Chapter 183
Chapter 183
Hannah froze for a second, her eyes strangely calm. She asked, “Who are you?”
Suddenly, there was nothing but silence. Hannah glanced at her phone, the caller had hung up.
She stared at the screen, her gaze unsettlingly calm, and even the air in the room felt a little colder.
On the other side, Daisy heard the water in the bathroom shut off, followed by the sound of the door opening. She quickly hung up the phone.
“Who said you could touch my phone?” Barnaby’s voice was icy.
A sudden chill swept over Daisy as she turned around. Barnaby stood there, wrapped in a bathrobe, his hair dripping wet, radiating a bone-chilling aura.
Unlike usual, his cheeks were oddly flushed, a telltale sign of a lust-inducing drug.
“Barnaby, please…” Daisy’s voice trembled.
“Get out!” Barnaby snatched his phone back and stepped away from her. His eyes were sharp and menacing, like he’d snap if she took another step.
Daisy swallowed hard, glancing at the door with an innocent expression. “The door… it’s locked from the outside.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Barnaby’s face darkened, and the temperature in the room dropped several degrees.
Tonight’s dinner had been set up by Iris at Edmund’s request, and even Esther was there. Barnaby had no way out of it.
He thought it was just a regular meal, but he never expected someone would drug his food.
Now Daisy was locked in his room. The intention couldn’t be clearer, they wanted to force them to spend the night together and make the marriage a done deal.
‘The Thole family, head of the four great families, actually resorting to such low tactics!’ Barnaby fumed, his anger barely contained.
“I’m sorry, I really had no idea things would end up like this,” Daisy said, her brows knitting together, looking genuinely innocent.
She went on, “I mean, yeah, I do like you, but I’d never try to make someone do something they don’t want to. What they did is just way too much.”
Then, almost stumbling over her words, she quickly added, “But don’t be mad at them, okay? They just wanted the best for you.”
Barnaby ignored her completely. He glanced at his call log, and when he saw the first entry was “Baby,” his brows furrowed, his eyes turning even more sinister.
Seeing he wasn’t paying attention, Daisy tried again. “The medicine in your system can still be neutralized. Let me help you, okay?”
As she spoke, she kept inching closer to Barnaby,
She never liked making anyone do something they didn’t want to, and her mom always told her a girl should play hard to
get.

Chapter 183
But after six years of keeping her distance, what did she get in return?

Barnaby was hooking up with other women in hotels, having moonlit dates with them like she didn’t even exist.
Now that the opportunity was right in front of her, she wasn’t about to play coy anymore.
Even if Barnaby didn’t care about her now, if she ended up carrying his child, she’d be the official seventh lady of the Thole family.
As long as she became the seventh lady of the Thole family, she’d have all the time in the world to make Barnaby fall for her.
The sweet scent coming off Daisy made it hard for Barnaby to keep his cool.
“Don’t come any closer!” Barnaby warned, his eyes blazing red.
He gripped his phone, headed straight for the bathroom, and slammed the door, locking it tight behind him.
When Daisy heard the lock click, her face went pale and she froze in place.
‘He’d rather take a cold shower than even touch me. Does he really hate me that much?’ Daisy thought, her heart sinking.
In the bathroom, Barnaby cranked the shower on full blast, letting ice-cold water crash down over him. The chill bit into his skin, numbing some of the restless energy, but it couldn’t wash away the fever burning in his veins.
After a full thirty minutes, he finally turned off the shower, snatched up his phone, and opened WhatsApp.
Hannah had been zoning out in bed for half an hour, just staring at the ceiling with a blank face, when suddenly her phone chimed, a WhatsApp video call.
She checked her phone. It was Barnaby calling.
She sat up, and the moment the call connected, Barnaby’s ridiculously handsome, wet face was all she could see, so good- looking it was almost unfair.
His lips were flushed, so luscious it made her want to bite them.
Hannah’s breath hitched, but the memory of that call from half an hour ago made her eyes go cold again.
Barnaby stared at the screen, seeing Hannah’s blank expression and cold, distant look. He knew she must have gotten the wrong idea.
“Baby… I got set up…” Barnaby said.
His voice was hoarse, with a slight tremor from the cold as his lips moved,
Hannah blinked, her eyelashes trembling as she stared at Barnaby on the screen, not saying a word.
“I’ve been taking a cold shower for almost an hour, but the drug still isn’t wearing off. Is there anything you can do to help? She’s still outside,” Barnaby said.
He made it crystal clear, he’d rather freeze himself in the shower for an hour than lay a finger on the woman waiting outside.
Hannah felt the knot in her chest loosen all at once.
“Isn’t that kind of embarrassing for her?” she teased.
“Why should I care if she loses face?” Barnaby replied, his voice rough.

To him, Daisy was just another woman trying to get into his bed by drugging him. If his staff hadn’t been sent off, she wouldn’t even be in his room right now.
Hearing how heartless he sounded, Hannah was convinced he was telling the truth.
“If even that didn’t work, this drug must be seriously strong. You need an antidote, and fast,” she said.
If she was actually there, she might’ve been able to do something, but with more than two hundred miles between them, there was no way she could make it in time.
“So that’s it? There’s really nothing else we can do?” Barnaby asked.
Hannah’s eyes lingered on his face in the video.
“Yeah,” she said softly.
“Looks like you’ll have to take care of it yourself.”
Barnaby was quiet for a moment. He set his phone down, fixed the angle, and looked at Hannah on the screen. “Lower your camera.”
“You…” It hit Hannah what he was asking, and her cheeks instantly heated up, but she still did as he asked…
The next morning, Hannah was woken up by a knock at the door.
She realized she must have dozed off at some point last night, her phone lying dead on the nightstand, having automatically shut off when the battery ran out.
Just thinking about the things they did over video last night made her cheeks heat up all over again.
The knocking continued, so Hannah quickly composed herself and went to open the door.
It was Flora.
“Ms. Carter, Mrs. Pamela Croft is awake. Could you please come over and check on her?” Flora said, her voice full of excitement
Hannah yawned lazily and looked toward the doorway.
The bodyguards who’d been standing watch last night were gone. Looks like the Crofts weren’t keeping her locked up
anymore.
“Oh,” Hannah said, not rushing at all, she just washed up, got dressed, and then followed Flora to Pamela’s room.
Inside the room, Mavis and Teresa were already there, fussing over Pamela, each trying to outdo the other as the perfect daughter-in-law.
As soon as Hannah walked in, Teresa jumped up and came over with a big smile. “Ms. Carter, did you sleep well last night?”
