Chapter 239 This Is The Thole Family

Chapter 239 This Is The Thole Family

“Did you have someone test the medicine I gave you before?” Hannah asked.

She spoke as she calmly spread out her acupuncture kit on the table.

Iris had gotten into big trouble because of Daisy before, she took some spiked medicine that almost made her lose her baby.

After that incident, Hannah was sure Iris would have the medicine tested as soon as she got it, and would only take it after making sure it was safe.

Iris looked at Hannah, her pale lips pressed together in silence.

“You know full well what’s going on. It’s not about whether I can save your baby, it’s about whether the person who switched your medicine wants you to have this child,” Hannah said.

At those words, Iris collapsed against the headboard, her face ghostly pale, her eyes glazed with shock and

terror.

Seeing her so miserable, Hannah thought of how Barnaby had been poisoned before, and couldn’t help but think how ridiculous and sad it all was.

This was what the Thole family was really like.

All smiles and affection on the surface, but underneath, it was all betrayal and backstabbing.

If Evelyn hadn’t dragged her away from the Thole family back then, Hannah might not have made it out alive.

Iris thought back to everyone she’d been around lately, they were all her own flesh and blood. The realization made her skin crawl.

“What am I supposed to do now?” she asked, her eyes red.

Other than Hannah, the only one she could count on to protect her child, she had no idea who else she could

trust.

“The damage from the medicine you took before can’t be reversed. If you want a perfectly healthy baby, I’d suggest you let this one go, nurse yourself back to health, and try for another when you’re ready…” Hannah said gently.

“No! I won’t!” Iris interrupted, her voice trembling.

She cut Hannah off before she could finish.

Ten years of hoping for a child, and now that she finally had one, the thought of losing him was unbearable. What if she let go, and never got another chance?

“Isn’t everyone saying you’re a miracle worker? No matter what, you have to save my baby!” Iris pleaded, desperation shining in her tear-filled eyes.

She knelt on the bed, clutching Hannah’s sleeve, her eyes brimming with tears as she pleaded, “As long as you can save him, I’ll do anything you ask!”

That was exactly what Hannah had been waiting for. She cut straight to the chase. “Who ordered Gemma to be silenced?”

Iris looked up, stunned. “I don’t know!”

Hannah’s eyes narrowed as she fixed her gaze on Iris. “Then what do you know?”

Her lips moved, but nothing came out. “I…”

“Think it through before you speak,” Hannah said, twirling a needle between her fingers. “How much the leftover poison in your system affects your baby depends on what you tell me. You don’t want your child born with a disability, do you?”

It was a naked threat.

Iris swallowed nervously. She was the golden girl of the Thole family pampered since birth, everything always Successfully unlocked!

going her way. Anyone who dared threaten her wouldn’t even live to see the next sunrise.

But facing Hannah now, she was at a total loss.

But for the sake of her unborn child, she finally gave in.

Iris lay flat on the bed, shifting her posture, and said quietly.

“I was the one who told Gemma to hide Yvette Hollow and her mother,” she finally confessed.

Hannah wiped the needle with an alcohol swab, her expression blank, found a spot on Iris’s arm and pressed the needle in. “Why did you want them hidden?”

Iris shot her a cautious glance, but Hannah’s face was unreadable. She went on.

“Gemma told me Yvette had come to her, saying someone was asking about the accident Gantt was involved in years ago. I just wanted to get them out of the country, but things didn’t go as planned…”

Hannah’s hand froze mid-motion with the needle as she stared at her. “So you were the one who told Gantt to run down my adoptive mother!”

“No! I didn’t!” Iris denied it right away.

She continued, “Back then, I really did think about having Gantt scare your adoptive mother a bit. She kept bothering Aunt Vera, always using the excuse of seeking justice for Uncle Lysander.

“Aunt Vera was already heartbroken after losing her twin brother, and your adoptive mother just kept picking at the scab. I couldn’t stand it anymore, so I wanted to help Aunt Vera out.

“But when Gemma brought Gantt to me and we started planning how to scare your adoptive mother, I changed my mind.

“I realized it was tough for her, raising you all by herself. If anything happened to her, you’d have no one left. So I decided to drop it.

“I swear, I never told him to hit anyone. I honestly don’t know why he ended up doing it!”

As she spoke, Iris took a deep breath, her eyes full of sadness, confusion, and regret.

“After she died, I was wracked with guilt. If I hadn’t even had that thought, maybe she’d still be alive. But once someone’s gone, there’s no bringing them back.

“I kept that secret buried deep inside, but when Gemma told me someone started poking around about the accident again, I got scared and had her hide Yvette and her mother,” she added.

Hannah gave her a frosty stare. “Where’s your proof?”

“I’ve got the call recording,” Iris replied, grabbing her phone, pulling up the audio from her conversation with Gemma, and handing it to Hannah.

“Gemma took care of everything with Yvette and her mother. I just told her to send them abroad for treatment and maybe settle down, but I have no clue why things turned out like this,” Iris said, sounding defensive.

Hannah took the phone, quickly forwarded the recording to her own device and sent it to Ethan before hitting play.

While Hannah listened to the recording, she kept working the needles on Iris.

By the time she finished the treatment, the recording had ended.

The call recording backed up everything Iris had just said.

Iris had told Gemma to send Yvette and her mother abroad, and Gemma did exactly that. That explained why Yvette and her mother had gone overseas first, even had hospital records prepared, before they were dragged

off to the mountains.

But when it came to what happened after they were brought back to the mountains, Iris was clearly in the dark. She’d questioned Gemma about it on the phone, but Gemma claimed Yvette and her mother had escaped, so she had to drag them back and tie them up.

After that, things went pretty much as Gemma had described before, Yvette and her mother tried to run again,

and ended up dead after another escape attempt.

None of the calls ever mentioned the memory card Yvette stashed away in the banyan trees.

Hannah did a quick check, the call times with Gemma lined up exactly with the recordings.

But that didn’t mean they hadn’t talked in private.

“Didn’t Gemma ever tell you that Yvette handed over a video Gantt recorded back then while she was being held captive?” Hannah asked, deliberately dropping a false lead.

Iris looked confused and curious, sitting up. “What video?”

Hannah didn’t say a word.

Seeing Hannah quietly packing up her acupuncture kit without answering, Iris pressed, “What video? Just tell me already!”

Hannah was sure now, Iris really had no clue about the recording, and she’d been used without even realizing

“Why did you want me to look into Howard before?” Hannah asked, dodging the question.

Iris was clearly annoyed at not getting the answer she wanted, but when she saw Hannah pick up medicine Evelyn had brewed earlier, she could only give in and answer truthfully.

“From what I know, those two have a lot going on behind the scenes,” Iris said.

the

Hannah nodded, handing her the medicine. “Drink up. From now on, swing by my clinic after lunch every day for your pregnancy meds.”

Iris took the medicine, still not giving up. “What exactly did Gantt record in that video?”

“Find out who switched your medicine first, and then I’ll tell you,” Hannah said, grabbing her bag and heading

out.
