The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 199

Chapter 199

Barnaby had no clue what Hannah was up to this time, but if she wanted to mess around, he’d go along with her.

The next day,

Barnaby said he had work to handle and left for Brynlock early in the morning. The two planned to meet up that evening at the Scepter House auction.

At seven that evening, Hannah wrapped up with her last patient at the clinic, dropped her grandma and Chloe off at their apartment complex, then had Joe drive her over to the Scepter House.

As they got close to the Scepter House, Joe saw the road jammed with luxury cars, barely moving. The parking lot was still a bit of a walk from the auction entrance.

He glanced back at Hannah in the rear seat and said, “I’ll wait for you in the parking lot. When the auction’s done, just give me a call and I’ll swing the car around.”

Hannah saw the cars inching along the roundabout up ahead and said, “Just let me out here. No need to wait for me, head on

home.”

“Alright. If you need anything, just call me,” Joe said as he pulled over.

Hannah nodded, hopped out, and started walking toward the auction entrance.

Just like before, the security guard checked her invitation at the entrance, then a hostess in an elegant clothing led Hannah toward the auction hall.

While she was waiting for the elevator, a gentle, unhurried female voice called out from behind her.

“Ms. Carter? It really is you. Why are you here all alone? Did Barnaby not come with you?”

Hannah recognized the voice and turned around to see another hostess leading Daisy over, with an assistant following close behind.

“Are we that close?” Hannah replied, her expression icy and her tone flat.

“Who said we’re friends? What my lady means is, if you’re not here with Barnaby, then why are you even here? Does the Scott family even qualify to be at the Scepter House auction?” the assistant snapped, her words quick and biting.

She shot Hannah a look and added, “Don’t tell me you swiped Barnaby’s invitation just to sneak in. Even if you did get inside, do you really think you can afford anything here? Didn’t the Scott family go broke ages ago…”

“Julie, don’t talk nonsense,” Daisy said, her tone tinged with teasing reproach.

Then she turned to Hannah with a polite smile and said, “Ms. Carter, I apologize. My assistant can be a bit thoughtless sometimes. She didn’t mean anything by it, she was just curious about what brings you here.”

Hannah didn’t qualify for an invitation to the Scepter House auction, so she just used Candy’s card instead.

But seriously, what business was that of Daisy’s?

Hannah shot back, “You actually keep an idiot like this around? People who know you might say you’re just being charitable, but anyone else would think you’re up to something.”

Daisy was momentarily at a loss for words, but she kept her smile plastered on.

“You…” Julie was about to demand who Hannah was calling an idiot, but Daisy quickly grabbed her arm to stop her.

Everyone here was either rich or powerful, if things got ugly, it’d be a real scene.

Just then, the elevator doors slid open. Hannah stepped inside, shot Daisy a mocking smile, and said, “Ms. Reese, how come you’re not rocking your Nameless Healer look tonight?”

Daisy visibly startled, her eyes fixed on Hannah.

In those gorgeous peach blossom eyes, there was a chilly, teasing glint, like Hannah had already seen right through her.

Daisy was still standing there, stunned, even as the elevator doors closed.

“Daisy, you’re way too soft. You let girls like her stomp all over you,” Julie complained, her voice full of frustration.

When Daisy didn’t answer, Julie glanced back and saw her totally zoned out. She gave Daisy a little nudge. “Hey, Daisy, you okay?”

Daisy snapped out of it. “I’m fine.”

She wandered into another elevator, clearly distracted.

Julie was left scratching her head. Something was definitely off with Daisy, but she couldn’t figure out what.

To anyone else, Hannah’s words would’ve sounded totally normal, but for Daisy, with secrets to hide, it hit her like a bolt from the blue.

‘How come you’re not rocking your Nameless Healer look tonight?’ Daisy echoed the words in her mind, unsettled.

‘Did she just hint at something?’ Daisy’s heart skipped a beat.

But Daisy quickly shook off the suspicion. She’d been playing the Nameless Healer for so long, and the real deal had never shown up to call her out. No way Hannah could know the truth. She was just letting her imagination run wild.

Once Daisy had calmed herself down, the elevator doors slid open on the sixth floor.

As she walked past the Thole family’s regular suite, Room 666, she didn’t see Barnaby or Hannah around.

She turned to the attendant and said, “The Scepter House auction is known for its strict rules. Please make sure to verify every guest’s credentials, we can’t have anyone messing with the rules.”

That “someone” was obviously Hannah.

“Yes, ma’am,” the attendant replied.

With Candy’s invitation card, Hannah was only allowed in the gallery on the fourth floor.

Once the attendant left, she shot a WhatsApp message to the The Scepter House’s Master.

The Nameless Healer: [I’ll come find you on the seventh floor at 8:30.]

After that, she called Barnaby up.

“Hey Barnaby, you here yet?” Hannah asked.

At that moment, Barnaby was sitting in the office, phone in hand, staring at his WhatsApp conversation with the Nameless Healer on his computer.

“Where are you? I’ll come find you,” he said.

“Auction Room 404,” Hannah replied, giving him the room number.

Ten minutes later, there was a knock at the door of Room 404. Hannah opened it, saw Barnaby, and quickly waved him inside.

“What’s with all the secrecy? Who are you meeting?” Barnaby asked, pretending to be clueless.

“Someone from the seventh floor,” Hannah said, pointing upward.

Barnaby feigned surprise. “Wait, you know the Master?”

“Just happened to meet him,” Hannah said, keeping it vague. “He seems pretty interested in you. You guys should talk later, the Scepter House is a big deal, so see if you can make friends with him.”

Barnaby didn’t know what to say.

‘Is she really making me play both roles here?’ Barnaby thought, feeling a bit helpless.

“Alright,” Barnaby replied.

Just then, the auction officially kicked off.

Hannah looked over at the seventh floor, but nothing seemed to be happening up there. It looked like the Master hadn’t shown up yet.

She turned away from Barnaby and quickly checked her phone, finally saw his reply.

The Scepter House’s Master: [Come to my office.]

Hannah remembered that private suite, the Celestium Pavilion, she’d visited last time.

‘Figures, he’s got some weird quirks,’ Hannah thought to herself.

She put her phone away, turned back to Barnaby, and couldn’t help sizing up his physique. ‘If the Master really tries anything out of line, Barnaby should be able to get out of there in one piece,’ she thought.

“Appreciate it, Barnaby,” Hannah said.

‘What’s that supposed to mean?’ Barnaby wondered.

“Let’s go. We’re heading over to see him now,” Hannah said, handing Barnaby a mask and putting one on herself.

The two of them left the auction hall and made their way to the Celestium Pavilion.

Maybe it was because of the auction going on, but there wasn’t a single/staff member in sight the entire walk over.

After making their way through the hallway, they saw the Celestium/Pavilion up ahead. The doors were closed, lights were on inside, and not a soul was around.

Hannah suddenly came to a halt, holding her stomach.

Barnaby glanced over and asked, “You okay?”

“My stomach’s not feeling great. You go ahead and just say we set this up on WhatsApp. I’ll hit the restroom and be right back,” Hannah said.

Before Barnaby could respond, Hannah hurried off in the other direction.

She was confident Barnaby could handle whatever was coming his way, she’d fill him in on her real plans later.

As for the Master, the whole thing about the gender and physique not matching up from last time? Not her problem, Hannah wasn’t about to worry about that.

All she needed was for Barnaby to stall the Master and buy her a little time.

She had her own business to deal with.
