The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 291

Chapter 291 No More Breakups

Chapter 291 No More Breakups

The next day, Hannah woke up naturally.

She opened her eyes and realized she was lying on Barnaby’s right arm. Apparently, he’d been up for a while already, texting Ronin back on his phone with his left hand.

Feeling her stir in his arms, Barnaby turned and kissed her forehead. “Morning, baby. You’re up.”

“Why are you still here?” Hannah asked, a little surprised to see im.

Barnaby always seemed to have endless energy. No matter how late he went to bed, he was always up bright and early. Hannah, though, loved to sleep in.

If Barnaby didn’t wake her up, she’d just keep snoozing until she felt like getting up, and by then, the spot next to her would already be cold.

“Already trying to kick me out after last night? Did you forget what you promised me, huh?” Barnaby raised an eyebrow, taking in her adorably sleepy face. Unable to resist, he pulled her closer and planted soft kisses on her cheek and neck.

Hannah was lost for words.

His kisses made her squirm, and honestly, she had no idea how ate they’d gone at it last night. She’d been so exhausted she finally managed to fall asleep, only to be woken up again and again.

She’d lost count of how many times she’d been woken up, and now she was honestly a little scared he’d start again. Terrified he might get frisky again, she quickly pushed him away and sat up. Realizing she was completely naked, she yanked the blanket up to cover her chest, and with her other hand, grabbed her pajamas from the bedside and hurriedly slipped them on.

“I meant, don’t you have to go to work today?” she asked.

“I’m taking the day off. Not going in,” Barnaby said, stretching his arm that had gone numb from her head resting on it. Seeing her about to get out of bed, he quickly wrapped his arms around her waist. “How about we stay in bed a little longer?”

Hannah clicked her tongue and shot a look at his phone, which was lying off to the side. The chat screen was flooded with messages from Ronin, and Barnaby had only typed half a reply. Ronin’s typing indicator was still blinking, he was clearly busy dealing with it all.

Barnaby caught her glance and said, “I’m afraid if I leave, you won’t let me come back.”

He’d gone through a lot just to finally spend the night here.

Hannah was at a loss for words.

“So you’re just gonna play hooky like some emperor who’s too busy with his queen to show up for work?” she teased.

“I set up an office in the east wing. I told Ronin to come by later so he wouldn’t disturb your beauty sleep,” Barnaby said.

Hannah gave him a surprised look. ‘No wonder he kept sneaking in late at night and holing up in the east wing, up to who knows what, she thought.

Barnaby let go of her, got out of bed, and slipped on his clothes “Want to go take a look?”

Hannah tried to get up, but her legs were so weak she just sat at the edge of the bed. Barnaby bent down, scooped her up in his arms, and carried her out. Seeing she didn’t resist and even wrapped her arms around his neck, he pressed his luck and asked, “Baby, how about I move back in?”

“What if I say no?” Hannah teased, tilting her head, watching his face for a reaction.

Barnaby turned and kissed her cheek, but Hannah turned her head and kissed him on the lips instead.

They were all lovey-dovey at the entrance of the west wing’s mah hall when Hannah caught a glimpse of someone in the courtyard out of the corner of her eye. She quickly pushed Barn by away, hurriedly got to her feet, and turned to see who it

was.

“Chloe, what’s up?” Hannah called out.

Barnaby’s face turned cold, clearly annoyed at being interrupted

“Didn’t you two break up? Then what’s this?” Chloe said, sounding a little jealous.

Seeing them all lovey dovey, Chloe felt a stab of enw Fenerial when cha saw Hannah in her pajamas, with several red marks on her neck. Even though she’d never b Successfully unlocked! ctly what those were, and it made her feel all

kinds of bitter inside.

Chloe hadn’t seen Barnaby around the courtyard for a while. Last week, Joe told her Hannah and Barnaby had split, and she’ d been secretly over the moon for a few days.

The last time she went to the west wing to find Hannah, she’d even noticed Barnaby’s stuff seemed to be gone. Part of her

was bummed, but honestly, she was pretty excited too.

She was sad because now that they’d broken up, Barnaby wouldn’t be coming around anymore, and it’d be even harder for her to see him. But hey, now that they’d split, maybe she actually had a shot.

Yeah, she still couldn’t let go of Barnaby. She’d even gone so far as to cozy up to the Reese family, just for him, even though it went against everything she believed in.

“Who said that?” Barnaby’s eyes went icy as he shot Chloe a look that could freeze water,

“I…” Chloe shivered, her jealousy flaring up even more. ‘Why does Barnaby treat Hannah like she’s his whole world, but act so cold to me?’ she grumbled to herself.

‘If Hannah wasn’t here, would Barnaby finally pay attention to me?’ Chloe couldn’t help but wonder.

Hannah noticed something off in Chloe’s face. Remembering Cloe’s little crush on Barnaby, her eyes narrowed, turning frosty. “Go mind your own business.”

Chloe came back to herself and mumbled, “Okay.”

Barnaby ignored her and took Hannah’s hand, leading her into the east wing.

There was a makeshift office, about fifteen square meters, sectioned off against the wall with the periodic table poster. Inside was a desk and a small sofa, with an air conditioner blanket still thrown over it, not even folded up.

Hannah glanced at the sofa, noticing it wasn’t even as long as Barnaby was tall, and frowned. “Did you really sleep here before?”

“Sometimes when I worked late, I’d just crash here for a bit,” Barnaby explained.

Hannah suddenly felt a little bad for him. “Did you really have to go that far for me?”

“I just wanted to stay close to you. If I don’t, you might get snatched up by someone else before I even notice,” Barnaby teased.

Barnaby hugged her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder and breathing in her soft scent. With her there, even the air felt sweeter.

“You’re such a smooth talker,” Hannah said, reaching up and giving his cheek a gentle, teasing pat.

“I only get like this with you,” Barnaby replied, taking her hand and threading his fingers through hers, holding on tight.

“Oh, by the way, did you ever find out anything about those photos I asked you to check out?” Hannah asked, the memory suddenly popping into her mind.

Barnaby’s eyes flickered with hesitation before he answered, “Still nothing.”

Hannah frowned. “Is it really that tough?”

“Yeah,” Barnaby replied, then switched gears. “Baby, why don’t I back your new chip idea?”

“How would that work?” Hannah asked.

“Just forget about Howard, join Xenith Systems Group, or strike put on your own, whatever you want. If you’re set on making chips, I’ll bankroll the whole thing,” Barnaby said.

“No way! I’m not spending your money,” Hannah shot back.

She didn’t join the Thole family just to work on chips. Her real plan was to hack into their network from the inside.

Barnaby frowned. “If you’re not gonna use my money, then whose are you planning to spend?”

“I’ll spend my own,” Hannah replied.

“But I want us to start our own company, as a couple,” Barnaby said. He knew Hannah had billions, enough to last a lifetime, but when it came to developing a new chip, that kind of money was nowhere near enough.

Hannah raised an eyebrow. “Who said I was gonna marry you?”

“If you’re not marrying me, then who else would you marry?” Baaby moved right in front of her, gripping her shoulders.” Just so you know, I’m done with these breakup games. If you even think about dumping me again, I’ll lock you up and keep you in bed forever.”

Breaking up once was more than enough for me.

Hannah was momentarily stunned, her heart skipped a beat. “Tak, threatening your own landlord now?”

Barnaby didn’t even flinch. “As long as we don’t break up, you’re the landlord, the boss, my goddess-whatever you say goes.”

Hannah laughed, her chest feeling warm and full. “Smooth talk Now go make me some steak. I’m starving.”

“Anything you say, my goddess,” Barnaby replied with a grin.
