Hannah glanced at the six bodyguards in black suits and sunglasses stationed outside the hallway. She knew she had no choice but to comply.
Until Pamela woke up, the Croft family was going to keep her on lockdown. If anything happened to Pamela, they’d pin it all on her in a heartbeat.
“Get me a set of clean clothes,” she said.
She was a bit tired after just finishing a surgery and wanted to take a shower.
“Yes, this way, please,” the butler said respectfully, leading Hannah.
Meanwhile, over in the main hall, Benedict and the others got the news and hurried back to Pamela’s room, only to find that Dr. June was nowhere to be seen.
When they saw that Pamela’s swollen knees had gone down and her legs looked perfectly fine, everyone finally relaxed. Even though she was still unconscious, even in her sleep, she looked much healthier than before.
According to what Dr. June had said earlier, there was no hope for Pamela’s legs.
If Dr. June were still here, he’d be shouting “Miracle!” and swallowing his pride to apologize to Hannah, begging her to tell him how she pulled it off. But he was already locked away in a small room, so he didn’t get the chance.
“What did Hannah say?” Benedict asked the two medical staff nearby.
“Ms. Carter said Mrs. Pamela Croft will wake up tomorrow. We should let her rest and not bother her until then,” one of the medical staff replied.
“Okay, everyone else out. You two stay here with Flora and keep an eye on my mom,” Benedict said with a nod.
As Teresa was leaving, she glanced again at Pamela’s sleeping face, a hint of gloom in her eyes. Who would’ve thought that girl actually had real medical skills?
Daisy had treated Pamela before, but it never had such an effect. Hannah spent just three hours, and Pamela looked so much better right away.
Mavis was just as surprised that Hannah really knew medicine. She liked Hannah even more now, Wolfram had been smart to vouch for her.
She needed to bring Hannah into her side.
At Scott Villa.
Cici hung up the phone and walked over to Aurelia, who was sitting in the living room. “Mrs. Scott, I just got a call from the Croft family’s butler. He said Ms. Carter will be staying at their place tonight and won’t be coming home.”
Aurelia’s brows furrowed at the news.
She saw Owen drop by for Hannah that afternoon, and watched them leave together.
Last time Hannah came home in the middle of the night, she looked so down. Now she’s staying over at the Croft family’s place again. ‘Could she really have split up with Barnaby and already started getting close to Owen?’ Aurelia thought.
‘Hannah always seems so sharp, but when it comes to the big stuff, she’s so clueless,’ Aurelia grumbled to herself.

Chapter 181
Why would she pass up Barnaby and go messing around with Owen instead?’ Aurelia wondered.

“The Croft family is run by Benedict now. If Hannah marries Owen, she’ll always have to keep her head down, how could that ever compare to being with Barnaby, who’s set to take over the Thole family?’
“How can she be so shameless, just staying over at other people’s houses like it’s no big deal?” Before Aurelia could say anything else, Lucian, sprawled on the couch playing games, piped up.
Cici was at a loss for words.
‘Ms. Carter crashes at Mr. Thole’s place all the time. Why don’t you ever complain about that?’ Cici thought.
Lucian just got killed in his game, so he angrily tossed his ultra-rare, limited-edition console aside and started ranting under his breath.
“You haven’t seen all the gossip blowing up on the school forums? They’re saying the Croft family and the Scott family are about to get hitched! And now she’s crashing at their place again?
“Barnaby’s just gonna sit back and let her walk all over him? Dude’s getting played and doesn’t even care,” Lucian muttered.
Aurelia nodded. “So you think your sister and Barnaby make a better couple, huh?”
“No way!” Lucian shot back, stubborn as ever. “He’s just loaded, that’s all.”
Aurelia picked up the console he’d tossed and held it out to him. “Take a look at this game and say that again.”
It was that one-of-a-kind console Barnaby had given him last time, the kind that was impossible to obtain anywhere, regardless of wealth or influence.
Lucian just stared, speechless.
Since he owed Barnaby for the gift, he had to swallow his pride and grumble, “Alright, he’s only a little better than that phony genius from the Croft family.”
Word was, Owen’s whole ‘top student’ act was just him cheating his way through, so Lucian called him a phony genius.
If he really had to pick between Barnaby and Owen as his future brother-in-law, he’d definitely go with Barnaby.
At least Barnaby was good-looking and loaded.
“That’s a whole different league. Who knows if Owen will ever run the Croft family? But Barnaby’s definitely gonna be the head of the Thole family.
If he becomes your brother-in-law, he’ll buy you anything you want. Heck, your sister could end up owning the whole Thole family someday,” Aurelia broke it down for him.
Lucian thought about it and realized she had a point. He grabbed his phone, headed back to his room, and shot Barnaby a
text.
In the Croft family guest room, Hannah was taking a shower while her phone was blowing up outside the bathroom. She didn’t rush, finished her shower, wrapped herself in a towel, and walked out.
The calls had finally stopped, but her screen showed ten missed calls, all from Barnaby,
She was just about to call him back when her phone started ringing again.
Hannah picked up, sounding casual as always. “Hey, Barnaby? What’s up?”

Marnaby was quiet for a moment before finally saying, “So you finally answered
7 was just in the shower, Hannah replied, using one hand to towel off her damp hair. Not hearing a response, she glanced at her phone and waleed held abroady hung up
Her phone imeshately hit up with a WhatsApp video call from Barnaby
Hannah just stared at her phone, speechless
Barnaby face appeared on the screen, all sharp angles and good looks. The moment the call connected, he demanded, “Show me where you’ve showering
The background showest an old-school corridor Hannah recognized it right away, it was the hallway in the courtyard of Thole Manor
When she was a kid, her adoptive mom used to bring her here to play, telling her all kinds of stories about the carvings along the corridor.
Those distant memories hit her out of nowhere, and Hannah zoned out for a second, totally oblivious to the fact that her phone camera was giving Barnaby a screen full of steamy towel action.
Her curves were barely contained by the towel, practically overflowing his screen….
Barnaby felt his throat go dry. He coughed and teased, “Baby, are you trying to seduce me?”
Hannah snapped out of it, realized she was showing way too much, and quickly shifted her phone to just show her face.
Barnaby let out a low laugh, but when he saw the unfamiliar background, his smile faded. “You’re not at the Scott place, are
you?
“Yeah, I’m at the Croft family’s place. Just did a quick surgery on Mrs. Pamela Croft and got pretty dirty, so I hopped in the shower, Hannah replied.
“You staying there tonight?” Barnaby asked.
Hannah blinked, caught off guard. How does he know?’ she thought.
But she wasn’t about to give him the full story. She just answered calmly, “Yeah, Mrs. Pamela Croft just got through the worst of it. I’m staying here until she wakes up and I know she’s fine, then I’ll go home.
“Show me the guest room at the Croft family’s place,” Barnaby said out of nowhere.
Hannah found it kind of random, but she switched to the rear camera and panned it around the room.
Seeing that Hannah was alone, with no random dude hanging around, Barnaby let out a breath of relief.
“Barnaby, you’ve been waiting for me, right? Let’s go!” came a gentle, sweet female voice from Barnaby’s side.
