The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 113

Chapter 113

Ab Hammal screamed, startled.

Without thinking, she grabbed the hand that startled her, yanked the person toward her, and slammed her knee up

Barnaby hadn’t expected her to suddenly get so strong. He quickly blocked her knee with his other hand, but was still caught off guard when she flipped him over her shoulder.

Barnaby let out a mulled groan, “Baby, it’s me…”

Hannah didn’t seem to hear him. She scrambled up and swung a kick at Barnaby

Barnaby could see well in the dark. He rolled aside to dodge, but just as he got to his feet, Hannah was already rushing at him again.

They traded a few more moves, and Barnaby was genuinely surprised. ‘Hannah actually knows how to fight?’ he thought, But after a few more exchanges, he realized something was off. Hannah’s moves weren’t refined, but every strike was aimed at his vital spots.

Even when she fell, she didn’t seem to feel any pain. She just got up and attacked again, like her body was running on pure survival instinct.

Barnaby frowned, dodged her attacks, and found an opening. He quickly subdued her, pulling her into a tight embrace. Only then did he realize she was freezing cold and trembling all over.

“Hannah?” he called out again.

She didn’t respond. Instead, she struggled even harder.

Barnaby suddenly remembered how afraid she was of the dark. This was way more serious than he’d ever thought.

‘Just what did she go through to be left with scars this deep?’ he couldn’t help but wonder.

“Baby, don’t be scared. It’s me,” Barnaby said, holding her head firmly to his chest.

Hannah couldn’t break free. Her head was pinned against his solid chest, and in a panic, she bit down hard, desperate to

escape.

Barnaby let out a muffled groan of pain, but he didn’t loosen his grip. Instead, he leaned down and whispered “Hannah” softly in her ear.

Suddenly, a sea breeze blew the clouds apart, and the bright full moon lit up the night.

“Hannah…” Barnaby called out softly, his voice gentle and soothing.

Just then, Candy came running over, holding two flashlights.

She’d suddenly noticed Hannah was missing, and then Barnaby was gone too. There was leftover barbecue on the table, and it hit her. Had they gotten into a fight? She grabbed the flashlights and hurried out to look for them.

When she finally spotted them, she hadn’t even had a chance to breathe a sigh of relief before her heart jumped into her throat again.

Both of them were covered in sand, and Hannah’s dress was torn. It was obvious they’d been in a scuffle.

“Hannah!” Candy rushed over, but didn’t dare touch her. She snapped at Barnaby, her voice tight with worry and frustration.

Chapter 113

“There aren’t even any streetlights out here! How could you just let her go off by herself? Hannah’s terrified of the dark!

“When she was little, traffickers locked her up and abused her in a pitch-black room. It left her with scars that never healed. If she’s stuck in the dark too long, she gets super defensive and lashes out.”

By the end, Candy’s voice broke with heartbreak.

Barnaby’s heart clenched, and he instinctively tightened his grip on Hannah’s arms.

As soon as the light appeared, Hannah stopped struggling, and even her bite gradually loosened.

“Barnaby…” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper, as soft and helpless as a kitten.

Seeing her finally snap out of it, Barnaby gently stroked the back of her head, his heart aching for her. “I’m right here. It’s okay, don’t be afraid.”

The sound of Barnaby’s voice and his presence helped Hannah calm down a little, but the darkness still had her shaking.

“I want to go home,” she whispered, her voice soft and fragile.

“Okay, I’ll take you home. Can you walk?” Barnaby reached for her hand as he let go.

Hannah shook her head.

“Then I’ll carry you,” Barnaby said, crouching down and turning his back to her so she could climb on.

Hannah climbed onto his back, and Barnaby hitched her up, giving her a piggyback ride.

Candy, fuming and worried sick, followed close behind, lighting the way for them with her flashlight.

The waves lapped against the shore, while the full moon drifted through the clouds overhead.

Hannah held onto Barnaby’s neck for dear life, her face pressed deep into his shoulder, desperately soaking in the faint tobacco scent that always helped her feel safe.

