Chapter 227 Threats And Temptations
Chapter 227 Threats And Temptations
Iris froze for a moment when she saw who walked in.
The girl wore a simple black shirt, black jeans, and black Dr. Martens boots. Her long hair was pulled up in a high ponytail, giving her a crisp, cool vibe.
Dressed head-to-toe in black, her skin looked almost luminous. On her delicate face, those stunning peach blossom eyes with long, thick lashes started to overlap with the memory of that little girl from years ago.
‘Calista!’ Iris thought.
‘No, wait. She goes by Hannah now, Iris corrected herself.
If it weren’t for Evelyn, Iris would never have realized that this was her little cousin from back then.
Turned out, they hadn’t died at all. They’d actually been lying low in Kinswood for almost half a year.
Whenever Iris thought about Gemma, she found herself gripping the blanket tighter without even realizing it.
“The Nameless Healer!” Stanley exclaimed, surprised that the person they were just talking about had actually shown up. He stepped forward with a look of delight. “Could you please take a look at my wife?”
“Sure,” Hannah replied, but her eyes didn’t even glance at Stanley. Instead, she fixed her gaze on Iris, who was lying in the hospital bed.
“Baby, I suddenly really want Sweetie’s layer cake. Can you go grab one for me?” Iris said, snapping back to reality and looking at Stanley.
“Of course, but are you sure you’ll be alright on your own?” Stanley asked.
Iris waved him off, “I’m good, don’t worry. Just go already!”
“Alright, but try not to get worked up, okay? Nameless Healer, I’m leaving my wife in your hands,” Stanley said before heading out.
Now, only the two of them were left in the room.
Hannah walked up to the bedside and gave Iris a cold once-over, her gaze finally settling on Iris’s stomach.
“I can help you keep your baby,” Hannah said.
“What do you want?” Iris asked, her tone wary.
‘Nobody does something for nothing. No way Hannah just showed up out of nowhere to help me out,’ Iris thought. Hannah’s lips curled into a faint smile. “You’re so smart and cautious, Iris. How did you end up getting fooled by Daisy?”
Iris stared at that cryptic smile, and a sudden chill ran down her spine.
All at once, she realized, she might have just fallen right into Hannah’s trap.
Hannah had deliberately waited to expose Daisy’s true nature until Iris was pregnant, letting her taste hope and sweetness, only to make her take Daisy’s drug-laced pills while she was basking in that fake happiness.
And when it was already too late to fix anything, Hannah finally revealed Daisy’s true face, crushing Iris’s hopes completely. ‘That’s how Hannah totally ruined Daisy’s life, Iris thought.
‘She let Daisy soar to the heavens, only to send her crashing down into hell.
‘And the Bakers? They got wrecked too…
The girl standing before her was no longer the innocent, lively little princess from the past. She was a vengeful demon who had crawled out of hell to settle scores.
Thinking of this, Iris swallowed hard. “What… what exactly do you want?”
Hannah caught every flicker of panic in Iris’s eyes, then glanced at the hand she instinctively used to shield her belly. A hint of cunning flashed in Hannah’s eyes.
“I heard the Thole family scored a specialty drug for the nervous system at the latest Scepter House auction,” Hannah said coolly. “Too bad, even something that potent isn’t what you need right now.”
She casually pulled a small ceramic bottle out of her bag. “What you actually need is this, safe pregnancy pills.”
Hearing that, Iris’s gaze stuck to the little ceramic boolean Hagion like glue, unable to look away.
“How much?” Iris blurted out.

‘No matter how much it costs, I have to get my hands on it!’ Iris thought desperately.

