Chapter 249 All-Too-Familiar Feeling Of Getting Played
Iris had been taking Hannah’s medicinal meals at Ms. Carter’s cnic for three days, and her complexion had already improved significantly. Her baby was now three months along, and the pregnancy was finally starting to feel more stable. “So, what was that video you mentioned the other day?” Iris asked, still pestering Hannah as she sipped her medicinal meal and made her way to the west wing to track her down.
Hannah was in the middle of going over the details Iris had shared earlier. Seeing Iris walk in, she closed her notebook with a snap and fired back with a question of her own.
“Any luck figuring out who messed with your medicine yet?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Not yet. Still looking into it,” Iris replied honestly.
She was dying to find out who did it, but her mom wouldn’t let her make a big deal out of it, so she had to keep things low- key and dig around quietly.
“Find out who did it, then come ask me about the video,” Hanna said, practically showing Iris the door.
Iris was annoyed, but she couldn’t do anything about it, so she just had to leave, sulking as she went.
As soon as Iris left, Hannah called Ethan to catch him up on everything she’d found. She decided that just waiting for the Thole family’s investigation wasn’t going to cut it, she needed to start digging into that recording herself.
She tried to repair the recording over and over, but it was still hopelessly corrupted. Hannah couldn’t help but think, ‘Would Shadow be able to fix this?’
But then she remembered how Shadow had grounded her for six months, locking her out of her account until mid-next month. With that, she sighed and shifted her focus to Vulcan instead.
Hannah had clashed with Vulcan a few times before, and as the Master of the Scepter House, he probably knew a few ways around this. The trouble was, she still couldn’t tell if he was an ally or an enemy.
Just then, her phone started ringing on the desk, snapping her out of her thoughts.
Van’s name lit up on the screen.
“Boss, Dustin just reached out to me. He said the Thole family has a chip development project and wants you to join in. He’ s set up a meeting for 3:30. You want to take it?” Van asked.
“You sure this isn’t some kind of trap?” Hannah asked, her voice laced with suspicion.
Her name was still on the most-wanted list in the hacker forum, so when Dustin tried to set up a meeting, she couldn’t help but feel something was off.
“I don’t think so. He got in touch through one of Oliver’s friends who passed the word to Oliver, and then Oliver told me. Apparently, the sales of Xenith Systems Group’s new Teichron CS are really cutting into the Thole family’s system sales,” Van explained.
“On top of that, Xenith Systems Group is gearing up to develop their own chips, and for their third anniversary, they’re throwing a massive event, inviting the top 100 hackers from around the world. It’s totally unprecedented.
“If even a few of those elite hackers sign on with Xenith, their chip project will take off like crazy. So yeah, the Thole family is probably freaking out and scrambling to snatch up talent before Xenith does,” Van added.
“Oh, and you’re on Xenith Systems Group’s invite list too. I got your invitation and was just about to ask if you wanted to go. “In the chat groups I hang out in, everyone’s saying Shadow and Vulcan will be there too, but things are a bit tricky for you right now…” Van said.
Hannah’s eyes lit up, and she cut him off before he could finish I’m in!”
She understood what Van was saying: she was still a wanted woman. But that wasn’t going to stop her. She could just lie low and stay under the radar; it wasn’t as if she had to show her face to anyone.
“What about Dustin? He set up a meeting for 3:30, and I haven’t replied yet,” Van asked.
Hannah pictured Dustin’s annoying face, a mischievous spark lighting up in her eyes. “Go for it. Send me the location, I want to watch the drama unfold.”
Van suddenly had a hunch, and it was that all-too-familiar feeling, just like when Gemma got hustled back in the day. After getting the address, Hannah freshened u Successfully unlocked!nsultation room to let Evelyn know she was
heading out.
Not long after she left, a car with Thole family plates pulled up outside the clinic.
The door swung open and Susie stepped out, dressed head to the in designer brands. Two maids in Thole family uniforms followed close behind, one carrying her purse, the other holding an umbrella over her head.

