Chapter 271 Best Way To Move On
Chapter 271 Best Way To Move On
At the Thole Group headquarters, in Howard’s office, his secretary, Marilyn, walked in.
“Boss, the Scott family has booked a private room at Imperial Hotel for 7 PM tonight. Hannah will be there Marlyn reported the latest update to him.
Howard glanced at the clock and stood up abruptly. “Get the car ready. We’re going to the Imperial Hotel
“Dad, do we really have to work with her? Dustin protested, still reluctant
Earlier, Edmund had made the call to stick with Raven.
Just the thought that Hannah was Raven, and maybe even Vulcan, made Dustin’s face heat up with shame.
“Got someone better in mind?” Howard gave him a look, tossing the question right back.
Dustin clammed up instantly. He never imagined Xenith Systems Group would go this hard, snagging deals with 90% of the world’s top 100 hackers.
The last 10%? Either absolute legends like Vulcan, Shadow, and Paven that nobody could touch, or total rejects like Kasin Nelson, whose reputation was just too sketchy for anyone to bother.
Howard grabbed his stuff and set off for the Imperial Hotel.
Honestly, Howard didn’t want to work with Hannah either, he’d already voiced his opinion in the meeting.
But Edmund wouldn’t budge, and after the Scott family’s latest screw-up, Edmund was still pissed. As the CEO, Howard couldn’t push back anymore, so he just had to stick to the plan for now.
At 7 PM, they arrived at the Imperial Hotel.
Joe parked the car. Hannah got out, then helped Evelyn out. Dorian had already arrived and was waiting at the entrance for them to go in together.
Hannah looked around, realizing she hadn’t seen Chloe all afternoon. “Where did she go? she wondered, then turned to Evelyn and asked, “Where’s Chloe?”
“Chloe took the day off. She said she was meeting up with a friend, Evelyn explained.
Hannah nodded, not really giving it much thought, but Evelyn herself found it a little strange.
‘When did Chloe start making new friends? Evelyn wondered.
Ever since they’d moved to the city, Evelyn had been living with Chloe and Joe, they were practically joined at the hip.
Their routine was just back and forth between the clinic and home, maybe a walk in the park on their days off. Chice had never mentioned any new friends before.
But since Hannah didn’t seem to care, Evelyn just let it go.
They headed into the hotel, and Dorian gave the waiter their reservation. The waiter led them up to the third floor.
As soon as they stepped out of the elevator, Hannah saw Howard walking right toward them.
Dorian’s eyes lit up. He knew the odds of running into a Thole at the Imperial Hotel were high, but running into Howard himself? That was next level.
Access to Howard was not granted casually.
And now, he was actually walking right toward them.
Dorian was thrilled. He quickly straightened his suit, stepped up and flashed a flattering smile as he reached out his hand Howard, it’s an honor to finally meet you.”
But Howard didn’t even look his way. His secretary, Marilyn, glanced at Dorian like he was invisible, not bothering to hide her contempt. “Excuse me, move.”
The way they looked down on him made Dorian’s hand freeze in midair before he awkwardly pulled it back
Right now, the Scott family barely even registered in the eyes of these big players
“Ms. Carter, mind if we talk for a minute?” Howard stepped right up to Hannah, sounding polite enough.
Hannah gave them a chilly glance. “I don’t have time for this”
Dorian’s heart nearly jumped out of his chest. He knew his daughter never played by the rules, but he never expected her to have the guts to blow off the CEO of the Thole Group right to his face!
Arthur just looked at Hannah with pure admiration. Compared to Sis, Dad was totally lame just now he thought
“About that partnership Dustin brought up last time, I want to discuss it with you again,’ Howard said, blocking her way and refusing to step aside.

Hannah told her family to go on ahead to the private room. Seeing this, Howard thought he had a shot. “This way, please.”
But Hannah just replied coolly, “If you want to talk, schedule it with my assistant.”
Marilyn was floored. She’d never heard anyone talk to Howard like that before, usually, she was the one shutting people down, not the other way around.
Howard’s brows twitched in annoyance, but he kept that smile plastered on his face, his tone leaving no room for argument “Alright, Sunday at 2 PM, at the Thole Manor.
“I’m sure there’s a lot you want to know about Rosalie, isn’t there?”
Hannah stopped in her tracks, her eyes icy as she stared him down.
Howard was clearly pleased with her reaction, a sly grin spreading across his face. “See you then. Oh, and room 312 gets a free meal tonight.”
He tossed the last part over his shoulder to Marilyn.
“No thanks. I don’t accept favors I haven’t earned,” Hannah replied coldly, brushing past him with an unreadable face as she slipped into the private room.
“You okay?” Arthur asked quietly as she walked in.
Hannah shook her head. The Thole family’s mess was her own business, she didn’t want her family dragged into it.
“Everyone here? Dig in, order whatever you want, tonight’s on me Christopher called out as he strolled in last.
On his way over, he’d actually swapped out his usual look for a legit suit, ditched his ear and lip piercings, and awkwardly forced himself into the whole ‘meet-the-parents’ good boy vibe.
He squeezed into the seat next to Hannah, leaned over, and whispered,” So, how do I look tonight?”
Hannah, still distracted by what Howard had said earlier, just replied absentmindedly, “Good enough.”
Christopher grumbled, “Can’t you at least check me out before you say anything?”
Hannah glanced at him sideways. “You look decent enough.”
Christopher was speechless.
The dinner was full of laughter and chatter. Arthur got his assistant to book a hotel close to the clinic. After dropping her family off at the hotel, Hannah took Evelyn back to her place.
In the end, Christopher refused to take no for an answer and insisted on driving her back to the clinic.
When they pulled up to the clinic, Hannah reached for the door handle, but it wouldn’t open. She glanced over at Christopher, confused.
But Christopher suddenly got all serious and declared, “The best way to get over an old flame is to dive right into a new one.”
‘Huh?’ Hannah blinked at him.
Christopher waited for her reaction, but when she just stared at him, looking totally lost, he turned back, a little thrown off.
‘Did she seriously not get it?’ Christopher wondered.
“You seem pretty down tonight. Since you and Barnaby are over, why not give me a shot? I’ll help you get over him in no time, Christopher said, trying to sound smooth.
“You’re not my type,” Hannah cut him off, not giving him a chance to say anything else. “If you still want to be friends, quit with that. Now, unlock the door.”
Christopher was about to keep pestering her, but when Hannah hit him with another icy glare, his heart did a nervous flip and he hurried to unlock the door.
‘Why was I so lame just now?’ Christopher thought to himself as he watched her walk away.
Hannah went back to her room in the west wing, took care of Hedy’s food and water, then finally, after dragging her feet, pushed open her bedroom door.
It was the first time she’d stepped inside all day.
The room looked the same as always, but when she opened the closet, only her clothes were left hanging there. She felt a hollow ache inside.
She stepped out of the shower, towel wrapped around her, ready to change, only to realize her favorite black silk nightgown was missing.
Instead, she found a set of men’s black silk pajamas hidden under her pillow, still lingering with Barnaby’s faint tobacco scent. These were the matching couple’s pajamas he’d bought for them.
‘I need something of yours for when I miss you! Barnaby’s word echoed in her mind. Just picturing Barnaby clutching her nightgown… Hannah’s ears burned. She grabbed her phone and shot Barnaby a message.
