Chapter 209 Play With Fools
Chapter 209 Play With Fools
Christopher watched Hannah’s side profile as she worked with her needles, her beauty was simply breathtaking.
He was obsessed with this kind of ice-cold, untouchable beauty. Women like her always stirred up a man’s urge to conquer. He’d dated plenty of so-called pure girls before, but not a single one could hold a candle to Hannah.
She always wore that frosty, distant expression, radiating an aura that kept everyone at arm’s length. No matter what happened, she never lost her cool, always so self-assured, like even if the world was ending, she’d just arch an eyebrow.
The more she kept up that icy front, the more Christopher craved her. He licked his lips, imagining her broken and in tears beneath him, finally letting go of that cold pride.
Hannah sensed his gaze, picked up a needle, and gave him a cold, warning look out of the corner of her eye.
Christopher caught her frosty stare and the needle gleaming with a cold light, and suddenly a chill crept down his spine.
Half an hour later.
After Hannah finished removing the needles, Christopher was amazed to see his dad actually roll over on his own.
Not only could he roll over, but he could also sit up, his face lighting up with excitement. “Whoa, I can finally move again! Thanks a ton, young lady. What’s your name? And how are you related to the Nameless Healer?”
“I’m Hannah. The Nameless Healer is my grandmother,” Hannah replied.
“I see. Thank you so much. I’ll have someone send the payment to your clinic later. And you’re my savior, Hannah. If there’s anything I can do for you, just say the word,” Charles said with a warm smile.
Hannah carefully wiped each used needle with an alcohol swab before putting them back in her acupuncture kit, her tone was mild and even.
“It’s not really a matter of saving your life,” Hannah replied. “The problem was that the previous treatment wasn’t right, and the medicine was too strong for your body to handle. That caused inflammation where the bone spurs in your neck grew,
pressing on your nerves.
“My grandmother, the Nameless Healer, already used acupuncture to relieve the pressure before. If you’d just kept taking your medicine at the clinic on time, you wouldn’t be dealing with this now.”
Charles’s ears turned a little red. He’d thought he was pretty much back to normal after the Nameless Healer’s treatment, and since he got busy those next couple of days, he just skipped the medicine. He never thought it would end up like this.
“Yes, yes, I’ll make sure to take my medicine on time,” he said, nodding in embarrassment. Then he turned to Christopher and barked, “See? Didn’t I say the Nameless Healer is, uh, I mean, Daisy Reese isn’t nearly as skilled. Hurry up and apologize to Ms. Carter!”
He’d almost blurted out “the Nameless Healer,” but since Hannah had just told him not to get the names mixed up, he quickly corrected himself.
As for the real story, he wasn’t clueless. He understood perfectly why Hannah had stressed that point. She was basically nudging him to go and verify it for himself.
Christopher scoffed, his voice dripping with arrogance. “Not bad, I’ll give you that. Still, I didn’t do anything wrong. It’s her job anyway!”
“You little brat, is that how you talk to the person who saved your old man’s life?” Howard snatched up a pillow and hurled it at Christopher, his voice booming across the room.
Christopher dodged the pillow, and seeing how fired up his dad was now, he couldn’t help but admit Hannah was the real deal.
“Fine, fine, I’ll say sorry. Whatever,” he muttered, sounding totally casual.
Then, he ran his tongue over his lip ring and said, “Alright, here’s the deal. Before, I was just messing around with you. Maybe thinking you could have my illegitimate kid and get a slice of the Thole family fortune.
“But now that you saved my old man, I guess I’ll reluctantly let you be the future Mrs. Todd. Moved yet?”
Hannah was speechless.
Hannah finished packing up her acupuncture kit and shot him a sideways glance. “Do you know what happened to the last guy who talked to me like that?”
“Ha! You’ve got some attitude. I like that!” Chris

The Nameless Healer herself didn’t seem to have any real influence, but the grand opening of her clinic was a huge event, VIPS everywhere, the whole thing made the news, and the buzz quickly spread through high society.
Some people said it was because she’d treated all those big shots before, while others thought everyone just showed up out of respect for Barnaby Thole.
There were plenty of rumors going around that Barnaby’s car had been seen parked outside the Ms. Carter’s clinic late at night lately. No one could tell if he was there for treatment… or for a woman.
But after seeing Hannah, Christopher figured the answer was pretty obvious.
He kept up his cocky attitude. “Bet you didn’t know Barnaby Thole is about to marry Daisy Reese, huh? If you stick with him, you’ll always be second best.
“Why not come to my family and be number one? Sure, we’re not as powerful as the Thole family, but it’s way better to be the big fish in a small pond than just another face in a crowd…”
“You little punk, what kind of crap are you talking?” Charles jumped out of bed, ready to give Christopher a good kick.
But Christopher dodged easily. “I’m just telling it like it is. Everybody knows the Thole family and the Reese family are about to tie the knot. And Barnaby? He’s no angel.
“He’s supposed to be engaged, but he’s still out at bars in the middle of the night, chasing after other women. If you don’t believe me, I’ve even got a video someone posted in my feed!”
As he spoke, he whipped out his phone and pulled up the video, holding it out for Hannah to see.
As soon as the video started playing, it blared with a woman’s slurred, pissed-off voice: “Let go of me! Where are you dragging me? I told you, I have a boyfriend-”
Hannah couldn’t stand to watch another second and shut the video off with a quick flick of her hand.
Christopher didn’t notice her reaction at all. He just kept running his mouth, “See? You’re way better off with me than with that guy… Hey, where are you going?”
Hannah totally blew him off. She got Charles’s contact info and walked out, didn’t even look back.
Christopher hurried after her. “Why are you in such a hurry? Running off to get reincarnated or something?”
Hannah replied coolly, “My grandma says I can’t play with fools.”
Christopher was left speechless.

When Hannah got back to the clinic, everything was back to normal. Evelyn was busy seeing patients, and Chloe was in the north wing, brewing medicine for them.
“Hannah, you’re finally back! Are you okay? Did they do anything to you?” Joe asked, his voice full of concern as soon as he saw her.
“I’m fine, it’s all sorted,” Hannah replied. Seeing he was still worried, she added, “When the Todd family comes by to settle up, make sure you add in the price for those two rosewood chairs.”
That was when Joe finally believed she was really okay. He looked at her with admiration. “Got it.”
His heart was in his throat the moment Hannah was taken away. He couldn’t do a damn thing except beat himself up not being able to protect her.

He considered calling Barnaby, only to realize he didn’t even have the guy’s number. In the end, he could only turn to Evelyn Carter for help.
“Grandma, are you okay?” Hannah asked as she stepped into the exam room.
Evelyn had just finished with a patient. After sending them out with a nurse, she grabbed Hannah and looked her over from head to toe, only relaxing once she was sure Hannah was alright,
“It was just a little cold. I used a couple of needles on myself and I’m fine now. But you, don’t you dare pull something like that again! If anything like this happens, just call the cops, got it?” Evelyn scolded.
“The police might not be much help,” Hannah replied.
Evelyn was about to start lecturing again, but Hannah cut her off. “Relax, I’ve got this.”
“You really are something,” Evelyn said with a sigh. “Did you eat yet? Go on, there’s some braised pork I made just for you.”
“Okay,” Hannah said, grabbing the lunchbox and heading back to the west wing.
After eating, she logged into her Nameless Healer account and opened the chat window with the Master of the Scepter House. Just as she was about to type, Carolyn, the nurse, poked her head in and said.
