Chapter 238 She Did It On Purpose

Chapter 238 She Did It On Purpose

Iris lay weakly on the bed, and when she saw Hannah frown, her anxiety spiked all over again.

“Is my baby okay?” she asked anxiously.

Evelyn had managed to stop the bleeding and reassured her, telling Iris not to worry and that they’d talk more when Hannah got here. Then she headed off to brew some medicine on the stove.

“Did you really take the medicine I gave you on time?” Hannah asked, her voice icy as she released Iris’s hand.

When Hannah didn’t answer her question, Iris felt a sudden wave of dread and bolted upright in bed. “I did! I took your medicine, and that’s what led to all this!”

“Give me the rest of the medicine,” Hannah said, wiping her hands with a wet wipe.

Stanley quickly grabbed the small ceramic bottle from the nightstand and handed it to Hannah. “I’ve kept this medicine safe, just the two of us know about it!”

He was basically saying there was no way the medicine could’ve been switched.

“You’d better give me a damn good explanation and make sure my baby survives, or I swear I’ll drag you down with my child!” Iris threatened, her lips pale as she spoke.

Hannah acted like she hadn’t heard a word. She pulled a pair of white gloves from her bag, put them on, and then took the medicine bottle. She poured out a pill, crushed it between her fingers, and brought it to her nose to smell.

She set the crushed powder aside on a tissue, poured out another pill, and repeated the process.

“This isn’t the medicine I gave you,” Hannah said firmly. “These pills are made from the exact same ingredients and with the same method as Daisy’s so-called miracle drug.”

Stanley felt a chill run down his spine. ‘When on earth did the medicine get swapped out?’ he thought, panic surging through him.

He’d personally checked Dr. Madison’s report, it was supposed to be safe. ‘How did it turn into poison?’ he thought, his mind reeling in disbelief.

Iris’s mind buzzed and went blank. She shrieked, her voice sharp with panic, “Impossible! This is the medicine you gave me!”

“If I already agreed to the deal, why would I give you the wrong medicine?” Hannah shot back.

Iris suddenly remembered Hannah’s motives, her eyes blazing red. “You did this on purpose! You want to hurt my baby! I’m not letting you get away with this!” she screamed.

Ignoring her weakness, she lunged at Hannah, hands reaching for her throat.

Hannah stepped back, and Stanley, afraid she’d collapse, caught her just in time. Mabel and Eleanor, hearing the commotion, burst in.

“Iris, Iris, what’s going on?” Mabel rushed in, sounding panicked.

Seeing Iris trying to go after Hannah, Mabel barked, “Grab her!”

The servants burst in, but before they could reach Hannah, she cut in coldly,

“Keep this up and you’ll really lose your baby,” Hannah warned.

Iris froze, clutching her belly, her heart racing with mixed feelings. “Baby, you’re still here!”

Stanley quickly helped her back to bed, and Mabel rushed over, her face full of worry.

Eleanor’s eyes flashed with a hint of venom. For a moment, she couldn’t tell if Iris’s baby was just stubbornly hanging on, or if Hannah and Evelyn, were simply miracle workers.

The servants who’d rushed in hesitated, not sure if they should actually go after Hannah or just stay put.

“What the hell is going on here?” Mabel demanded, her volce sharp.

Chapter 238 She Did It On Purpose

“The medicine the Nameless Healer gave Iris got swapped by someone,” Stanley said honestly.

Eleanor glanced at the crushed powder on the table, then gave Hannah a quick, nervous look, a flash of panic crossed her eyes.

“Are you sure someone swapped the medicine? Or was it deliberately the wrong prescription from the start, someone trying to poison Iris and kill off the Thole family’s heir?” Eleanor pressed, her voice sharp.

As she spoke, she snapped at the servants, “Why are you just standing there? Grab the culprit now!”

The servants were about to move, but Hannah shot them a frosty glare, and they froze in place.

