Chapter 217 She Could Only Be Abandoned
Chapter 217 She Could Only Be Abandoned
“Does it stink?” Hannah pulled away Barnaby’s hand that was covering her mouth and nose.
Barnaby was stunned into silence.
The guests couldn’t say a word either.
‘Seriously, how could she not smell that?’ the guests all thought.
Hannah reached behind her right ear, and only then did everyone realize there was a needle tucked there.
She pulled out the needle, and the nasty smell instantly flooded the room. Hannah hurried to put the needle back, and her sense of smell shut off again, just like magic.
Barnaby was speechless.
Christopher’s eyes went wide in disbelief.
The guests all gasped in shock.
“That’s cheating!” someone shouted, and everyone else silently agreed.
“Hahaha…” Daisy, still sprawled on the floor, suddenly burst out laughing.
There he was, the man she’d sworn to marry in this lifetime, now holding another woman in his arms, and he even found her repulsive.
All these years, she’d done everything she could to catch his eye, even going so far as to impersonate the Nameless Healer just to draw attention.
But Barnaby wouldn’t even spare her a second glance.
Everything Daisy had done was pointless, she’d only ended up making a fool of herself.
Daisy was on the verge of breaking down, but reality just wouldn’t give her that escape.
“Daisy Reese, you’re suspected of making and dealing drugs. You’re coming with us for questioning!” Someone said.
The command rang out the moment a squad of heavily armed narcotics cops burst into the banquet hall. They swiftly dragged off Daisy, Julie, Marcus, and the disoriented junkies, along with the remaining stash.
The whole place was thrown into chaos. Mr. Dunn from the Drug Administration Bureau, plus a few unlucky folks from other departments who didn’t make it out in time, got swept up and hauled away too.
“This was supposed to be the Reese family’s business, something you all should’ve settled yourselves. But after everything that’s gone down tonight, that’s clearly off the table,” Hannah said as she walked up to Darren.
She stopped right in front of him, her tone calm but unyielding.
Her words sounded almost regretful, but there wasn’t a hint of real regret in her voice.
Darren was left speechless.
“Oh, thanks a lot,” Darren said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
“No problem. Just make sure you convert the damage Daisy did to the Nameless Healer’s reputation into cash and deliver it straight to Ms. Carter’s clinic,” Hannah replied, her voice completely deadpan.
Darren was left speechless.
‘Does she really not get sarcasm, or is she just ridiculously thick-skinned?’ Darren thought, his mind spinning.
‘She bullies my family, and I’m supposed to hand her money?’ he fumed inwardly.
‘Great, you put us through hell, and I’m supposed to thank you for your hard work?’ he grumbled to himself.
“You know the clinic’s address, Darren. Just send the money over,” Barnaby said, walking over with calm authority.
Darren suddenly felt a chill run down his spine. Knowing he was in the wrong, he could only swallow his pride and accept his bad luck.
And to make matters worse, he’d have to cough up every penny their reputation was worth.
To protect the Reese family’s name, they might even have to cut Daisy loose for good.
That same day, every major headline was blasting how Daisy Reese, the Reese family’s eldest daughter, faked being the Nameless Healer and pushed fake miracle drugs laced with narcotics to patients. Even the international press picked it up. Reese Medical’s stock tanked for half a month straight, and their miracle drug factory was shut down and sealed off. The officials who signed off on those miracle drugs got suspended and investigated. Patients and their families swarmed

all Reese-owned hospitals and pharma companies, demanding a full investigation into every single drug.
Even with the head of the Reese family’s power over the nation’s hospitals, he was powerless against the government and the furious public. In the end, he had to put on a show of drug inspections.
The consequences of this medical scandal were brutal. Even if the Reese family proved their drugs and equipment were legit, no matter what, the stain Daisy left on their name was there to stay.
At Reese Manor, a heavy, oppressive silence filled the air.
“Honey, you have to do something! Save Daisy! She’s barely 24, if she really goes to prison, her whole life is over!” Daisy’s mother Genevieve Reese said.
She was on her knees by the sofa, clutching Alistair Reese’s hand, pleading through her tears.
Alistair was the head of the Reese family. Now his face was grim, his eyes serious and composed. He didn’t say a word. “If we bail her out, the Reese family’s hundred-year reputation will be trashed for good!” Alistair’s father Raymond Reese finally spoke up, his voice cold and unyielding.