“Susie Scott, you’ve got the guts to show your face here? What do you want? Pretty sure you don’t have an appointment.” Joe, standing guard at the entrance, stepped right in front of Susie, blocking her way.
“Move it! I’m here for the old lady!” Susie shoved Joe aside and stormed straight into the clinic. When Joe tried to stop her, the two maids instantly blocked him, not letting him get past.
Susie found the consultation room, then suddenly remembered something. She turned around, chin held high, gave Joe a sharp look, and warned him.
“And for the record, my name is Susie Thole, not Susie Scott. Call me by the wrong name again, and watch your mouth, I might just have someone shut it for you!” she threatened.
“I don’t care what you call yourself. No appointment? Then get cut!” Joe snapped.
He pushed past the maids, grabbed Susie, and was just about to haul her out when the consultation room door swung open. Evelyn stepped out, her expression turning cold as soon as she saw Susie.
“Let her in,” Evelyn said.
Ever since that last run-in with Susie at the Thole family estate, Evelyn had been wanting to sit down and talk things out. But Susie had shut her out completely, blocking every way Evelyn could reach her.
Joe let go of Susie, clearly annoyed but with no other choice.
Evelyn sent the patient in the consultation room on their way, asked the nurse to let the next patient know they’d have to wait a bit, then headed back inside.
Susie glanced around the consultation room, dying of envy. Every piece of furniture was crafted from luxury red
sandalwood, and that acupuncture bed, using such premium wood for something like that? She thought, ‘What a waste of something so precious.’
“You took everything from the secret stash under my bed, didn’t you?” Evelyn said, shutting the door behind her.
“Yep, not gonna pretend otherwise,” Susie replied, totally unapologetic.
She grabbed those photos from the stash, went straight to Howard, and got him to do a paternity test. That’s how she managed to get herself back into the Thole family.
Evelyn’s eyes grew red with emotion. She demanded, “Where are they? Hand over those files and photos.”
Evelyn didn’t even ask for the jewelry, she figured Susie had pawned it off ages ago. But those files and photos weren’t worth a dime, so Susie probably hadn’t bothered to get rid of them.
“I’ll give them back, but only if you agree to one condition,” Susie said, admiring her freshly done diamond-studded nails.
Evelyn’s face darkened. “What condition?”
“You’re coming with me,” Susie said, not taking no for an answer
“Where exactly?” Evelyn asked, frowning in confusion.
“Leave Hannah behind. I’ll open a brand-new clinic for you in Kinswood, and you can also be the Thole family’s exclusive doctor,” Susie declared, not bothering to hide her arrogance.
Her scheme was to break up Hannah’s clinic, drag Evelyn over to her side, and show Hannah who was really in charge in Kinswood.
Howard had told her that Edmund wanted to bring Hannah back as the Thole family’s third daughter because he was after Hannah’s connections and power, and wanted to recruit the Nameless Healer for the Thole family.
If Susie could just trash Hannah’s reputation, Edmund would give up on bringing her back as the Thole family’s third daughter.
And with Evelyn, the Miracle Doctor, backing her up in the Thole family, Susie would finally have some real backing.
“No way!” Evelyn said, shaking her head, her voice unwavering.
‘I could never betray Hannah, Evelyn thought, her resolve firm.
“Why not? I’m your actual granddaughter! I’m literally all you’ve got left, and you’d rather help some outsider than your own family?
“Seriously, how can you look yourself in the mirror? Is this how you repay my mom?” Susie snapped, her voice sharp and full of accusation.
Susie pressed on, her tone biting, “You made her a miracle-working doctor, but I’m your own flesh and blood!
“You never taught me a thing about medicine, and now you’re still backing her up? If my mom were still alive, she’d never let you treat me like this!”
Susie had always known Evelyn was into traditional medicine, but she never realized she was actually the legendary Miracle Doctor, and that she’d even trained Hannah to become the Nameless Healer.

If she hadn’t been switched at birth, all those titles and reputation, the top scholar, the Nameless Healer, would’ve belonged to her.
The more Susie stewed over it, the more she felt like Hannah had stolen the life that was supposed to be hers.
