Chapter 180

As soon as Hannah spoke, the whole room fell silent in shock.

Drugging!

The Croft family was a family of scholars, known for their strict rules and upright values, a true role model among the four great families.

Who would have the guts to do something so outrageous to their elders, right out in the open?

“If you don’t know how to treat her, just admit it. Stop trying to stir up drama. Even telling my Mom to quit her medication could land you in serious trouble,” Teresa sneered.

“Enough,” Benedict shot Teresa a glare, his tone full of warning.

Teresa froze for a moment, shocked that Benedict actually believed Hannah.

But then it hit her, Benedict and Pamela shared a deep mother-son bond. He would never let anyone harm his mother, not even a little.

So it was no surprise that Hannah’s words instantly grabbed Benedict’s attention.

“Explain yourself,” Benedict demanded, his eyes fixed on Hannah, his tone icy and unyielding.

Benedict’s stare was so cold and sharp, it was obvious, if Hannah didn’t give him a straight answer, she wouldn’t be walking out of the Croft residence tonight.

“I told Mrs. Pamela Croft to stop her meds for a week so her body could clear out all those hormones she’s been taking and give her organs a break,” Hannah said, her voice steady.

She went on, “She’s off the meds, but her hormone levels are actually rising instead of dropping. That means someone’s been secretly injecting her with hormone drugs.

“It’s the overdose of hormones that’s causing inflammation deep in her knees, making them swell up and fill with fluid. This has nothing to do with stopping the medication.”

“Is that really the case?” Benedict asked, turning to Dr. June with a look that brooked no nonsense.

Dr. June found Hannah’s explanation almost laughable.

He’d been a doctor for over thirty years and had never seen a single modern drug for rheumatoid arthritis that didn’t involve hormones.

“Hormone meds aren’t some kind of monster,” Dr. June said, keeping his voice steady. “For Mrs. Pamela Croft’s leg, hormones are necessary.

As long as the dosage is managed properly, they’re not going to hurt her, in fact, they actually help control the inflammation from her condition.”

He continued, “Her leg’s always relied on medication to keep the inflammation down. Now that she’s stopped, the inflammation came back, and because it wasn’t treated quickly, it got infected.

“The swelling and fluid buildup are pressing on her blood vessels, which is causing cell death in her leg.”.

Their diagnoses were completely at odds, and even their philosophies on medication couldn’t be more different.

Benedict’s brow furrowed. On one side was the family doctor he’d trusted for over ten years; on the other, just a teenage girl.

‘Obviously, the doctor’s word carries more weight, Benedict thought to himself.

Words made her realize things were way more complicated than what Owen

Since Wolfram was putting so much faith in her, there was no way she could let them down.

But above all, Hannah wasn’t about to let anyone frame her for this mess.

“Mr. Croft, with all due respect, has she even passed her medical licensing exam? What kind of clinical experience does she have with rheumatoid arthritis?

“You’re gambling with your mom’s life! Thanks to her, the Nameless Healer was already driven away. Are you trying to force me out too?” Dr. June snapped, his frustration barely contained.

Dr. June cited the Nameless Healer as a precedent, making his stance even more obvious.

It was a major taboo in medicine for a patient to be treated by two doctors at the same time.

If they insisted on letting Hannah touch Pamela again, Dr. June was absolutely not going to clean up her mess.

Sure enough, as soon as Dr. June threw down the gauntlet, Benedict made his decision. He turned to Teresa and asked, “Have you contacted Daisy yet?”

“Bro!” Wolfram called out, his voice urgent.

“I’ll do it right now,” Teresa replied, already turning to step out and make the call.

Hannah suddenly spoke up, her voice sharp, “Did none of you notice the needle marks on her arm?”

Everyone froze, stunned by Hannah’s words.

Flora and a couple of medical workers rushed over to check. Sure enough, there were a few faint needle marks on Pamela’s elbow and forearm. Some had already scabbed over, so indistinct that they were scarcely visible without a close inspection.

“How is this possible? Mrs. Pamela Croft hasn’t been on any meds or had any treatments recently, so why are there needle marks?” Flora gasped, her voice shaking with disbelief.

Flora was Pamela’s personal maid, she was with her almost every moment, except when eating or sleeping herself. So how did those needle marks show up out of nowhere?

“The injection was expertly done, no bruising whatsoever. It’s no wonder no one noticed unless they were really looking,” Hannah said calmly,

“Expertly done”, those words made everyone in the Croft family immediately turn their eyes to Dr. June.

Other than Flora, he was the one who spent the most time in Pahela’s room.

Teresa, who was about to leave, paused mid-step and glanced back at Hannah. A sly glint flashed in her eyes, she hadn’t expected this girl to have some tricks up her sleeve.

Dr. June felt a chill run down his spine as everyone’s eyes locked onto him.

“I…” he stammered, his voice trembling.

“So this is how you repay the Croft family after all we’ve done for you, Dr. June? We treated you so well, and you turn around and do this to us?” Teresa snapped, her voice sharp with anger.

He was just about to defend himself, but Teresa cut him off before he could get a word out.

Dr. June was desperate, his voice trembling. “Teresa, I swear I’m being framed here…”

“Besides Flora, you’re the only one who’s been alone with my Mom this whole time. If it wasn’t you, then who was it?” Teresa snapped, cutting him off coldly. “Guards, take him away and investigate every detail!”

As soon as she gave the order, the bodyguards seized Dr. June on the spot.

Mavis watched as Teresa switched gears so fast, it was like she was desperate to hide something.

“Teresa, what’s the rush? At least let Dr. June finish talking,” Mavis said, her voice laced with mischief.

Teresa’s voice rang out, full of conviction. “I won’t let anyone harm Mom, not even someone who’s been with us for over a decade.”

Hannah wasn’t interested in the Croft family’s infighting. She cut in coldly, “If you actually want Mrs. Pamela Croft to live,

your squabble outside and quit interrupting me.”

“Go to the main hall,” Benedict said to Teresa, his face grim. Then he turned to Hannah. “How sure are you?”

Hannah was cool and collected, never flashy, like she had everything handled, no matter what. She was the kind of person who could really go places, and Benedict could see it in her.

No wonder Wolfram was willing to put it all on the line for her. He was ready to give Hannah a chance.

“You’d better think twice. If anything happens to Mrs. Pamela Croft, your head’s on the line,” Benedict warned, his voice cold as ice.

Hannah just stared back, speechless.

‘Are they seriously going to behead me over this?’ she thought, a touch of sarcasm in her mind.

“I never second-guess myself when I’m treating someone,” Hannah replied, her voice calm and resolute.

“Good!” Benedict said, clearly impressed by her confidence.

‘She’d better prove she’s got the skills to match that bold talk, or she won’t be leaving the Croft residence on her own two feet,’ he thought to himself.

Benedict led everyone out of Pamela’s room, leaving Hannah alone with two medical staff. They were supposed to be her assistants, but they were there to keep an eye on her.

Hannah didn’t care. She just opened up her acupuncture kit and got to work.

Three hours later.

Hannah packed up her acupuncture kit, barely glancing at the two medical staff who were still in shock, and headed out of

Pamela’s room without another word.

As soon as she stepped out, the butler waiting outside immediately spoke up.

“Ms. Carter, you must be exhausted. Why not stay at the Croft residence tonight?”
