Chapter 210 Lying To You

Chapter 210 Lying To You

As Hannah opened the WhatsApp chat with the Master of the Scepter House, Spencer’s dangerously charming, almost ethereal face flashed through her mind. And just as she stepped outside, she bumped right into the guy himself.

He was rocking a tailored champagne suit, holding a massive bouquet of rare blue roses. Lounging against the door of his blue Bugatti Veyron parked at the main entrance, he was turning heads left and right.

“Hey, baby, long time no see. Missed me yet?” Spencer shot her a flirty wink the moment he spotted Hannah.

Hannah was speechless.

Hannah had been about to go looking for him, but he’d just shown up right in front of her.

“Let’s find somewhere to talk,” she said, walking over, popping open the passenger door, and sliding right in.

Spencer hadn’t expected her to be so direct. He opened the driver’s door and offered her the bouquet, but when Hannah didn’t take it, he didn’t miss a beat, just placed the flowers in the back, shut the door, and locked it.

“Just hopping in my car without a second thought? Aren’t you worried you might not make it out?” he teased.

He leaned over from the driver’s seat, eyeing Hannah with amusement. His hand started to reach for her, but then he paused and slowly pulled it back.

Her slender fingers held a needle, poised right under his jaw, one wrong move and he’d get pricked.

‘Damn, she’s fast, Spencer thought.

“Mr. Lynch, if you want to get your fidgeting under control, make sure to book an appointment next time,” Hannah said coolly, slipping the needle away.

Her meaning was clear: keep getting handsy, and she wouldn’t hesitate to stick that needle right into him.

‘She’s definitely a rose with thorns, Spencer thought.

He finally broke into a smile, dropping the teasing act. “Buckle up,” he reminded her.

Then he fired up the engine, hit the gas, and the car shot off into the traffic like a bullet.

Twenty minutes later, the Bugatti Veyron pulled up outside a punk-themed bar on the bar street.

The bar street was pretty dead at this hour. Spencer unlocked the door with his keys, headed straight for the bar, and started mixing drinks like he’d done it a thousand times.

Hannah scanned the room without giving anything away, then took a seat at the bar, watching as he expertly mixed drinks.

“Bloody Mary, figured it suits your icy vibe,” Spencer said, sliding the vivid red cocktail in front of her.

Hannah remembered the mess she’d made of herself last time she drank, so she pushed the glass back to him. “Juice, please.”

“What, worried I’ll spike your drink?” Spencer raised an eyebrow, then took a sip of the Bloody Mary himself, just to show he was clean.

Hannah was speechless.

“I’m allergic to alcohol,” she said, making up an excuse on the spot.

“Alright,” Spencer said, turning to grab a bottle of orange juice from the fridge, pouring it into a glass, and handing it to her. Hannah held the glass but didn’t drink, still thinking about how to bring up the Scepter House. But Spencer brought it up first.

“You really are heartless. I helped you distract the security guards that night, and you just left me hanging. They chased me for miles. I was dead tired,” he complained.

Hannah was speechless.

Hannah gave his left hand a subtle look. The jade ring he’d worn on his thumb that night was gone, and she found it odd. ‘If he really is the Master of the Scepter House, then why were their own security guys chasing after him?’ Hannah wondered.

‘But if he’s not, how did he get his hands on the Master’s jade thumb ring? Was it just some weird coincidence?’ she thought.

“Lucky for me I’ve got stamina and speed. The Successfully unlocked! aid, arching an eyebrow. “So, what do you

think? Pretty badass, right?”

“…Yeah, you’re pretty badass, Hannah said, just humoring him.

“So, wanna join my crew?” Spencer grinned at her.

He had that androgynous, almost unreal beauty, with those smoldering bedroom eyes that could flip from sweet to deadly in a heartbeat. His smile was pure charm, but Hannah knew the truth, behind that pretty face, he was hiding a blade.

“Join the Scepter House?” Hannah asked.

“Yeah!” Spencer replied.

Hannah’s eyes narrowed just a bit. “Are you the Master of the Scepter House?”

“Shh!” Spencer put a finger to his lips, dropping his voice to a secretive whisper. “Don’t go asking stuff like that. You never know when it could get you killed.”

Hannah’s brows furrowed. She’d always known the Scepter House was powerful, mysterious, and dangerous, but she never imagined it was this intense. Just asking who someone is could get you killed around here?

But then she thought about it. Even the Four Great Families had to give the Scepter House a wide berth. Maybe they really did call all the shots in this city.

And she’d been messing with their firewalls over and over. Looking back, she realized she’d been dancing on the edge of disaster every single time.

“The Scepter House is a tangled mess, but if you need something found, their resources can dig it up in a heartbeat. So, what do you say? Wanna join?” Spencer said.

He was still smiling, those crescent-moon bedroom eyes glinting with a dangerous allure. Stare at him too long and you’d be totally under his spell. Saying no to him was nearly impossible.

Hannah stared him down, not blinking. “So this is your third request, huh?”

Spencer’s eyes flashed with confusion for just a split second, but Hannah caught it right away.

‘So he’s not the Master after all, Hannah realized.

But for him to straight up try to pull her into the Scepter House like this, maybe he really was a member, or maybe he was just messing with her, trying to fish for her real identity or something.

‘Whew, that was close. I almost got played,’ Hannah thought.

Spencer was clearly way more complicated than the files said. He wasn’t just some illegitimate son the Lynch family brought back to raise as their heir.

“Nope, not interested. You said it yourself, just asking about someone’s identity could get you killed. I’m just a helpless little girl who couldn’t hurt a fly, and I value my life way too much to get mixed up with a group that dangerous,” Hannah replied, turning him down with a smile.

Spencer’s mouth twitched.

‘Helpless little girl?’ Spencer thought.

‘The same girl who can hold a needle to someone’s vital spot before you can even blink?’ he mused.

‘Afraid for her life?’ Spencer thought.

‘The same girl who sneaks into the Scepter House and causes trouble calls herself afraid for her life?’ he mused.

‘Do you even know what being “afraid for your life” means?’ he wondered.

“Don’t be so quick to turn me down. Go home and think it over,” he said, pulling up his WhatsApp QR code. “Come on, let’s be friends.”

Hannah was about to say she didn’t need to think about it, but Spencer cut in, “You should always have a backup plan. How can you be sure Barnaby isn’t lying to you?”

Hannah froze for a second, her phone halfway up, eyes locking onto the dangerously magnetic guy in front of her.

‘Who is this guy, really?’ Hannah wondered.

‘He knows way too much about me…’ she thought uneasily.

Spencer’s phone screen dimmed; he tapped it awake, flashing her a sly grin. “Add me. If you ever catch Barnaby lying to you, you’re always welcome to come find me~”

Hannah pulled up WhatsApp, used her private account to scan his QR code, and added him as a contact.

In the study, Barnaby sat in front of his computer, going through the work reports in his inbox.

Axel knocked and walked in. “Barnaby, just got word. Spencer went to the clinic to see Hannah, and the two of them headed out to his bar. They were there for about an hour.”

Barnaby’s eyes narrowed, his gaze turning cold and intense. “Got it. Keep watching them.”

“Yes, sir, Axel replied.

After Axel left, Barnaby picked up his phone and made a call, his voice icy as he warned, “Stay away from her!”
