Chapter 206 The Medicine Released
Chapter 206 The Medicine Released
At the Reese family estate, Daisy was in her study, poring over a medical book.
There was a knock at the door, and Agnes came in.
“Daisy, when will our miracle drug finally hit the market?” Agnes asked.
Daisy looked up and was startled by how Agnes looked.
It had only been half a month since Daisy last saw her, but Agnes’s high cheekbones and thin frame seemed even more pronounced now.
The dark circles under her eyes were severe, her whole face looked exhausted and worn out, and her hair was much thinner than before. She looked a little scary now.
“The medicine’s already been sent to the Drug Administration for approval. Once it gets the green light, we can put it on the market,” Daisy replied with a smile.
Ever since Marcus announced that the miracle drug was about to hit the market, Reese Medical’s stock had skyrocketed. Every day, countless people flocked to the hospital and pharmaceutical companies, desperate to get their hands on the medicine.
Even Agnes, who was supposed to be on vacation, couldn’t help but come and ask about it. That just showed how much buzz this miracle drug was getting.
“Daisy, do you still have any samples of the miracle drug? Could you give me some more?” Agnes pleaded.
Lately, she had no idea what was going on with her body. If she missed even a single day without Daisy’s miracle drug, she felt restless and uncomfortable all over, unable to focus on work.
She’d taken half a month off to rest, but nothing helped. She was constantly craving Daisy’s medicine.
Daisy noticed the desperate look in Agnes’s eyes, opened her drawer, and tossed her a bottle.
Agnes caught it like a dog catching a frisbee, over the moon. “Thank you, Daisy! Thank you!”
She opened the bottle right then and there, her hands trembling uncontrollably, whether from excitement or desperation, it was hard to tell. Pills scattered everywhere, but she immediately crouched down, snatched one up, and stuffed it into her mouth like a starving beggar finally getting a meal.
Daisy’s brows knitted together. “Go on,” she said, her voice tight with impatience.
“Yes, yes, of course!” Agnes hurriedly swept up all the pills from the floor and rushed out, so flustered she nearly ran straight into Julie, who was just coming in.
Julie was taken aback by how Agnes looked. She stepped into the study and asked, “Daisy, what’s up with Agnes? Is she hooked on something?”
Daisy just frowned harder, looking lost and distracted, her gaze wandering.
Julie tried again, “Daisy?”
Daisy blinked and came back to herself. “What is it?”
Julie thought Daisy had been acting strange lately, sometimes she’d just space out for no reason, and other times she’d smile in a way that sent chills down your spine.
She placed an invitation on Daisy’s desk.
“Daisy, this is from Mr. Whitmore. The Association of Traditional Medicine is holding a seminar on the Thirteen Phantasmagoria Needles in Kinswood at the end of the month, and they’ve invited you to be the main speaker.
“I already accepted on your behalf and put it on your schedule,” Julie explained.
“Who told you to say yes for me?!” Daisy snapped, her voice suddenly sharp and cutting.
Julie jumped, startled by Daisy’s outburst.
Julie quickly explained, “Look, the Association of Traditional Medicine is a big deal in the medical world.
“The Reese family’s always been all about modern medicine, so we barely know anyone in traditional medicine.
“With the miracle drug about to launch, this is the perfect chance to network with some folks in that field and get our miracle drug recognized by the traditional medicine ctroed

“Decline it for me. I’ve got personal matters that dayan wont be able to attend,” Daisy said, her tone firm.
She’d only scratched the surface of the Thirteen Phantasmagoria Needles. If she had to give an in-depth talk in front of all

