Chapter 218 Born To Lose
“Oh,” Hannah replied coolly, petting Hedy without a care.
‘What’s the use of being afraid?’ she thought. ‘I never wanted to mess with the Reese family, but they were the ones who came after me first.’
Seeing how unfazed she was, Christopher found himself liking her even more.
He licked his lip ring. “You’re really not scared? That’s the Reese family, one of the big four.” he said.
Hannah glanced up at him and shot back, “Why are you still hanging around? Planning to keep working as the bouncer here or something?”
Christopher just stared at her, lost for words.
‘What am I, bored? Have I got nothing better to do than be a doorman?’ he grumbled to himself.
“I’m waiting for you to take me out to eat! You just use me and then forget our promise?” Christopher complained.
“I didn’t forget. Just say the time and place,” Hannah replied.
She’d only planned for Christopher to stand guard for a day, just to drive away the patients Daisy sent to cause trouble.
But when she realized those patients kept coming back, she simply kept Christopher around for a few more days and used the chance to win them over.
That’s how that wild scene at the party happened, with the patients publicly calling out Daisy’s miracle drug as a fraud.
She really did owe him one.
“No way. I’ve been guarding your place for a whole week, even handled all the dirty work for you, literally.
“A single meal isn’t enough to pay me back for all that. You owe me a few days. Come hang out with me and have some fun,” Christopher suddenly changed his mind.
After spending time together, he found himself liking Hannah more and more with each passing day.
Even though he knew she was Barnaby’s girl now, he just couldn’t help wanting to steal her away.
He was sure that with the right moves, there was no wall he couldn’t break through.
‘Seriously?’ Hannah thought, feeling totally speechless.
‘Like that was my idea…’ she grumbled to herself.
“A few days? Where do you want to go?” Hannah asked.
Seeing she didn’t turn him down right away, Christopher figured he was in luck. “I’ve been your bodyguard for a whole week, so you gotta give me a week of fun in return. Now, where should we go…”
He pulled out his phone and sent Hannah a travel itinerary.
“The Grand Loop. Let’s just pack up and hit the road, no planning, just go for it,” he said.
He’d already prepped the car, tent, camping gear, everything. All he needed was Hannah’s yes, and they’d be off on a romantic adventure together.
The thought alone was thrilling and made his heart race.
“Sure,” Hannah replied.
She scrolled through the itinerary, admiring the gorgeous views. Mid-May was the perfect time, not too hot, not too cold, and she had some free time anyway. Without a second thought, she shot the itinerary over to Barnaby.
Christopher licked the corner of his mouth, practically bouncing with excitement. “Awesome! I’ll book the tickets right now. First stop, Westhaven, we leave tomorrow! Seriously, don’t worry about packing, I’ve got everything ready.”
Hannah just stared at him, lost for words.
‘Is this what he calls a spontaneous trip?’ Hannah wondered.
“Hannah~” Candy’s bubbly voice called out from the doorway.
She strolled in, not even wearing sunglasses, and there just happened to be a teenage fan in the lobby who wanted a selfie and an autograph.

After giving him everything he wanted, Candy Successfully unlocked! rew her arms around her neck. “I missed you
so much!”
With that, she planted a big, smacking kiss on Hannah’s cheek, leaving a bright red lipstick mark behind.

“Where are you guys headed? Take me with you! I’ve been cooped up on set for over a month, I’m going stir crazy, Candy
whined
“You finished filming already?” Hannah asked, scrubbing the lipstick mark off her cheek with a look of annoyance. “Yep, we just wrapped. I’ve got a whole month off now,” Candy replied.
Christopher recognized Candy right away, and seeing how they acted together, he could tell they were total besties. He jumped in, “We’re heading out on a road trip along the Grand Loop. Leaving tomorrow, gone for about a week. If you’re free, you should totally join us.”
Sure, he’d been hoping for just him and Hannah, but to win a girl over, one needed to secure her best friend’s alliance first. “Just the two of you?” Candy gave Christopher a surprised look.
Never mind that Hannah already had a boyfriend, this guy might have decent features, but with that wine-red curly hair and all those piercings, he had that whole alternative bad boy vibe. So not Hannah’s type.
From what Candy knew about Hannah, a guy like this was either her type, or just someone she’d use for her own benefit. If he was her type, she’d make a move. If he was just a sucker, she’d totally take advantage of him.
“That’s right,” Christopher replied, then quickly added, “I’m Christopher Todd.”
“With Christopher being so eager to invite me along, how could I possibly say no?” Candy replied with a playful grin. Then, as if something just popped into her head, she teased, “By the way, Christopher, did you know our Hannah already has a boyfriend? And you’re still this fired up?”
“As long as she’s not married, anything can happen. Hell, if I’d met Hannah before Barnaby did, he wouldn’t even stand a chance. Whoever gets to marry her in the end is the real winner!” Christopher said, full of swagger.
Hannah just stared at him, lost for words.
‘Did I get a say in any of this?’ she thought.
Candy couldn’t help but give him a thumbs-up for his cocky confidence. “So, Christopher, how old are you anyway?”
Christopher was a little confused by the question, but answered honestly, “I’m 23. Plus, I’m younger than Barnaby, just saying.”
He made a point of emphasizing that last bit.
“Too bad, you lost before you even started,” Candy said with a playful sigh.
‘You were two years late to Barnaby and still think you could’ve met Hannah first?’ Candy thought, amused.
‘Maybe in your next life, kid.’ Candy told herself.
Christopher was left speechless, question marks practically floating above his head.

At Ascent Ventures, in the CEO’s office.
“What the hell were you doing there that day?” Edmund demanded.
He also slammed a month-old newspaper down on Barnaby’s desk, the very front page from the day Daisy got exposed for who she really was.
He’d been overseas at an international conference when it all blew up. Even though he heard about it right away, the conference was too important to drop everything. Now, fresh off the plane, he’d come straight from the airport to confront Barnaby,
Barnaby leaned back in his chair, legs crossed, giving Edmund a casual look. “Weren’t you the one pushing me to marry the Nameless Healer? I said yes, so I went.”
Edmund was left speechless by Barnaby’s reply. He honestly never saw it coming, Daisy turned out to be a total fraud, just impersonating the Nameless Healer.
“I told you to marry Daisy, so don’t play word games with me!” Edmund snapped.
For once, he actually tried to sound reasonable. “Look, I admit I got fooled by Daisy too. I’m taking back what I said before. Go find someone else to marry, anyone, just not the Nameless Healer.”
Barnaby sat up straight, his eyes icy as he stared Edmund down. “You think you can just tell me who to marry and who not to? Even Dad never dared to order me around like that. What makes you think you can?”
“Because I’m your big brother!” Edmund shouted. “Barnaby, don’t you ever forget, if it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t even be here today!”

Barnaby snorted, his voice icy. “So what, am I supposed to drop to my knees and thank you for not offing me when you had the chance?
Edmund’s face darkened. He didn’t want to dig any deeper, so he switched gears. “Do you even know who the Nameless
Healer is now?”
Barnaby just stared back at him, his expression icy, not saying a word.
Edmund held his gaze, and in that silent standoff, it was obvious, they both knew Hannah was the Nameless Healer.