When they got back to the villa, they found the whole place was out of power. The living room was lit only by candles, casting flickering shadows across the walls.

Ronin was in the living room, pacing as he talked on the phone.

“What happened?” Barnaby asked.

“The transformer broke down all of a sudden. I’m trying to get someone over to fix it,” Ronin replied.

Ronin was surprised to see Barnaby carrying Hannah back. ‘Back already? That was fast,’ he thought.

Candy was about to suggest they head back to her place, but Barnaby was already turning to leave with Hannah on his back, tossing out a quick reply.

“No need. We’re heading home,” he said.

That was when Ronin noticed something was off with Hannah. Usually, she was so cool and distant, like she was from another world, but now she was curled up against Barnaby’s back, looking all soft and vulnerable.

Ronin didn’t dare dwell on it. He quickly scooped up the little pig, blew out the candles, and headed out to get the car.

Once they were on the plane, Barnaby brought Hannah into the bedroom and gently set her down. Only then did he notice

how pale she looked, her eyes empty and unfocused. She was still badly shaken.

He asked the flight attendant for a first aid kit and personally cleaned up the scrapes on her palms and knees, putting on some band-aids with extra care.

“Are you hungry? Want something to eat? Barnaby asked softly, gently wiping the sand off her fare with a wet wipe.

Hannah just shook her head, moving almost like she was on autopilot.

Seeing her like this, Barnaby couldn’t help but think she looked a little cute, but mostly, his heart ached for her.

Try to get some rest. When you wake up, we’ll be home.” Barnaby said softly.

Without a word, Hannah lay down, and Barnaby tucked her in with the blanket. Just as he turned to get her some water, she reached out and grabbed his hand.

“Don’t go…” Her big, tear-filled eyes looked up at him, pleading.

Right now, she was all soft and vulnerable, tugging at anyone’s heartstrings.

Barnaby felt something deep inside him melt. “I’m not leaving,” he promised.

The next morning, Hannah woke up, her stomach growling with hunger.

She opened her eyes and found herself face-to-face with Barnaby’s alluring Adam’s apple and his defined collarbone. Just below it, there was a bite mark, broken skin, bruised and swollen, with dried blood crusted around the edges. The wound hadn’t been treated at all.

Barnaby was still sound asleep, one arm wrapped around her waist, the other tucked under her head as a pillow. The way they were lying together was way too intimate, almost suggestive.

Hannah’s mind went completely blank.

Wait… was that really me who bit him?’ she thought, her heart lurching in her chest.

‘What did I even do last night?’ Hannah thought, her mind spinning in panic.

She glanced down, checking herself and Barnaby. They still had all their clothes on. She breathed a huge sigh of relief.

After a while, bits and pieces of last night started coming back to her. She vaguely remembered running outside, freaking out in the dark, and Barnaby giving her a piggyback ride back… ».

A rush of mortification and bashfulness flooded her chest.

Hannah crept out of bed, moving as quietly as she could. She realized they were still on the plane. The flight had already landed, but with the window shades pulled down, she couldn’t even tell if it was day or night outside.

Just as she was about to sneak out, Barnaby’s voice rumbled from behind her, still rough and sleepy.

“Baby, you’re just gonna bail after crashing here?” Barnaby drawled.

Speechless, Hannah just stared at him.

“Just forget everything that happened last night!” she shot back, whipping around and giving him her signature icy look.

With that, she spun around and walked out.

Barnaby lost his words.

‘Man, she’s way cuter when she’s all soft and helpless, Barnaby thought to himself.

After washing up, Hannah grabbed some food from the flight attendant and stuffed herself. Once she was full, it hit her, the bite mark on Barnaby’s collarbone.

She couldn’t actually remember biting him, but somehow, she just knew it was her. The thought made her face flush, she felt super awkward about it.

She asked the flight attendant for a first aid kit and made her way back to the room.

Barnaby stepped out of the bathroom, wearing a loose black bathrobe, his hair still damp.

Hannah’s eyes immediately landed on the bite mark just below his collarbone. The blood was gone, but the bruise and the mark were still there. She’d really sunk her teeth in.