Seeing that Iris had taken the bait, Hannah pulled over a chair and sat down.
“If I wanted to sell it, why wouldn’t I just put it up at the Scepter House auction? There are plenty of people there who’d fight over it and drive the price sky-high,” Hannah said.
She had previously given the Master of the Scepter House seven specialty drugs for different conditions. At the auction earlier this month, the Scepter House only put three of them up for sale.
The remaining four, though, were kept by the Scepter House for themselves, each valued at the highest auction price that night, 200 million dollars apiece.
“So what do you want me to do?” Iris asked.
She was growing more and more convinced that Hannah had set her up from the very beginning. Maybe even the whole thing with her baby was part of Hannah’s plan.
‘She even saved those pregnancy pills just for this, she planned it all along!’ Iris thought.
“Let’s talk about Gemma and the whole thing with the Hollow family,” Hannah said.
Iris’s heart lurched. Now she was certain, Hannah had laid a trap and was waiting for her to walk right in.
‘Does Hannah already know I was the one who put Gemma up to it?’ Iris wondered, panic clawing at her chest.
‘No, if she really knew, she wouldn’t just be here talking. She’d have the cops busting down the door, Iris tried to reassure herself.
‘That was close. I almost walked right into her trap again, Iris thought, her heart pounding.
‘She’s got guts, I’ll give her that, Iris fumed inwardly.
‘She really went there, using my own baby to threaten me!’ Iris seethed.
But for the sake of the baby growing inside her, Iris had to swallow her pride and play along.
She forced down her panic and anger, keeping her voice steady. “Why should I trust that this medicine can really save my baby?”
“Stop with the pointless questions. Every second you hesitate is a second lost for your baby. You don’t get to choose anymore, unless you’re ready to give up on him,” Hannah said, her voice icy and unyielding.
Iris’s eyes grew cold, her fists clenching so tight her knuckles turned white.
‘There really was no way out for me,’ Iris thought, despair washing over her.
Every doctor had already sentenced her baby to death.
“I want you to swear on your life you’ll keep my baby safe and make sure he’s born healthy!” Iris demanded.
“Don’t even think about bargaining with me. I’m not one to break my word. If you give me what I want, I’ll save your baby. Otherwise…” Hannah’s voice trailed off, cold and dangerous.
Her meaning was obvious, no need for more words.
Hannah didn’t trust Iris one bit. She even suspected Iris might be the one behind the car crash that killed her adoptive mom.
Now that she and Evelyn were totally exposed, the Thole family hadn’t made a move yet, but getting back in to find more evidence wouldn’t be easy.
So this was both a test for Iris and a way for Hannah to get herself a legit reason to come and go from the Thole family.
Until the baby is born, Hannah wasn’t worried about Iris trying to hurt her, unless Iris decided she didn’t care about the child
anymore.
Iris looked down at her stomach and fell silent.
She was clearly wrestling with her decision.
Seeing this, Hannah abruptly stood up. “Take your time, Ms. Thole. Think it over, and reach out when you’re ready.”
With that, she made as if to leave.
“Wait!” Iris blurted out.
Hannah paused, glancing back. “So, you’ve decided?”
“Uncle Howard. You can start with him,” Iris said.
Hannah narrowed her peach blossom eyes at Iris, then let out a scoff.
‘Well, isn’t that amusing, Hannah smirked to herself.
She didn’t even bother asking about the details, just threw out a name. Clearly, Iris knew way more about this mess than

she was pretending.
‘So, the dogs are finally turning on each other, huh?’ Hannah sneered inwardly.
“Fine,” Hannah replied, tossing the ceramic bottle over. “One pill a day. I’ll come to the Thole family residence for you in a week.”
With that, she spun on her heel and left.
Iris snatched up the bottle, practically giddy with hope. But with Daisy’s disaster still fresh in her mind, there was no way she’d swallow it right away. Instead, she popped out a pill and sent it off to get tested, better safe than sorry.
Once Hannah stepped out of the hospital room, she turned off the hidden camera on her phone tucked away in her bag and saved the recording.
As she walked out the hospital doors, Ronin’s car pulled up to the curb right in front of her.
The backseat window rolled down, showing off Barnaby’s sharp, striking features.
With a sly little smile, Hannah hopped in the backseat. “So, how’d you know I was here?”
