The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 112

Chapter 112

Chapter 112

Hannah was still a bit skeptical, but Candy was way better at handling guys than she was, so she agreed.

It was nighttime, and the courtyard of the villa the crew had rented for Candy and the others was glowing with lights, all set up for a party.

When Hannah asked Barnaby to come along, he kept that cold, stoic face of his, but still tagged along anyway.

Since there was a night shoot tonight, besides the usual faces including Van, there were two actresses and a few assistants out in the yard, grilling, chatting, and having drinks. The vibe was buzzing.

“Hannah, over here!” Candy had snagged a grill for herself and waved them over as soon as she saw them.

“Barnaby, you’re not really the grilling type, are you? Go grab a drink and relax. Hannah and I will bring you some food when it’s ready,” Candy said, catching sight of Barnaby joining them.

Candy said, catching sight of Barnaby joining them.

Barnaby gave the grill a frosty glance. “That’s it?’ he scoffed to himself.

He’d been through military training where he was left to survive alone in the wild for three days and nights, always on edge for ambushes. It was hell out there. Grilling here was child’s play.

Still, he was curious to taste Hannah’s cooking, so he found an empty table and sat down, keeping his eyes on her from a distance.

Hannah knew Candy was just trying to get Barnaby out of the way. She went over to the sink to wash her hands, picked out a few lamb skewers, and headed back to the grill to get cooking.

Back in the mountains, she’d often sneak out with the neighboring kids to hunt and grill their catch, all behind her grandma’s back. She was a pro at grilling.

It didn’t take long before the irresistible smell of grilled lamb wafted through the yard, making Van practically cry with hunger.

He dashed over. “Boss, it smells amazing! I want some!”

“Barnaby hasn’t even had a bite yet. You sure you wanna risk it?” Candy teased with a grin.

Van could feel two dagger-like stares drilling into his back, making him shiver. “Uh, I think I’ll just stick to my own grill,” he mumbled.

With that, he went off to grab his own food.

“When you take it over to him, don’t give him that stone-cold look. Try to be a little softer, and if you can, give him your cutest act,” Candy advised.

Candy arranged the skewers Hannah had grilled on a plate, added some foil-grilled chives for good measure, and finished it off with a ketchup heart on top.

“Is this really gonna work?” Hannah asked, giving the heart a doubtful look.

“Trust me, it’s a sure thing,” Candy said, patting her chest.

“Guys don’t get all moody because they’re actually mad. They just want to be the center of your attention, to make sure you’re really seeing them,” she added.

Chapter 112

Is that really what Barnaby’s thinking? Hannah couldn’t help but douba it

Still, she grabbed the plate, wondering how to come off a bit sweeter as she slowly walked over to him.

Just then, a flash of red darted ahead of her and placed the barbecue right in front of Barnaby

Hannah froze mid-step.

Barnaby was busy texting when a wave of perfume, so strong it drowned out even the smell of barbecue, washed over him. Suddenly, a plate of barbecue was set down in front of him.

He looked up to see a woman in a red spaghetti strap dress, looking every bit the seductress. He frowned, clearly put off by the heavy scent.

“Hey, you look so lonely sitting here all by yourself. How about we share some barbecue?” she said, giving him a flirty smile.

Jessica Taylor tucked her hair behind her car and gave him a playful wink.

She’d just stepped out of the bathroom when she noticed a guy in the yard who was even hotter and younger than Oliver. Her heart fluttered, and she couldn’t resist going over to flirt.

She was the latest it girl, totally confident in her looks and body. In showbiz, there wasn’t a man she couldn’t wrap around her finger.

Barnaby’s expression was icy, and he was just about to tell her off when he caught sight of Hannah standing behind her. Instantly, he changed his mind.

He simply said, “Sure.”

Seeing this, Jessica’s smile became even more alluring. ‘I knew it. No man can resist my charms,’ she thought smugly.

“Here, I grilled these myself. Try one?” she said, sitting down right across from Barnaby with a flirty smile.

Under the table, she slipped off her heels and was just about to slide her foot up Barnaby’s leg when Hannah walked over.

