Chapter 211 Handle it Myself

Chapter 211 Handle It Myself

Outside Ms. Carter’s clinic, Spencer sat in his car, watching as Hannah disappeared inside. With his phone pressed to his ear, Barnaby’s icy warning came through: “Stay away from her.”

“And if I don’t? What are you gonna do about it?” Spencer replied with a smirk. “She’s not your property, you know. She never belonged to you. You just happened to get there first, that’s all.”

“You’ll regret this,” Barnaby said coldly.

“Oh wow, I’m shaking in my boots~” Spencer mocked, but before he could finish, Barnaby had already hung up.

He stared at his phone screen, the smirk wiped clean from his face.

‘We’re no different. Why should you get to live better than me?’ Spencer thought, jealousy simmering inside.

He sneered.

He spun the steering wheel and headed back to the Lynch family estate.

Spencer was halfway home when his phone rang. It was his assistant.

“Elder Nine, the Master wants you to take on the Africa mission. He wants you to leave today,” the assistant said.

“Wasn’t that supposed to be Elder Ten’s job?” Spencer frowned.

‘Who the hell wants to go to Africa? That dump is usually dumped on Elder Ten, the rookie of the Ten Elders,’ Spencer thought, annoyed.

“Looks like another Elder recommended you to the Master, so he changed his mind at the last minute and decided you should go,” the assistant explained.

Spencer cursed under his breath. ‘This has got to be Barnaby’s doing.’

He knew Barnaby was high up in the Scepter House, but he had no clue which spot he held among the Ten Elders.

‘Barnaby, you bastard, taking it out on me just because you’ve got the power?’ Spencer fumed.

‘Just wait till I get back from Africa. I’ll expose who you really are, no matter what,’ he swore to himself.

That evening, Hannah perched on the desk in the study, while Barnaby lounged in the armchair.

Both of them were holding a book on computer programming languages.

They looked like they were totally absorbed in their reading, but in reality, each had a phone tucked between the pages.

Hannah finished reading the launch process files Van had sent about Daisy’s upcoming special drug, then switched to her Nameless Healer account and opened the chat with the Master of the Scepter House.

Nameless Healer: [What are the requirements to join the Scepter House?]

Barnaby had just returned to his message list when he saw the Nameless Healer’s message. He glanced up at Hannah.

‘Why is she suddenly asking about this?’ Barnaby wondered.

‘Did Spencer say something to her?’ he thought, suspicion flickering in his eyes.

Master: [The Scepter House doesn’t need anyone new right now.]

Hannah stared at the reply, feeling a weird sense of rejection. ‘Wow, he shot me down without even blinking, she thought, a little stung.

‘He won’t spill a single detail. So even being the Nameless Healer isn’t enough to get me in?’ Hannah wondered, frustration bubbling up.

‘But if that’s true, why did he bend over backwards to let me win the auction for the special drug?’ she mused, totally confused.

This whole mixed message just made Hannah feel like the Master really wasn’t interested in letting her join the Scepter House.

But Spencer had told her to really think it over, and he sounded serious about it.

There was definitely something fishy going on with both of them, but the Scepter House was already so secretive and complicated that Hannah wasn’t interested in celog inkorf TRET A

her name.

Nameless Healer: [Okay, let’s talk about when we’re putting the miracle drug up for auction…]

As Hannah typed, she noticed Barnaby getting up and heading her way. She quickly hid her phone, playing it cool like nothing happened.

“What’s got you so deep in thought?” Barnaby asked as he walked over and kissed her forehead.

“Nothing. Just reading,” Hannah replied.

“You’ve got the book upside down,” Barnaby pointed out.

Hannah looked down and realized the book really was upside down. She stared, totally caught off guard.

“I’m practicing my upside-down reading skills!” Hannah said quickly.

Barnaby was left speechless.

He took the book from her hands. “Did anything happen today that you want to talk about?”

Hannah replayed Spencer’s words in her mind: “How do you know Barnaby isn’t lying to you?” Honestly, she didn’t need the reminder. She could already sense Barnaby was hiding something from her. And since she was keeping secrets from him too, she figured that made them even.

She still had no clue what Spencer was really after, so she’d just added him on WhatsApp and muted his messages, just to keep an eye on things for now.

“I’ll handle it myself,” Hannah said.

Then, as if something just occurred to her, she shot Barnaby a playful look. “But there’s one thing that’s a bit tricky. Word is, everyone in high society is talking about you and Daisy getting engaged.

“So, if I were to call Daisy out and tear off her mask right now, would you feel sorry for her?”

The Reese family had leaked the news, not through the papers, but by word of mouth among the socialites. There was no way Barnaby could shut everyone up.

He took Hannah’s hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. “How do you want to go about it? Let me handle it. I don’t want you getting your hands dirty.”

Hannah smiled. “No, I want to do this myself.”

The next day.

The next morning, Barnaby dragged Hannah out of bed bright and early for an hour of reading. As soon as he left for work, she dove right back under the covers, ready to catch a few more winks. But before she could even close her eyes, the noise from the clinic woke her up.

She threw on some fresh clothes and stepped out to find all the clinic’s patients had been evacuated to the courtyard, while the main hall of the south wing was a disaster zone. Stuff had been thrown everywhere.

Joe was restraining a patient in the middle of a breakdown, while one nurse nursed a swollen bump on her forehead with Chloe helping her ice it, and another nurse was cowering off to the side.

The patient’s family member, a burly young man, was shouting at Evelyn, pointing a finger at her.

“Aren’t you supposed to be some miracle doctor? Why can’t you fix her?” he shouted.

“Bringing her here won’t help. She needs a rehab center, not a clinic,” Evelyn replied in an even tone.

“She’s not on drugs, she’s just sick! Say she’s on drugs one more time and I’ll deck you!” the guy yelled, fist raised.

Just as he was about to punch Evelyn, a slender hand grabbed his wrist, stopping him cold.

He followed the hand up and realized it belonged to a stunning girl.

“Who the hell are you? Get out of my way!” he yelled.

He tried to swing with his other fist, but Hannah pinched a pressure point on his wrist. She squeezed hard, and his hand instantly went dead, totally useless.

Hannah let go of his hand and glanced at the patient Joe had pinned to the ground, who kept muttering, “Give me the drugs, give me the drugs.” The girl was pale, her eyes empty, dark circles heavy under them. She looked exactly like someone jonesing for a hit.

Hannah turned to the nurse, Carolyn, standing nearby. “Did she have an appointment?”

“No,” Carolyn shook her head right away.

Hannah’s eyes turned icy as she fixed the guy with a cold, unflinching stare.

The guy squirmed under her gaze, but forced himself to sound tough. “So what if she didn’t have an appointment? Can’t we just walk in and get treated?”

“You can leave on your own, or I can call the police to show you out,” Hannah said, her voice cool and detached.

At the mention of the police, the guy immediately backed down. They were just hired muscle, and getting hauled off to the station was the last thing they wanted. So, tails between their legs, they grabbed the patient and hurried out.

Once the chaos died down, the nurses calmed the other patients and got things back on track, while the cleaners rushed in to tidy up the mess in the main hall.

“Hannah, I don’t know what’s up today, but we’ve had several troublemakers show up without appointments, just like that last one,” Chloe said as she came over.

Hannah yawned and flopped into the armchair. “Don’t panic. This is just the beginning. There’ll be plenty more like that coming our way.”