those traditional medicine experts, she’d be found out for sure.
‘But I heard that if you don’t go, they’ll just invite Ms. Carter, the Miracle Doctor, instead. Word is, she’s got the Thirteen Phantasmagoria Needles down too, Julle sald, her voice full of concern.
She kept trying to convince Daisy. “Ever since Ms. Carter’s clinic opened, she’s been poaching a ton of our VIP patients. If this keeps up, her clinic is going to outshine the Reese family in Kinswood.”
“The Reese family has a hundred years of medical legacy and reputation. How could a brand-new clinic ever measure up? She’s just enjoying her moment in the spotlight,” Daisy scoffed.
Daisy’s retort left Julie speechless for a moment. She was starting to realize she didn’t really know Daisy anymore.
‘Why would she skip out on such a golden opportunity and just let the other side have it for free? Seriously, what is she thinking?’ Julie wondered.
“Oh, and by the way, the person Barnaby took out of the Nocturne Grand that night ended up at Ms. Carter’s clinic. It might’ ve been Hannah,” Julie added.
‘Hannah?’ Daisy thought, her mind reeling.
‘It really was her?!’ Daisy’s heart skipped a beat.
Under the desk, Daisy clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms, but she didn’t even feel the pain.
She forced herself to keep up her usual smile and said, “I see.”
“Besides, Ms. Carter’s a real respected figure in traditional medicine. What we do as doctors shouldn’t be about showing off. It’s about helping people.
“So let’s drop the whole rivalry thing. If she can help patients we couldn’t, that just means we should learn from her,” Daisy said softly.
Julie couldn’t help but sigh, “Daisy, you really are too kind. You’re like an angel walking among us.”
Daisy smiled. “Alright, you can go now. I’ll get back to my reading.”
“Okay,” Chloe replied.
As soon as Julie left, Daisy’s smile vanished completely.
She hadn’t finished what she really wanted to say. If the patient got better, it was all thanks to the doctor’s skill. But if they didn’t, people would just say the patient was desperate and went to the wrong place, or blame the doctor for being useless.

Leila had been in Kinswood for two days, and on Sunday evening, the driver picked her up to take her back to Brynlock. She had school on Monday.
Hannah’s classes didn’t start until the second half of the year, so she’d just planned to put on a show and pretend to study for a bit over the weekend, then wait until Monday when Barnaby went to work so she could finally drop the act.
But Barnaby was way too enthusiastic. He insisted that mornings were the best time for memorizing things, so he woke her up at six.
Hannah was always grumpy when she first woke up, but with Barnaby showering her with kisses, even her worst morning mood was quickly worn down.
If she didn’t get up, things were about to get out of hand, so she had no choice but to drag herself out of bed and spend an hour reading with him.
Ronin showed up at 7:30 with breakfast, only to find Boss and Hannah both totally absorbed in their books. He couldn’t help but stare, since when did these two get so studious?
‘Is Boss trying to unlock some new skill or what?’ Ronin wondered.
He set down the breakfast box and peeked at what they were reading-a basic intro to computer programming languages.
Ronin was speechless.
‘Boss, you’re literally a top-tier hacker. Do you seriously need to read this beginner stuff?’ Ronin thought, completely dumbfounded.
After breakfast, Barnaby headed off to work.
Hannah headed to the south annex to open up the clinic for the day, and right as she did, Chloe called to say Evelyn had caught a chill last night and came down with a cold today.
Hannah told her grandma to stay home and take it easy. She’d be seeing patients herself today.

The clinic capped its daily appointments at just ten patients, so with two nurses who knew a bit about traditional medicine, a cleaner, plus Chloe and her brother pitching in, it was a pretty chill setup, nobody ever got swamped.
It wasn’t until ten o’clock that the first patient finally showed up.
She was a well-dressed woman in her fifties, draped in a mink coat and pearls, cradling a massive American bully in her
arms.
She’d been recommended to come here. Everyone said Ms. Carter was a miracle worker, and since she only took ten patients a day, it had taken her ages to snag an appointment. She just wanted to see for herself if all the hype was real.
As soon as she walked in, she spotted a girl who looked about seventeen or eighteen. She was dressed in a white winter dress that made her skin look almost luminous, her long black hair loosely braided into an intricate centipede braid.
There was a cool, aloof vibe about her. She looked like a goddess who’d just descended to earth.
The woman let out a mocking laugh. ‘Hiring a nurse this pretty? Is this clinic really legit, or are they just using the whole medical thing as a cover for something sketchy?’ she thought.
She strutted up to the reception desk, and when she didn’t see a doctor, she called out loudly, “Where’s the doctor? Why isn’ t she here?”
