Chapter 232 Secretly Using Cheat Codes

Chapter 232 Secretly Using Cheat Codes

That evening, Dorian got word that Hannah would be coming home. He immediately decided to throw a little family gathering.

Ever since Xenith Systems Group invested in the Scott Group, the company had gotten back on track and was finally turning a profit.

Dorian had made a real comeback, his reputation in Brynlock was higher than ever, and at home, he was once again the head of the family, walking tall with renewed confidence.

He knew all his current success was thanks to Hannah.

His daughter wasn’t just a straight-A legend or a miracle healer, she was his good luck charm. If only he hadn’t been so blind to her worth and failed to treat her right, he never would’ve hit rock bottom.

Thankfully, Hannah wasn’t too cold-hearted. She gave him a shot at redemption.

Just then, the sound of a car came from the driveway. Dorian, trying to show he was the head of the family, strode out first to greet Hannah.

But as he reached the door, he realized it had started raining. He was about to grab an umbrella, but Cici was already out ahead of him, two umbrellas in hand, moving fast to welcome Hannah.

Then Felicity rushed out with a blanket, and Arthur, holding an umbrella, followed right behind her, only to end up bumping into Dorian by accident.

Dorian stumbled, barely regaining his balance, when Aurelia’s voice called out from behind, “Why are you just standing there blocking the door? Go bring them some hot water! This weather is perfect for catching a cold, don’t let Hannah and Barnaby get sick.”

Dorian could only sigh inwardly.

Family status: dropped.

Hannah was just unbuckling her seatbelt when Cici opened the car door, holding a big umbrella over her. As soon as she stepped out, Felicity draped a thick blanket over her shoulders.

Hannah just gaped, totally out of words.

“Don’t get wet, you’ll catch a cold. Come inside,” Felicity said, gently guiding her toward the house.

“Mom, you really don’t have to go overboard,” Hannah said, trying to pull the blanket off.

But Felicity wouldn’t let her, whispering, “You know, that time of the month. You need to take care of yourself.” Hannah froze for a second. She had gotten her period that morning, and she was surprised Felicity had noticed. Her heart warmed, and she let Felicity lead her inside.

Barnaby followed behind, holding his own umbrella as he watched the Scott family hovering around Hannah. As soon as Hannah sat down, Dorian brought over two cups of hot water. Aurelia couldn’t help but grumble, “I told you to bring hot water, but is that all you know how to do? Nothing else?”

Dorian hadn’t done this kind of chore in decades. Back in the day, when he was in charge, Felicity would always bring him his drinks.

Dorian couldn’t help but feel a bit resentful, but since it was Hannah he was serving, and with Barnaby watching, he just sucked it up and quietly headed back to the kitchen to prepare a quick bite.

Family status: dropped again.

“Oh, Mr. Scott, that’s not how you do it. Just move over, let me take care of it,” Cici said, shooing him aside.

Dorian was at a loss for words.

Family status: dropped once more…

Upstairs, Lucian heard the commotion and rushed down. When he spotted Barnaby, it hit him, those four books Hannah gave him this morning werde secret trafik, meant to help him quietly level up and

outshine Barnaby.

After all that solo grinding lately, he’d leveled up quite a bit. Now was the perfect chance to show off his skills to everyone.

He scampered back upstairs to grab his laptop, then wedged himself right between Barnaby and Hannah on the couch. Flashing a confident grin at Barnaby, he asked, “Hey Barnaby, how much Python do you actually know?”

Barnaby wasn’t too happy about Lucian wedging himself between him and Hannah, but for his sister’s sake, he answered anyway, “About halfway.”

Lucian’s eyes lit up with glee. ‘Ha! He’s only halfway through? I’m almost finished!’ he thought.

All those late nights and cramming during class were finally worth it.

“Hey sis, what about you?” Lucian asked, turning to Hannah with a grin.

Hannah was sipping the coffee Cici had made, barely remembering where she’d left off in the book. She just shrugged and said, “Pretty much the same as him.”

“You guys are way too slow! I’m almost done already!” Lucian complained, then fired up his laptop. “And I even made a little game with what I learned!”

Lucian excitedly clicked on an icon on his desktop, and the screen popped up with a big blue sky, yellow and green grass, and a gray highway. The bright, blocky colors made up a minimalist highway driving game.

It wasn’t much to look at, but at least the basic game logic actually worked.

“So, what do you think? Pretty cool, huh? Come on, admit it, I’m a genius!” Lucian shot a proud look at Barnaby and Hannah, practically begging for compliments.

“Wow, Lucian, you made this all by yourself? That’s awesome!” Felicity beamed with pride as she leaned in for a closer look.

“Not bad, for a kid your age,” Arthur said, giving him an approving nod.

“I knew it! Genius really does run in the Scott family!” Aurelia said, nodding with satisfaction.

Dorian just kept quiet, suddenly feeling a bit sheepish as he remembered how Felicity used to help him with homework back in their school days.

“Pretty impressive,” Hannah said, nodding. For his age, Lucian’s got real potential.

Barnaby didn’t know what to say.

‘That’s it?’ he thought.

“But you could make a little adjustment here,” Hannah said, sliding the laptop over and pulling up Lucian’s code.

Just as she was about to show him a trick or two, she suddenly felt a pair of intense eyes locked onto her.

She already knew exactly who it was without even looking up.

A mischievous idea flashed through her mind, so she purposely messed up a line of code, then looked straight at Barnaby. “Would this work better? What do you think, Barnaby?”

“Nope, that’s not right,” Barnaby said, pulling Lucian out of the way and sliding in next to Hannah, pulling the laptop over to himself.

‘If this kid’s preschool-level code is enough to impress Hannah, then if I show off just a little, she’ll practically worship me, Barnaby thought, a smug look flashing across his face.

“It should be like this,” he said, his slender fingers flying over the keyboard as he replaced the line Hannah had purposely messed up, and streamlined the whole code while he was at it.

‘Wait, what just happened? Seriously???’ Lucian thought to himself.

Hannah watched Barnaby work, her eyes narrowing in suspicion. “Hey, those aren’t Python functions, you’re using stuff from Java and Perl, aren’t you?”

‘He’s handling this code so smoothly and cleverly, it’s hard to believe he’s just started learning, Hannah thought.

Barnaby’s hands paused mid-typing. He realized he’d been coding out of pure habit and totally forgot he was supposed to be a beginner here.

With how far they were in their lessons, they shouldn’t be anywhere near this level yet.

“Yeah, I usually slack off at work and browse the hacker forum. Picked it up from the tutorials there,” Barnaby said with a sheepish cough. Then he glanced at Hannah, curiosity in his eyes. “Wait, how do you recognize all that?”

Hannah didn’t know what to say.

‘Crap, I spoke up too fast, Hannah thought, a little annoyed with herself.

‘I should’ve let him show off a bit longer and watched how he coded. That way, I could’ve figured out his style; she thought.

Every famous hacker had their own signature coding style, and real pros could spot them just by the way they wrote code.

But by speaking up, Hannah not only interrupted Barnaby, but she also accidentally let her own skills slip.

“Coincidentally, I learned it from watching tutorial videos on the hacker forum too,” Hannah explained.

‘Wait, what?’ Lucian told himself.

‘Hold up, weren’t we all supposed to be learning from the same books? How come you two are secretly running cheat codes behind my back?’ Lucian thought, feeling dramatically betrayed.