If it were anyone else, they would’ve followed orders and restrained her without hesitation. But this was the Nameless Healer, no one dared touch her.

And she was also Barnaby’s woman.

If they so much as laid a finger on her and Barnaby got pissed, they’d be dead before they even knew what hit them.

“Why are you so eager to pin this on me?” Hannah sneered, fixing Eleanor with a cold stare.

“Is it because you don’t want me to save her baby? Or is there something you’re hiding, and you just need a scapegoat?” she pressed.

“You!” Eleanor was left speechless for a moment, but quickly covered up her guilt and retorted.

She said, “Nice try! The Thole family’s got tight security, and the staff are all pros. Who’d have the guts to mess with Iris’s medicine? Who else could it be but you?”

Hannah scoffed. “Swapping out medicine? That’s nothing. Back then, didn’t Alastair get killed right here in the Thole family’s own house?”

Her words hit like a bombshell, and the room instantly fell silent. Mabel fixed Hannah with a cold, hard stare.

The servants barely dared to breathe. Anyone who’d been around the Thole family long enough knew that Alastair Thole was an off-limits topic in Thole Manor.

The Thole family had always had a solid reputation, but twelve years ago, after Leopold died, the sons tore each other apart fighting for the position of family head.

Alastair was murdered, and Lysander was sent to prison, it became the biggest scandal the Thole family had

ever seen.

After Edmund took over as family head, he once caught two of the Thole family’s young ladies gossiping about Alastair. He immediately expelled them from the Thole family’s ancestral records, and from then on, no one ever dared bring up Alastair’s name again.

Hannah’s blunt words were nothing short of a direct challenge to the Thole family.

Eleanor’s eyes narrowed in alarm as she stared at Hannah.

‘That damn girl is here to dig up the old scandal!’ Eleanor cursed inwardly, her heart pounding with anxiety. “The medicine’s ready,” Evelyn said, breaking the tense silence as she walked in with the medicine.

When Hannah saw Evelyn, Evelyn shot her a look and gave a slight shake of her head, signaling her to stay calm.

Hearing them mention the wrongful case against her adoptive father, and how her adoptive mother was killed trying to clear his name, Hannah couldn’t help but feel a surge of emotion. But without any proof, picking a fight now wouldn’t change anything.

She composed herself, letting her usual icy calm settle in, then turned to Mabel.

“You can have someone run tests on the medicine on the table. If you want me to keep working to save her baby, then clear the room,” Hannah said, her tone cool and unwavering.

Mabel stared at Hannah, uncertain.

Whenever that old scandal wasn’t mentioned, Mabel trusted Hannah. But now that it was, doubt crept in.

Chapter 238 She Did It On Purpose

‘Did this girl have some ulterior motive for coming back to the Thole family?’ Mabel wondered, suspicion flickering in her mind.

“Mom, can you all please leave?” Iris begged, nudging Mabel anxiously.

Every second they wasted felt like a death sentence for her baby.

“Everyone, go wait in the living room. Don’t bother Iris while she’s trying to keep her pregnancy safe,” Mabel finally ordered.

Before leaving, she told Martha to take the medicine on the table for testing.

Evelyn set the medicine down, and Hannah asked her to step out too.

Only Hannah and Iris were left in the room.

Seeing Iris looking so pale and nearly falling apart, Hannah couldn’t help but smirk, a glint of calculation in her

eyes.

She’d done it on purpose, riling Iris up just to get everyone to rush in.

Someone wanted to set Iris up for a miscarriage and make Hannah take the blame for it. No way was she going to let that happen.

If they wanted to play dirty, then Hannah was ready to rip the mask off and drag everyone into the hunt for the real culprit.

“Can you really save my baby?” Iris asked, her voice shaky as she caught the cryptic smile on Hannah’s lips. A chill ran down her spine.

After all that chaos, her emotions had been on a rollercoaster, and she was about to lose it.

And that was just what Hannah had planned all along.