He was totally against letting Daisy out on bail. To protect the family’s name, he was ready to erase every trace of the mess she’d made for the Reese family, no matter what it took.
Genevieve froze. Back when Daisy was still known as the Nameless Healer, Raymond would always be grinning at her, calling her the pride of the family. But now, the moment things went south, he turned his back on her without hesitation. Genevieve pleaded, “Dad, Daisy never had any bad intentions. She just wanted to make the Reese family proud. “She already said she didn’t mean to pretend to be the Nameless Healer, it was other people who mistook her for the real thing. She knows she was wrong. Please, just give her another chance. Save her, I’m begging you.”
“Not intentional? Then why didn’t she just come clean from the start? Why let things get this far?” Raymond snapped, his voice cold and unforgiving.
“Why are you shouting? Don’t forget, Daisy is your real granddaughter, not Hannah!” Raymond’s wife Catherine Reese fired back, just as fiercely.
The whole Daisy drama had already gotten Catherine fuming, and now that Evelyn Carter was mixed up in it too, she was even more furious.
Back then, Evelyn could never beat her at anything, so there was no way Evelyn’s granddaughter should have been better than her own.
Raymond frowned, clearly annoyed. “What nonsense are you spouting now?”
“Daisy only ended up like this because that old hag’s granddaughter is so cunning! She kept quiet all this time, only to show up and blow everything wide open when things got messy.
“Those two, grandmother and granddaughter, have been targeting our family from the very beginning. And now you still want to defend them?” Catherine snapped, her voice sharp with anger.
Raymond wasn’t having any of it. He shot back, voice rising.
“Are you ever going to shut up? When have I ever stuck up for them? Daisy brought this on herself, how is this anyone else’ s fault? If this keeps up, our family’s hundred-year legacy is going down the drain.”
Genevieve hadn’t expected her husband’s parents to start bickering again over this mess. Her lips moved as if she wanted to say something, but she just couldn’t get the words out.
Seeing the elders go at it again, Darren just jammed his earbuds in, blocking out the noise with a look of pure annoyance. “Enough!” Alistair, who hadn’t said a word until now, banged the coffee table, his voice thundered through the room. “Dad’s right. We can’t let everything we’ve built for a hundred years go up in smoke because of Daisy,” he said, no room for argument in his voice.
Genevieve stared at Alistair in utter despair and said. “But what about Daisy? These charges, making and dealing drugs, they’re huge! If she goes to prison, that’ll be the end of her!”
“You know exactly how serious this is! If we try to save her, we’ll drag the whole Reese family down with her.
“Right now, we have no choice but to abandon her,” Alistair sald, his voice cold and merciless. “She’s an adult now, she has to face the consequences of her own actions!”
Genevieve’s eyes were red and swollen, her lips trembling as she tried to speak, but no words came out.
Alistair gave her shoulder a firm pat. “Don’t worry. I’ll remember everyone who hurt Daisy. Anyone who dragged the Reese family into this mess, none of them are getting off easy.”

Meanwhile, in the temporary holding cell, Daisy sat anxiously, waiting for her family to come bail her out.
But instead of the rescue she’d hoped for, her father arrived with a document in hand, a waiver he wanted her to sign. The waiver coldly declared that every action Daisy had taken was her own responsibility, and Reese Medical was completely absolved of any involvement.
Daisy hit rock bottom. She’d lost her pride, her love, and now, even her own family had abandoned her.
She was the kind of heiress who had the world at her feet, born with every advantage. But with one stupid mistake, she trashed her perfect hand and ended up with the infamous label of a drug lord, sentenced to life behind bars.
Once Daisy was officially convicted, Reese Medical didn’t even blink, they immediately put out a statement, washing their hands of her mess and making it clear they had nothing to do with her scandal.
At Ms. Carter’s clinic.
“Man, the Reese family really takes reputation to a whole new level. They just ditched their own daughter without a second thought,” Christopher tsked in amazement as he scrolled through the news.
Seeing Hannah just sitting there, petting Hedy and completely ignoring him, Christopher grabbed a chair, plopped down next to her, and kept going.
“Seriously, you better watch your back. The Reese family just got burned by you big time, they’re definitely going to try and get even,” he warned.