She plopped the plate down on the table, flashed Barnaby her sweetest smile, and said in a playful voice, “Daddy, your barbecue’s ready!”

Jessica jerked her foot back so fast she almost fell out of her chair, staring at the two of them like she’d just seen a ghost.

‘Did she just call him Daddy?’ Jessica’s brain short-circuited.

‘Isn’t this guy, like, barely twenty?

‘Where’d he get a daughter that grown up?’

Barnaby gave Hannah a doting look. “Thanks, sweetheart. And you even drew a heart. You’re the cutest.”

Hannah smiled. “Glad you like it.”

Barnaby grabbed a lamb skewer and took a bite.

It was so salty, he might as well have been chewing on pure salt.

The whole yard smelled incredible… so why does this taste so awful?’ Barnaby thought, totally baffled.

“Is it tasty?” Hannah asked, flashing that killer smile that could send chills down anyone’s spine.

Barnaby swallowed it without flinching, keeping his poker face. “Delicious.”

“If you think it’s good, then eat up,” Hamah said, nudging the plate toward him. Then she turned to Jessica, her smile still razor-sharp “Ms, would you like some too?”

That sinister grin on Hannah’s face made Jessica shudder

‘Ms?’ Jessica’s mind went blank in disbelief.

‘Do I seriously look that old? Mylene thought, totally thrown off.

She stared at the plate, ketchup and chili sauce everywhere, with some weird, ugly heart on top. She was honestly speechless. What even was that?

‘Father and daughter? For real?’ Jessica’s brain was short-circuiting.

Who are they trying to fool?’ she scoffed to herself.

“S-sorry to bother you,” Jessica stammered, hurriedly slipping her shoes back on and making a beeline for the door. No way was she sticking around to get exposed as the side chick.

As soon as Jessica left, Hannah’s smile disappeared in an instant, and she slipped right back into her usual cool, aloof vibe.

“Oops, did I just scare off your hookup?” Hannah said, deadpan.

“Yeah, real shame,” Barnaby replied, but he didn’t sound the least bit sorry.

Hannah gave him a nonchalant glance for a few seconds, then turned and walked away.

‘Looks like he’s in a great mood. Still has time to chase girls. Who needs to bother cheering him up?’ Hannah thought with a hint of sarcasm.

‘Ha, men really are all pigs,’ she sneered inwardly.

Barnaby watched Hannah’s back as she left the yard, thinking, ‘Shit, I might’ve pushed it too far this time.’

Meanwhile, over at the grill, Candy had just stepped away to take a call. When she got back, she found all the condiment jars wiped clean, even the giant salt jar was missing.

“Huh? Ketchup and chili sauce I can understand, but who the heck used up all that salt?” Candy blinked, totally confused.

Once Hannah stepped out of the yard, she realized she’d let her guard down. There were no streetlights, the moon was buried behind thick clouds, and everything ahead was pitch black.

The villa they were staying in was just a few dozen meters away, but with all those trees in the way, not a single light could be

seen.

Her steps faltered as she turned on her phone’s flashlight, cold sweat prickling on her forehead.

Ever since that traumatic event when she was six, Hannah always thought she could keep the world at arm’s length, stay completely detached.

But after Barnaby came back into her life, she realized she just couldn’t pull it off.

Whenever he was around, he always managed to throw her off balance.

Like now, she’d walked out in a hurry, only to realize it was pitch black all around her.

Hannah was afraid of the dark. She could tough it out for a short while, but if it dragged on, her body would start trembling

uncontrollably, her heart would pound, and her breathing would turn shallow and quick.

She started walking faster without even realizing it, but then her foot caught on a rock and she tripped, crashing to the ground.

Her phone flew out of her hand, and in an instant, she was plunged into complete darkness.

Hannah lay sprawled on the ground, nerves stretched taut. The more anxious she got, the less she could see. Her eyes were useless, and it felt like something was creeping closer through the pitch-black night.

She scrambled backward in fear, when suddenly, a cold hand grabbed hers….
