The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 19

Chapter 19

Hannah tilted her head slightly. The ashtray skimmed past her ear, hit the floor with a loud crack, and shattered into pieces.

Felicity flinched, throwing Hannah a worried glance.

Only after seeing that Hannah was unharmed did she plead with Dorian. “Dorian, calm down. If you have something to say, talk it out. Don’t hit Hannah.”

“Move.” Dorian kicked Felicity aside. “If I don’t beat her today, she’ll forget who her father is.”

He grabbed the belt he had prepared and cracked it down on the carpet near Hannah’s feet. “Come here.”

Hannah glanced at Felicity, who had been kicked aside and hit the corner of the coffee table, her brows tightening just slightly.

“Dad, please calm down.” Susie stepped forward to soothe him, then turned to Hannah, pretending to be helpful. “Hannah, just apologize to Dad.

“I’m sure you didn’t skip the exam on purpose. If you explain yourself properly, he’ll forgive you.”

“Who said I skipped the exam?” Hannah shot back.

Her tone was icy, and her cold gaze slid off Dorian and landed on Susie.

Susie felt something tighten in her chest under that chill, inexplicable pressure.

But she thought, ‘She’s just some stray girl from the slum. What is there to be afraid of? She must be faking it!

“If you didn’t skip it, why did you hang up and turn off your phone? I couldn’t reach you all afternoon.”

Upon thinking of the moment she hung up on him earlier, Dorian’s rage surged, and he lifted the belt to strike her.

Hannah had just raised her hand to catch the belt when a figure suddenly lunged forward, shielding her.

Felicity took the lash herself. Pain twisted her brows, but she didn’t cry out. Instead, she asked anxiously, “Hannah, are you alright?”

Hannah steadied the wobbling Felicity. Something deep inside her shifted.

Ever since her adoptive mother passed away, she had locked her heart away and met the world with indifference.

And besides Grandma, no one else had ever protected her like this.

“Dorian, don’t hit Hannah. I’ll take her punishment.” Felicity stood in front of Hannah, pleading.

Dorian hadn’t expected Felicity to block the belt for her. For a moment, he actually regretted swinging it.

‘I have to teach Hannah a lesson today. Otherwise, I’ll lose my authority as head of this family, he thought.

“Move. Or I’ll punish you too,” he barked.

Susie hadn’t expected Felicity to defend Hannah so fiercely. Jealousy twisted inside her.

Even if Felicity held a low position in the Scott family, she was still Dorian’s wife.

And Susie refused to see anyone in the Scott family treat Hannah well. In her mind, all of this should have belonged to her.

“Hannah, at this point, stop lying,” Susie urged with feigned kindness. “Ms. Miller couldn’t find you at the testing site, so she contacted Dad.

“The school forum is full of posts about it. The backlash is huge. This is terrible for the Scott family’s reputation. Just tell the truth so Dad can figure out how to handle this.”

She sounded patient and sincere, but every word she said was meant to remind Dorian.

The rumor about Hannah skipping the exam had already gone viral on Cavalor School’s forum, and everyone was cursing the Scott family and Hannah.

If nothing changed, by tomorrow, the entire city of Brynlock might know that the Scott family’s adopted daughter had skipped her exam.

Dorian treasured his reputation above all else. Nothing infuriated him more than someone bringing shame to the Scott family.

“I knew it. You’re trying to disgrace the Scott family.” Dorian raised the belt again.

Felicity tried to shield Hannah, but Hannah stopped her.

Hannah lifted her left hand and caught the belt mid-swing. “Once the scores come out tomorrow, the rumors will die on their own.”

“Easy for you to say. But why did you skip the exam?” Dorian thundered. “Tomorrow morning, you’re coming with me to Cavalor to apologize to the school properly.”

Hannah thought, ‘How many times do I have to repeat myself? I didn’t skip anything.’

Dorian turned to Susie and said gently, “Susie, contact Mr. Baker and ask him to speak with the school. Have their publicity office delete those posts.”

Jasper Baker was Susie’s fiancé.

His mother came from a branch of one of the four major families, the Thole family.

Thus, the Baker family held considerable status in Brynlock.

If Jasper stepped in, the school’s publicity office wouldn’t dare refuse.

“Yes, Dad.” On the surface, Susie looked obedient. Inside, she was smiling wickedly.

‘Tomorrow, Hannah’s reputation will be ruined. She’ll never have an easy time in Brynlock again,’ she wondered. ‘And the Scott family, obsessed with their image, will never consider her as the heiress.

The next morning, Dorian followed Susie to Jett’s office.

Inside, Jett and Lyra were already waiting.

“Dad, this is the director, Mr. Drumm. And this is Ms. Miller, my teacher this semester,” Susie introduced.

“Mr. Drumm, I’ve heard so much about you.” Dorian greeted him with an easy, practiced smile and reached out for a handshake.

“Hello,” Jett replied warmly, shaking his hand. “So you’re Susie’s guardian, Hannah’s legal guardian, right?”

Dorian instantly understood.

This was all arranged by Jasper.

With his other hand, he reached into his slacks, pulled out a gift, and pressed it into Jett’s palm. “Mr. Drumm, I’m truly sorry.

“Hannah acted out of line and caused unnecessary trouble for your school. I hope you can overlook it.”

The moment Jett felt the gift, he immediately knew what was going on.

Plenty of parents tried to slip teachers gifts, hoping for extra attention for their kids.

But at Cavalor School, accepting any form of bribery was strictly forbidden, especially when the student in question was someone Wolfram Croft paid close attention to.

“Sir, bribery is illegal,” Jett said sternly as he pushed the gift back.

Dorian didn’t expect him to refuse. The gift slipped from his hand and dropped to the floor with a solid thud. Even from the sound alone, it was obvious how hefty it was.

That thud instantly drew everyone’s attention.

Heat surged up Dorian’s face.

His reputation meant everything to him.

In that moment, it felt like someone had slapped him hard across the cheek, burning, stinging, and humiliating.

His gaze snapped to Susie, filled with blame and anger. ‘Didn’t you say Jasper had everything arranged?’ he wondered.

Susie flinched under his stare. ‘Why isn’t this going the way we planned?’ she thought.

“Quite the gathering in here.” A calm voice sounded from the doorway.

Hannah strolled in with complete composure.
