once the sand pit was about the size of a basketball. Barnaby scooped up the little piglet with one hand, dropped it right in. and started piling sand on top, pretending the piglet was Van getting buried instead.
The little piglet couldn’t make a sound.
Hannah lost her words.
“Hannah!” came a cheerful shout from way behind her.
Hannah turned around and saw Candy bounding over, grinning from ear to ear. She barely got to her feet before Candy tackled her with a huge bear hug.
“I missed you like crazy! I was filming and spotted you from way off, waved like a maniac, but you just blanked me!” Candy pouted, squeezing her tight.
“Seriously, I didn’t even see you,” Hannah replied.
I was so caught up helping Oliver, I didn’t notice anything.
Barnaby saw the two girls hugging and frowned, a little jealous. ‘Wait, are Hannah and Van really that close? Like, besties or something?’ he wondered.
Candy finally let go of Hannah and only then noticed Barnaby. She froze for a second, her breath catching. “Oh my god, he’s so hot!”
Then she pulled Hannah aside, her eyes sparkling with gossip.
“Is that the Uncle Barnaby you told me about? Oh my god, his looks are insane! Are you two on a date right now? What’s going on? Am I interrupting something?”
“Hold up!” Hannah cut her off. “We’re not on a date, so don’t go there.”
Candy flashed her a knowing grin, nodding like she was in on some big secret. “I get it, I get it. You two are in that ‘will-they- won’t-they’ phase, huh? Want me to play matchmaker or something…”
“No, don’t even go there!” Hannah clamped a hand over Candy’s mouth, panicking that Barnaby might overhear and get the wrong idea. “Candy, quit it! He’s still sulking!”
Candy peeled Hannah’s hand off her mouth. “Trust me, I know how this works. Guys are easy, seriously. You two should come over for a barbecue tonight. I’ll teach you some tricks.”
