Chapter 266 Nothing Out Of Line
Chapter 266 Nothing Out Of Line
The next day, at two in the afternoon, Hannah woke up with her head throbbing from a killer hangover.
She sat up, taking in the unfamiliar room and noticing she was her, she’d ended up at Candy’s place last night.
different clothes now. After a few moments, it finally hit
She reached for her phone, still charging on the nightstand, and opened WhatsApp to check her messages. After scrolling through all the unread ones, she finally spotted a voice message from Barnaby, sent at three in the morning.
“Baby, I’ve got to go on a business trip at the last minute. I’m not sure when I’ll be back, could be a couple of days, maybe a week.
“Just take care of yourself while I’m gone. If you need anything, call me or Ronin. I’ll see you when I get back. I love you,” Barnaby said.
She could faintly hear the car engine in the background as Barnaby spoke in that deep, magnetic voice.
Hannah scoffed and tossed her phone aside with an expressionless look. ‘Like I’d be waiting for you to come back, she thought.
“Hannah, you’re up! Perfect timing, my takeout just arrived. Go brush your teeth and come eat,” Candy said, pushing the door open with a grin.
“Okay,” Hannah mumbled, dragging herself out of bed. She splashed some water on her face, brushed her teeth, and shuffled out to the living room, still feeling a bit groggy.
Candy had already laid out all the takeout on the dining table, and she’d even ordered a huge bowl of hangover soup just for Hannah.
“Did I do anything crazy last night?” Hannah asked as she pulled out a chair and sat down.
Candy sat across from her, looking like she was trying to decide whether to laugh or cry. Hannah’s stomach dropped, she had a bad feeling about this.
Hannah always blacked out when she drank, so she had no clue what she’d done last night.
“Well, it wasn’t exactly wild,” Candy said. “Barnaby called you last night, and you were clinging to your phone, accusing him of not loving you anymore. You even agreed to break up and insisted he couldn’t take back the gifts he gave you…”
Hannah took a deep breath, in disbelief. “I really said all that?”
Candy nodded and said, “You were this close to crying. Honestly, Barnaby looked so guilty after you went off on him, I think he didn’t even want to break up anymore.
“You little troublemaker, always playing hard to get. I thought you two were just trying out some new way to flirt, but you totally went off the rails…”
Hannah could just picture the whole scene, total social suicide. She was so embarrassed she wanted to disappear, burying her face in her hands.
‘Well, that explains why Barnaby sent me that voice message,’ Hannah thought, cringing even harder.
‘Damn alcohol. I swear I’m never drinking like that again!’ Hannah thought, vowing to herself.
‘Next time I drink, I’m blocking Barnaby first. No more embarrassing myself in front of him, she promised herself.
“Hannah, if it hurts that much, maybe you don’t have to break up Candy said softly. “Barnaby’s actually not a bad guy. If you still care about him, maybe give him a chance to prove he’s changed.”
Whatever Hannah decided, Candy had her back, ride or die, no questions asked.
But seeing Hannah so wrecked last night made Candy feel awful too. She could see Hannah really did care about Barnaby. but honestly, Barnaby had crossed the line, taking advantage of her trust and playing her for a fool.
Hannah sipped her hangover soup in silence, not saying a word
‘Do I still love Barnaby?’ she wondered to herself.
She couldn’t bring herself to say she didn’t.
But as she replayed everything that had happened since they get back together, Spencer’s warning echoed in her mind,” How do you know Barnaby won’t lie to you?”
Suddenly, she wasn’t sure if she could trust Be Successfully unlocked!ed to wonder if their whole reunion had been
his plan from the very beginning.
Barnaby knew exactly why she’d come back and all the anger she was carrying, but he’d slowly lured her into his gentle trap, making her lose herself and let her guard down.
It was like her feelings were a program he’d written, every step carefully calculated, he had her wrapped around his finger

and she didn’t even realize it.
Thinking about it, Hannah suddenly felt Barnaby was scary as hell. She realized she’d totally fallen for his sweet act and didn’t know the real him at all.
Seeing Hannah stay quiet, Candy waved her hand. “Forget about guys. Once we finish eating, let’s go shopping! Today, you can buy whatever you want, I’m treating you!”
After they finished eating, Hannah picked out a plain white casual outfit from Candy’s super girly closet. Luckily, they were about the same size, so it fit her just right.
Before heading out, Hannah was about to call Joe to ask him to feed Hedy, but her phone rang first, it was Joe calling her. “Hannah, bad news. Your grandma is making a scene at the clinic,” Joe said, his voice tight with worry.
Hannah frowned. “Grandma?”
“Yeah, they’re claiming to be your actual grandma and uncle. They showed up at the clinic, started causing trouble for Evelyn, and now they just won’t leave,” Joe said.
“Keep an eye on Evelyn for me. I’m heading back now,” Hannah said, hanging up. She turned to Candy and said, “Looks like we’re not going shopping after all, I need to get back to the clinic.”
*****
At the Ms. Carter’s clinic, an old woman with half-gray hair and plain country clothes was dragging a man in his forties, shouting to everyone passing by, “Hey, everyone, come and see for yourselves! I’m Hannah Carter’s real grandma, and this is her real uncle.
“Hannah owns this clinic, but that old witch inside is pretending to be my granddaughter’s grandma, stealing my spot, and now they’re blocking us so we can’t even see my granddaughter”
She was a half-gray-haired, plainly dressed rural woman, dragging a man in his forties along as she hollered for people to come watch the drama.
The man was dressed a lot neater than the woman, and honestly, he looked a lot like Felicity, same sharp features, slicked- back hair, a suit, a huge fake LV belt, and an LV bag tucked under his arm.
Anyone with half an eye could tell it was all cheap knockoffs.
They were Felicity’s mother Bertha Malone and brother Razor Malone.
With the crowd outside getting bigger and even some reporters showing up, Carolyn the nurse tried to keep things from blowing up.
She politely asked Bertha and Razor to come inside and talk things out, but the two were stubborn as mules, determined to cause trouble and just camped out at the entrance, refusing to move.
“Don’t take us for fools! You want us to step inside, then lock the door and let your dogs loose on us? If something happens, who’s gonna help us? Just get that old witch out here and let her talk to everyone!” Razor said.
“That’s right!” Bertha jumped in. “If she’s got something to say, let her come out and say it in front of everyone. Let’s see who’s really stealing my spot and cheating my granddaughter out of her money!”
“And don’t you dare let her treat you! She’s a total fraud, a quack she’s got blood on her hands!” Bertha yelled. Razor jumped in, “Yeah, Mrs. Todd from Kinswood, she died because of her! Everyone knows about that, right?”
Bertha added, “And she killed a bunch of newborns in our village too! Just a few days old, and gone because of her… Bertha and Razor kept piling on, making her look even worse with every word. Reporters swarmed in like vultures, snapping pics and firing up livestreams on the spot.
Inside the clinic, Evelyn couldn’t take it anymore. Ignoring Joe’s attempts to stop her, she stepped out.
“You keep saying you’re Anna’s real grandma and uncle. Got any proof?” Evelyn shot back, her voice sharp.
Seeing Evelyn finally come out, Bertha planted her hands on her hips.
She said, “We’re Hannah’s real family, her actual blood relatives! So tell me, did you mix up my granddaughter on purpose
back then? And now, are you trying to use her to help your daughter get back at the Thole family?”
Evelyn was stunned, frozen in place.
